Moira Brown sits down with Billy Graham's daughter Anne Graham Lotz to talk about her book 'Wounded by God's People' which discusses the unfortunate circumstance when people are hurt by the church and how to move forward from this.
Being banned from small groups and fellowship groups by church leaders for having challenges--my son with autism (smart but socially challenged) and me (when I was having mental health crisis)--is incredibly hurtful. We returned 8 years later to find a community ready to welcome, accommodate and support us. God's doing!
I am among the exiled. I no longer trust any church. I listen to the radio and to the TV programs and read my Bible but I don't think the pain will ever go away of being exiled.
Sweetheart if you only knew the trouble I have seen with "church people." It became so depressing until the Lord consoled me in asking if I ever thought that it was not my problem but theirs. That brought me to my knees and closer even to Christ.
Misunderstood and alerted by God that they ( ie leaders) are ready to ' throw' us out ( like Joseph by his brothers), God asked if I would " pay a ransom for many" and I did. God then protected, provided, showed HIS Presence and HIS Promise- Keeper's Faithfulness. Went through depression but through flooding my soul with apraise and Worship and His Word, I'm past depression, healed and thriving... but not in any physical Christian group..yet. God is as real as the air I breathe and cannot see. HIS goodness is everlasting. I trust in the Lord with all my heart and I lean not unto my own understanding❤
I've been wounded by 3 churches that spread lies about me just because I felt Gods prompting to leave. I was very faithful to those ministries and didn't want to leave but I know without a doubt what God said to me and why he was telling me to leave. They didn't understand but I thank God I have always been led by Gods spirit. The pastors who did say negative things have asked to apologize but I've forgave them already in my heart. Now at this new church im in I have absolute no desire to be apart of leadership. Or serve but now I enjoy just sitting on Sundays. It's safer for me. Gods people can be the most cruelest when they don't understand Gods holy spirit in the lives of people.
Ann has great understanding of the battle's we all face in life with churches and in daily living. But God is our refuge and our sheild thanks Ann.your a Great encouragement God bless you.
Watching this story makes me feel better about my self, cause I thought I was the only one who had been hurt by the pastoral family and asking my self why and what should I do? And here is the daugther of Billy Graham, the giant of faith, like who doesnt know "Billy Graham" but they too went throu the same problems. Wow. Makes me feel that there is hope. And the I'm going the right path, that this is normal.

I had been wounded by someone I thought was a friend and have been feeling sorry for myself without realizing that I had wounded them as well. Yes! Their is a protection that I feel when I'm a member of a church. Also, having a church pray for me is overwhelmingly different than my individual prayers. Still, I have a very difficult time in church too! I was impressed by Hagar's story. She saw God as the " One that sees" because He came to her when she was broken and had a son! Love what she said about " We believe our own PR"!
through ignorance of what God's love is this is done in the church-i have done this and received this.I have learned to press in to experience God's love for myself and to give to others.If you understand how far you have been from this unconditional love you can have mercy on others
Thank you for your testimony, Anne. Being vulnerable enough to bless others by admitting your own faults. The cross reconciles us vertically to God and horizontally with others.
I wonder what God thinks, knowing that people spend more time and money reading "books" than spending time reading and studying His Book. I previously bought "encouraging/motivational" books written by christians but came to the realisation that everything i need to know is in my Bible. Every aspect of how to live our limited time here on earth is found in one book. The Bible.
I think for some people, especially those new to the bible, it can be confusing or overwhelming. Books based upon solid scripture encourage people to seek out the Lord and His Word. They are not a bad thing, but of course there is no substitute-that is not their purpose. Hopefully people who read these books, eventually begin to look up the scriptures for themselves and thus begin a life of bible study.
+Beth Deer -- Self righteousness isn't pretty. NO ONE spends 24/7/365 reading the Bible ONLY and God DOES expect us to LIVE life.. NO ONE said to spend MORE time reading other books..NO ONE....That's YOUR nonsense! God said that we are to be in this world and not of it...Has NOTHING to do with reading books (or anything else we do that is NOT sinful). There is NOTHING wrong with reading a SOLID Christian's books. Joel Osteen's on the other hand........ no more than blasphemies. "The power of I AM" and he DOESN'T mean GOD - blasphemy!

Beth Deer Amen, sister! I have shelves of “self help” books I’ve collected over the years but they’re nonsense compared to the transforming truth of the Bible.
The Church/Body of Christ is made up of sinners saved by Christ. We are a family, and what do families do? They squabble and make up. They fight...and make up, they say cruel things to each other......and make up. That's what we in the Church need to do, learn to make up. Learn to allow others to know us as God knows us. To admit our faults and failings to each other...and make up; be reconciled and through that process love one another more deeply..
Beth Jones That is not true. Gods people make up the very fiber of the church. It is where the lost come when they are seeking God. If true believers are not there...they are being surrounded by wolves. Fight the GOOD fight! Finish the race! What do you think that means? It does not mean change the track you are on. It means stay steady...persevere THROUGH THE HARD TIMES. This call for leaving the church is unbiblical. Nowhere in Gods word does it EVER SAY to turn away from the church/Gods people! In fact...just the opposite. The example Christ set was to RUN THE ENEMY OUT OF HIS HOUSE! Like he did with the money changers in the temple. Repent if you have been spreading the lie that God is calling us out of HIS HOUSE because the lost have come in.
I think what Brenda is referring to is the fact that God would not call someone out of the body of Christ. I don’t know where that’s found in Scripture actually.
💛God wants us to stop playing "church" but Jesus is the head or Lord of the "church". We are His bride! God will not allow anyone to be abandoned which is why He put us in a group called "the church". God bless you, we need each other. I pray for your healing, please pray for mine.💛
Jesus told us IN THE BIBLE that offences would come EVEN in OUR OWN HOUSEHOLD!! So not to be in AWE! Now, how many people fell for the OKEYDOKE and bought the book? It's okay been there. I was hurt when I was 12 years old mode add a youth camp. But I handled it in a wrong way when I was around 20 years old dude I don't remember what my age was age was I turned my back on God went to the mormon church. Then I realized that was a mistake Joseph Smith Joseph it's in the grave it's in the grave and God is alive today I've today and I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal saver when when I was in my sixties. Took all those years for me to forgive when I when I found out about it . And I didn't know about it until I was in my twenties . And I told that person I didn't do what they said I did.
When you have gone through the rejection of "church terrorists", you can identify. David Wilkerson find this and it transformed N Y. She is the spitting image of her Dad. I appreciated her statements st the funeral. I hope she does carry forth preaching the Gospel.

Well....bitterness DOES hurt others when we hold on to it. It hurts EVERYONE around us. Its very self centered to think our actions ONLY have power over us. What we do wether it be good or bad impacts generations after us. Christians need to WAKE UP.
I enjoyed this interview with Anne Graham about her new book but am troubled that her father is a 33rd degree Mason per recent articles I've read and different christian people I've spoken with- As SUCH would be in Direct Conflict with the King James Bible, Christianity- The Teachings of Christ in Every Sense!
Yes Michael - praise God for the Spirit of Discernment. Anne it seems is no better than her famous father. Why use HAGAR as a "loving example" of WOUNDS at the hand of God's people rather THAN God's people such as the HOLY prophets, the apostles and Jesus Christ Himself? Seems Anne is promoting the One World Church, truth be known.
Anne I just go to church and worship God I keep my focus on God I'm friendly to the people that are friendly with me and the people that are arrogant for whatever reason I just I don't pay attention to it I'm Southern Baptist but I was divorced years ago and to some married women being divorced they feel threatened you know by a single woman or a divorced woman and I just go to church and come home I'll be honest I do not get in in little clicks I just don't because that's when you get hurt I just worship God read my Bible and. go home. I invite people to church and I try to be sensitive to ways in the community God wants me to help and encourage someone I've always been a person that witnesses to the Lost and the rest I just don't worry about
The other wound I had Took a long time for me to forget my mom mom she's a Christian She was sent very nasty letters hateful to my grandparents she was Is jealous Of my grandma Stealing Pictures of my dad When he was a boy from my grandma . It was just a big mess The way my mom treated my grandparents and they were wonderful grandparents . My mom was the only one that had a problem with my grandparents everyone love them. I've forgiven her now she's in nursing home with dementia dementia I try to call her every week I can't visit her she's 7 How hours away. She has hurt the whole family she has hurt my brother over this . She has hurt my cousins Over this Intercourse she has hurt my grandparents. It was hard to forgive her but I did I'm 66 And October. She's very old now She is 88 years old and she's in a nursing home with dementia. And I can't talk to her for very long because of her dementia Conversations are very short because of the dementia. I cannot even talk to her about the Lord because of her demand. I would like to send a Is pastor over there
Did I get this right? Anne is claiming here that HAGAR (the mother of Muslims) is loved and blessed by God and the fact that she was sent away ("wounded by God's people") only meant for "her good" and so she could "embrace" what God had for her in the future...? In ALL of Scripture, Anne picks HAGAR as the example? What about the HOLY prophets who were wounded by God's people, the Lord Jesus Himself? I am left to wonder, is this woman PROMOTING Islam and the One World Church ? wow!

Yes I did Judy. Do you know anything about the New World Order and the Ecumenical Movement? Isn't Anne's MAIN message, trying to "get people back to Church" ie: denominations? Just like her father, Billy Graham? Truth be known we are ALWAYS in Jesus Christ's Church whether or not we are in a "denomination" The MAIN message in this day and age therefore is "Babylon the Great is fallen! Is fallen! Come out of her My people!" Just as a side note: God said, "They treat my people's wounds as though they were only scratches" "Jesus marvelled at their lack of compassion" It was actually Sarah who told Abraham to throw Hagar out, "not God told Abraham to throw Hagar out."

and you should understand love and forgiveness is not a warm fussy concept designed to let people off the hook so they don't have to take any responsbility for their evil deeds and make a change. it certianly is not about allowing them to keep on running over people over and over again. allow evildoers to continue to destroy people is NOT LOVE!
well unfortunately we do not live in an ideal world, it is not possible to stop or even limit interactions with people. as far as forgiveness goes, i have heard your kind of prep talk before, the problem is people who talk like this never walk the walk. and they wonder why nobody is listening to them.
