Thank you for explaining non-wovens so well, never heard a high-level overview before and the context will help me organize my fabric stash SO much more effectively!

Hi Kelly! Great job explaining all these terms. I look forward to the next one on wovens! Two questions: 1-what makes a stable knit, stable? 2- You showed a plaid, sheer knit, but the closeup - I swear this looks woven! Is it really a knit? Especially, too, since actual plaid (not a printed plaid) knits are fairly uncommon. Can you tell me more about this piece of fabric?

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much! To answer your questions, 1) I will admit, I don't have a clear answer for this one. As far as I know, stable knits will have little or no stretch due to a number of factors - knit pattern, how tightly it's knitted, fiber content, etc. and I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this question either. But, I am going to keep searching and will make a dedicated short video about this if I can determine anything more conclusive. And, 2) if you're talking about the fabric shown around the 4:51 mark, it is a knit! It really does look like a woven from a distance, but if you look close at the structure of the fabric, you can see the little loops that make up the knit pattern. I don't have a ton of details on the origin of the fabric, as it was a donation a few years ago that I purchased from the shop, but it is a really cool fabric! If I remember correctly, burn testing indicated that it is 100% cotton. Thanks so much for watching! Kelly

Thank you for this information! I am wondering, is the fabric for the shirt you are wearing in this video an open knit, or a weave? I was also noticing the baskets in the back illustrating that over/under woven structure 😂.

The cardigan I'm wearing is a knit! If you look close, you can see that the yarns are fairly thick and there's a V shape to the pattern. Those factors together indicate that the garment was knitted with a standard knit stitch! Thanks for watching! ❤
