Great reveal dude! I find that SGC takes “eye appeal” into account more than picking apart every tiny flaw. And in my experience, they are more consistent with this. PSA will be all over the map, but the once you figure out SGC, they are pretty consistent in my experience.
I will make the unpopular comment . SGC overgrades modern and ultra modern by at least a grade and i know in previous videos you stated 1 to 1.5 higher grades. This video sure proved it. With the flaws you stated on the cards and what you said most should get as a grade also proves it. So PSA grades accurate with these flaws (people complain they are harsh) and SGC overlooks flaws and overgrades giving better grades (people look the other way and say "ill take it"). This for sure doesnt help grading and the hobby. Ive noticed the over grading on vintage as well. Ive been seeing too many videos like this with too many obvious overgrades coming from SGC lately. This is exactly why PSA still carries a premium for like grades. Like I said this will be an unpopular comment from me but one of your last statements even backs me up that you "had a feeling they'd be SGC over grades." As always I enjoyed the content.
Definitely why PSA still carries a premium. I’m not trying to knock SGC by making these videos…I’m simply just stating my observations 👍 SGC does grade modern-ultramodern easier than PSA. Especially on the cards with great eye appeal but harder to see flaws. I appreciate SGC’s consistency but I’d try to fall somewhere in-between how they grade now and PSA strict 👍 That’s kinda what I mentioned at the end of the video. I did say, I had a feeling SGC would overgrade, but I also said that PSA undergraded. I believe the true grade for most of these cards were perfectly in between how each company graded them. Thanks for the comment and watching 🙌
PSA seems to hate stickers, I’ve only used CGC on stickers. I have never used SGC for anything but vintage cards, I think they do a better job with the manufacturing issues of those cards…I think I may send some modern cards n try em out! Love the content! Keep crushing it ! Thanks for sharing 🤘🤘
This makes me want to submit to SGC. People can complain all they want. When you submit PC Cards you want a high grade. If SGC is going to give the higher grade that’s where I’m going. Simple as that!
Some of those big bumps ups made me literally LOL. It's crazy how lenient SGC is on back surface. Glad you get great grades but dang can't trust a SGC 10 on eBay to buy to crack and cross over to PSA.
That was impressive! Very strategic and well thought out on a lot of those. Glad to see it working for you. Love the Freeman auto! Good stuff as always.
Great video! Just crazy how many grades some of your cards jumped from PSA to SGC. I haven’t submitted with anyone else but PSA. Now I’m wondering the cards I did not send in to PSA cause they would probably get a 9 or 8 should I send in to SGC in hopes of getting a 10 or 9.5 🤔 Thanks for sharing
For as much as people like to talk sh$t about SGC, i still really like them and have used them alot. I use PSA and SGC mainly, but certain cards look so good in SGC slabs. I particularly like auto greded cards by SGC. Seeing a 10 10 or 10 9.5 at the top just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside 😂. Its well known that PSA is more strict on surface while SGC is more strict on centering. Plus SGC takes into account eye appeal more than any other major company.
I agree with ya! 🙌 I love the look of their auto grades, and their overall framed slab 🔥 I’m a huge fan of PSA and SGC. I think this vid was just meant to highlight the differences and observations between the two👌
Man we just had our first big order back from PSA. 13/46 gems 😮 Ouch! We just graded 2023 Prizm football to start so they were fresh cards. Kind of disheartening to get a PSA 5 on a card less than 3 months old.
Dang, really sorry to hear that! Sounds like you got a tight grader. Wish I could have seen your cards before submitting to help 👍 It does get better though…trust me :)
how does SGC give a card with 4 touched back corners a 9? That isn't "one" overall issue...it is 4 issues....assuming there is at least 1 other minor issue with the card, to give the Howie Long an 9 is a joke imo -- update -- what a joke most of this order was...SGC is overlooking issues and they are clear issues...if this is how they are grading, good luck buying SGC cards and crossing them...
I’d say SGC needs to tighten up a bit, but I have no problem accepting and selling what they give me. SGC and PSA are the two most reputable grading companies in the industry 👍
I also have to say -- I am uncomfortable when I get a card that is overgraded...I feel guilty passing along an overgraded card to someone who pays for the grade/card. Even if I keep a card in my collection, I can't help but notice a small dinged corner that is in a 10 holder, no matter what company gave the grade. Some of the cards in this order I wouldn't even submit with the issues that they have. I pretty much only submit cards to PSA that I think are a 9 at worst, unless they have a lot of value in an 8 or 7 holder.
Always fun to see crossovers LV! nice work. I agree with crossovers usually coming back not great. Most of my bgs 9.5’s seem to 9 and sgc 9.5 is borderline since PSA is a little more lenient on centering it can sometimes go 10.
Thanks 🤙 Yeah, I really wish we could see the cards surface a little better through slabs 😅 Makes crossing over tough if you weren’t the original submitter. Hope you’ve been well!
Oh you’re definitely right. I knew it was going to be a losing endeavor, but sometimes self-preservation and getting the card in the right grade is more important than money 😅
So the two grade revealers on youtube I trust most to get it right are you and eliteco3...it seems like from time to time you both will get those PSA returns where you are like "no, that is not right, it should be a 9 (or 8 or whatever)" so you send them to SGC and you get the grade you thought it should have gotten (or closer to your prediction). This is exactly why I believe SGC is the more accurate grader. They also focus on eye appeal more so those dimpled (especially on the back) are never going to get knocked as hard by SGC. Quick question for you...have you ever submitted oversized cards to either PSA or SGC? Like 3 x 5 box topper sized?
@@matthewgreeley3099 but he said they were closer to his projected grades. when someone says "I think this card is a 9 and PSA gave it a 6" then SGC gives it a 9.5 or a 10 I am gonna go out on a limb and say SGC was closer to projections. Sure, it was a half grade over but that is quite a bit closer than 3 grades under lol
That’s high praise…thank you for saying that. Eliteco3 was why I wanted to start making content, making reveals 👌I wish he put out more content like the old days, I loved his stuff. And you’re exactly right about SGC and focusing more on eye appeal. I respect that on their part…my mind is just so used to PSA knocking any little flaw 🤪
Hey buddy, quick question for you on COMC how do you filter to see if a card is mint or not I see the raw option versus X/mint and I’m not sure about the difference in price
I don’t think there is a way to filter mint cards. They just have a ex-mt designation, and lower designations. But everything else not labeled is considered near mint to mint 👍 I may be wrong though 🤪
SGC grades accurately but they also will bump if the card just looks good. They look passed the manufacturer dings and dents under light if the card is mint in every other way. I like that. More human.
I like your comment, ‘more human’ 👍 That is refreshing. My mind is just so programmed to PSA standards it’s sometimes hard to grasp the idea of omitting a flaw and grade by overall eye appeal 😅 I do appreciate SGC’s consistency to this
Once TAG perfects their process and truly embraces who they are as a company…I’ll definitely give them a shot and make TAG reveals. I love their concept, they just need to work out some kinks in my opinion 🙌
I think that Anthony Richardson had a second print line going down the card just to the right of his right arm. I could be wrong but I think you got lucky on that grade!
I just checked the AR card, and did notice what you were seeing but that line is actually part of the photo. It’s part of the backdrop of the image 👌 Overall I still feel lucky to get a 9.5 though based on the size of that one print line 😅 Thanks for watching and the comment!
I’ve never used any ‘ad rate’ or paid promotion on eBay. I personally don’t think it makes any difference as long as you have a solid title for your listing 🙌 Thanks for watching!
@@littlevictoriessportscards197 yessir, this is my favorite sports card channel on the Tube honestly! I wish I could afford that card because man.......... that would be the pinnacle of my collection! Maybe 1 of these years lol.
I've been cracking a lot of PSA 9 type cards that I get for around raw value and grading at SGC and find mostly the same results. One or two did get a downgrade, but most get a bump. PSA also certainly has their overgraded cards, you just never see anyone cracking those because of the value bump. Finally, with the Berry, I have graded a decent number of Frank Robinson autos from the late 90s and early 2000s and those always seem to get a 9 hung on them, so 9.5 cerainly is a nice grade.
Good to know other people are validating these results 👍 And you’re right, PSA does have their occasional overgrades, but we feel like we deserve them cuz of all the undergrades 😅
@@littlevictoriessportscards197 The ones where SGC gave lower grades too it was obvious why and were certainly cards I shouldn't have cracked. Also have some SGC grades popping today with a GMA 10 crack that has no business being gem and would guess it gets SGC 9. Some other PSA 9 cracks in the sub, so should be interesting to see the trend continue.
You know what's funny, and I don't know if anyone else had encountered this, but I always avoid using those Black Elastics when I send to PSA. I feel they'll give me lower grades out of spite knowing where those elastics likely came from! lol
Dealing with psa, with some cards u got to pay for that 10... or get pop and surplus charged controlled. Meaning they're in business to make money. Good reveal, though...
I’ve crossed over SGC 9.5’s & 10s to PSA 10s but also gotten PSA 8’s on SGC 10s. You gotta use your own eyes & not make assumptions. I think both companies have their merits, but SGC is much more forgiving on ultramodern/modern. I’ve cracked out SGC 9.5’s & 10’s that are so flawed I don’t even bother sending them to PSA. This is obviously a generality, both companies undergrade & overgrade cards. I just think it’s funny when people make comments on my videos saying PSA hands out 10’s like candy because it’s patently false. Each company has its own parameters & intricacies & you learn them w/ experience. Great stuff as always!
Fun video man! Glad you hit on those crackouts, especially that Flacco, must feel good! Some super nice cards, I especially love that 2013 Green Prizm Kobe, there color match Red Mosaic Warner, Dame Gold Light it Up (looks awesome in the Tux), and Draymond Lucky 13 auto! Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
Great results! This is a great example of PSA not understanding certain sets and card types. That's also a good example of how forgiving SGC can be on modern-ultramodern. Great way to figure out what goes where for grading if you have a good relationship with both. I still think SGC's grades are more realistic overall. Nice Billups, I just graded 2 of the same Preview Refractor and 1 Atomic. I believe they were all 10's but they were also pack-pulled. Chauncey is officially in the Hall now and so is Walter Davis, Vince Carter and Michael Cooper if I read correctly. (don't know when you filmed) Also - I've opened tons of 06-10 Contenders and the edges are always pushed up just like 2016-2020 Topps Rainbow parallels. It almost looks like they cut those sheets upside down because of the way they curl up but who knows. Awesome Barry and Freddie Freeman as well!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment 👌 It’s so important to know ‘what goes where’ for grading cards. I hope this video can help people when deciding which grading company to use for specific cards. I’m stoked Chauncey made the hall this year!
In all honesty this comes across as a dunk on SGC. Nothing on this channel in particular and nothing against you being transparent, but this will absolutely cause your video to be used in a way to talk even more crap on SGC.
I do see what you’re saying. Unfortunately that wasn’t my objective of this vid :( I was just sharing my observations, hopefully most people will understand that, and know I’m a big fan of both SGC and PSA 🙌 Thanks for watching and the comment!
Great reveal. Seeing the differences is kinda crazy. I got a question. What does SGC do for print lines? I have some cracked ices and xfractors I want to get slabbed but I know PSA basically gives those an 8 automatically.
Yeah, PSA usually knocks down front print refractor/xfractor lines two grades. But if they’re thin, maybe just one grade. SGC is more lenient. I agree with @andrewkleinman1852, SGC usually takes off .5. Thicker lines one grade off 👌
PSA is harsh, especially with centering. 55/45 both ways is likely to land you a 9 even when everything else is perfect. Has happened to me on many submissions.
