In this video we drive the Motorhome over Sonora Pass, California. It is the steepest Pass in California, 26% Max Grade! It is also the 2nd highest in California. Tioga Pass in Yosemite is the highest by an additional 365 ft. It was slow going but definitely worth the drive. One of the most beautiful drives we have been on. The Landscape was Amazing!

Right where you took the breakfast break is a steep long down hill ending in a sharp turn. You are a braver man than I sir, taking a motorhome over Sonora Pass is a real challenge. Can't say how many times I've been parked along side the road and got the strong smell of hot brakes or transmissions as someone in a motorhome or maybe pulling a travel trailer or 5th wheel passed by. As you pointed out keep your speed down and take your time. Thanks for the beautiful video.

Thank you for this video. I was debating if I should drive my 38' skoolie up to the pass to meet up with my PCT hiker husband, and this is everything I need to say absolutely not! Looks like he will need to hitch hike down :)

We have a 1996 30' Flair. Have traveled 108 over Sonora pass many times. But I would not try it with our RV. BTW, your 1995 Flair is in awesome shape.

I drove over Sonora Pass, starting from Long Barn, with a packed rental SUV and my cat--moving to Las Vegas--and there was still snow in June of 2016. It was below 30 on the pass and when I arrived in Las Vegas, it was 120. The drive was stressful with ice on the road, but I took my time--all alone on the road, no other vehicles. Breathtaking views on the pass. I do miss living in Long Barn!

I have a 27 FT 1995 Fleetwood Flair and upgraded many of the systems inside with the help of my brother, we often take trips and enjoy many of the national parks and monuments. We have done the Tioga pass just like you we drive using the RPM to govern the motor output as to save the motor and monitor the engine temps. I converted all the roof vent to fantastic fans. My brother found power on all the vents. With three fans running we can quickly exchange the air inside and hardly use the AC. I rigged a outside LP connection to cook outside using a 33,00 BTU two burner stove with oven and grill setups. I look forward to see your Yosemite videos.

Hi David, I know that they made a 26 ft and a 28 Ft but not aware of the 27 Ft. Please take a look at a video that I did for Fleetwood Flair owners and let me know if it is any of these floor plans. I'm a very big fan of these motorhomes so let me know!! Thanks again for your great comments! here's the info: I've been getting a lot of questions regarding the specs of my Fleetwood Flair Motorhome. I have created a link to a video that I created answering those questions. I talk about the original brochure that shows Tank Capcities, and other cool info. Since you are one of those that said they have a Fleetwood Flair motorhome I thought you might be interesested. Here's the RU-vid link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dmAxO2PWCQo.html. Thanks Greg Moore.

@@gregmoor1 It is just like your floor plan but the ward is turned toward the bed and there is room to walk between them. I installed a flat screen with a slide that articulates and found power for a fantastic fan in all three vents. I thought it was a 27 ft

@@davidarreguin3303 I thought it was 28 not 27. in your closet there should be paperwork giving you the loading capacity as well as the model number. Is it this 1995 Floor plan? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qSLmqfgaRpY.html&ab_channel=TheRVCorral Thanks Greg

Thinking of the same Route in my 26' Flair. Going up the grade, what gear and what rpm ? Engine temperature? How was the descent? Brakes adequate? What gear? Enjoying your trip-thanks for posting

First of all what year is your 26' Flair. Ours is a 1994. Ours does not have an rpm gauge. Here is my advice. Go early in the morning and take your time: Cooler temperatures, less people on the road, better lighting. We did the trip in Early August 2020. We stayed the night before at Pinecrest Lake. On the steeper climbs we were in 1st and 2nd gear. Yes there were some places where we were going only 15 mph on the steepest grades. Not a lot of people are traveling early so many times we had the road to ourselves. going down hill same thing 1st and 2nd gear. let the engine do the work. There were many people that you could smell their brakes. Also as a pre-caution turned off the air conditioner and turned on the heater full power. The temp on the motor never got past 250 so for us overheating was never was an issue. Absolutely a beautiful drive! enjoy.

Hey, good to hear from you. That was a steep climb but I'm so glad that we did it. I think we will do Tioga Pass next year in Yosemite. We are actually trying to go to Yosemite Valley this weekend. It has been very difficult getting camping reservations as well as day passes due to covid. On top of that the smog from all of these fires is going to limit visibility. All of these fires were started by lightning strikes. In all my years living here I have never seen lightning storms like that before.
