There are absolutely men who I believe would do this, but I know for sure there are men who would put themselves in danger to protect a woman. One I’ve seen jump into situations to protect strangers is my current husband. He stormed up into a hotel room to protect our friend who was stuck in there with her boyfriend, their baby and several loaded guns. I was terrified, but he walked right in there while this man stood with a pistol in his hands. The other was my guardian angel. In 2007 in Louisiana, a random man came to my rescue when my ex-husband was attempting to strangle me 6 months pregnant. That man pulled his gun on my ex-husband when he attempted to drag him off me and my husband retaliated. I never even got the name of that angel, but he was the only person who tried to help out of all the people who saw. And there were a lot of people. We lived across from a hotel and it was raining when I fled our house and ran barefoot and pregnant across a busy street with my husband chasing me with a crowbar. All I kept thinking was these people were about to watch this man kill me and my baby. Thank God for that man who put his own life on the line for some woman he’s never seen before and would never see again. So this song resonates with me and just makes me say a silent prayer for MY angel every time I hear it. Edit: Sorry for the book, but this song hits me hard and I rarely ever speak on this subject, but everyone should know…there are good men who walk amongst us daily who put themselves second to the safety of women and children.

Not exactly. The judge is a specific gun. It can shoot two different calibers one of which is a 410 shotgun slug. It's a model not a nickname.

So, those of us that live in Michigan know this song well. Our oldest daughter loves museums. We went to the shipwreck museum . She had to read every story, look at all the pictures. This song was on a loop, after what seemed like hours, I asked my hubby to stay with her as I was giing outside. To this day I can say that, "if I have to listen to this song again, I think my ears would start bleeding lol 😂

I was there with 2 ex-husbands no one came to my defense wish I would have met someone like this back then. I survived with PTSD and couldn't have children. Took me over 20 years to face it and trust again. Through it all they never broke my spirit, just my self-confidence. I should have died more than once but I'm here and I still see the good in others, just have trust issues 😊

I agree having a stranger do something like that is a little more unlikely. I imagine that maybe as a child he watched his mother get abused and he couldn't protect her. We are also living in a day and age where someone will kill a person on the interstate because they made them mad or because somebody is wearing the wrong color of clothes. It may be improbable but it's not totally unbelievable.
@carlavirgin8149

I always thought the same, maybe his character watched someone he loved go through it and couldn’t help them so he kind of snapped. As a DV survivor I tend to get so protective

Obviously it’s reading into a bit, but with that backstory, the lines “She didn’t tell the whole truth, but she didn’t have to-I KNEW WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO HER” takes on such a deeper meaning. She didn’t have to explain, because he’d seen it/lived it. Just brilliant songwriting.

I really appreciate your reaction to this video, as well as your comments regarding the storytelling. Such a powerful and sad story. I hope you'll continue to give country music a listen as the majority of country songs are about storytelling. Some of the older ones may be a little more 'twangy', but the stories are still relevant. A few that come to mind: "He Didn't Have to Be" by Brad Paisley (about stepdads); "Remember When" by Alan Jackson (about marriage); "There Goes My Life" by Kenny Chesney (about teenage pregnancy); "Live Like You Were Dyin'" by Tim McGraw (about his dad passing away too young); Just too many more to mention at this time.

To add to the other comments... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?" I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.

I don't think it's entirely unrealistic for a stranger to want to beat the guy up. In my opinion, if he planned on just shooting the abuser, he would have shot him first thing, but he didn't until the guy went for his gun. I don't think it would be many people, though. My thoughts are that most people would either stop and offer to take her to the police or not stop because that's how you get killed these days. My experience was that people just put their heads down and carried on. I had people I knew and saw daily who had to have known what situation I was living in, but they said absolutely nothing. So, I'm a bit jaded on people. None of my experience has been in the South, though, so maybe folks there are just built differently.

The take away I have from this story is that maybe he had a sister or good friend go through this type of DV and knows that “giving him a taste of his own medicine” or calling the cops only enrages the abuser further and it gets worse and worse for the victim and it’s hard to escape. A RO is nothing more than a piece of paper, speaking from experience. On another note, have you heard “Try that in a small town”? I’d suggest that for a react vid

Great reaction! How about some rock opera? Check out “Meatloaf”, a fantastic story teller and entertainer! So many to choose from, but his official music video of “I’d do anything for love” will leave you speechless

I always just imagined he came from an abusive home and he saw his mom / sisters abused but was too small and weak then to do anything about it. That is the only way I can justify the actions taken.

I would say a man tha reacts to abuse like that has seen abuse 1st hand. Usually, a victim of abuse will either grow up to be an abuser or overprotective. I know this is just a video but I'm speaking from experience.

If you like story telling country, there aren’t a ton of better songs than Where the Wild Things Are - Luke Combs. Also, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot is a legendary song.

You're right, it can happen and I'm sure it's not as often as one would want to believe you just don't hear about it and it probably did happen to someone that he knew and I loved that you acknowledged that. However, domestic abuse just doesn't happen in families, it happens on the streets as well. In all genders and even in children. Too many people just turn their heads and look the other way and your right, I have children because it doesn't just stop with females but it's something that needs to be brought to everyone's attention. I'm a survivor of child abuse, child sexual abuse and gang rape by the age of 11. Whether you do what he did or just speak up, it's something that people need to start doing, it's become the normal in society today and the cops just let them back on the streets to do it again to the same person or someone else. It's got to stop. And it needs to be brought to awareness.

This song is ridiculous....threw his life away for someone he didnt know, killed a man without "loading her down with questions"...former LA Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer got accused of beating a woman...2 years later it finally came out that she did it to herself to try to get at his money....in this scenario, he would have been killed in his home by the "hero" who is an absolute psychopath

I want to start out by saying 2 things can be true at once. First, your statement is not wrong. Second we also have to remember that it is a story that allows us the listeners to fill in gaps where info isn't spelled out for us which is why I think we all have different interpretations/reactions of this song

@HIM_066xMusicReactions I'm from Texas, while I'm all about protecting the defenseless, this girl was walking down the street, in the middle of the night, in the pouring down rain...in East Texas that would earn you a meth head bingo. All they would have to do to make this song reasonable is to make the random stranger a family member or a friend. This would explain why he did something so irrational, or him seeing this stranger getting beat, but after the fact? Take her to the police and let them handle it. No, they have this girl who supposedly got beat up by a man, get in the truck of this unhinged psychopath....maybe her and her dumbass choices are partly to blame

Have you tried Ren? Not country, he defies genre, really. But he calls his storytelling songs, "bardcore," like the wandering minstrels of old. Try the trilogy, "The Tales of Jenny & Screech." That is a story if you ever heard one! Please don't break the songs up, though. They build and you lose the momentum if you split them. It may be counterintuitive, but you'll probably get more views leaving them all together. If a reactor splits them up, I usually just end up watching the last one of the three. 😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TYAnqQ--KX0.htmlsi=WFgpxJcrEVmfH42y
