OH Gareth, you are a joy to watch and to listen to. My wife and I watched you this morning and we are off the Morrisons this afternoon to put our hands on this lamb curry. Thanks again for bringing a joy into every day eating …and none of your favourite brown sauce in sight! One day you must wear a Tommy Cooper Fez… your truly magic .
So much happiness from a supermarket made meal, the red glow is spreading from the top , past the ears and down the cheeks. But two people? It's moments like these that RU-vid was made for. Cheers
Great video Gaz, I’ll definitely be trying this. The reason a 400g pack is deemed a sharer is because it’s all curry. Most 400g Indian meals we buy are half curry/half rice. So by the time you add naan or rice to this one it’s enough for 2.
400g is almost the same as a can of curry (392g) so the difference is an extra teaspoon of sauce so it's hardly masses of food for a hungry man. I suspect that in most cases, meals like this are marketed as 'serves 2' because the mandatory traffic light system on the front of the pack makes it difficult to sell a meal that contains 104% of an 'Adults Reference Intake' of saturates. They know that many people will eat the lot themselves once they taste it. Looks yummy.
I've not tried that particular Morrisons curry, but I've found their range of chilled curries (Takeaway range) in plastic containers to be decent and cook well in the microwave. No rice or side items, but I find them tastier than the ones supplied with rice. The Lamb Rogan Josh and Chicken Jalfrezi are my preferred ones. The latter is supplied with chunky onions and peppers. Their sachets of microwavable rice (e.g. basmati or pilau) are reasonably priced as an addition to the curry. The plastic containers are solid resealable ones and I successfully reuse them to freeze my own cooking - e.g. a cottage pie mix that can be defrosted and united with mashed potatoes in an oven dish. If cleaned sufficiently, they could also be decent stackable storage boxes - e.g, stationery items, craft items.
For naan consider putting in frying pan and medium hot with a nob of butter. Flip once or twice. Makes it taste like restaurant fresh. Works also from frozen.
Another great review. I noticed you pushed tbe foil into the curry which surprised me. I would have just wrapped it around the top and crimped it over. I have read that foil should not touch the product as small amounts of aluminium can leech into the food at higher temperatures, especially with acidic dishes like curries. Some people also wrap cooked food in it and store it in the fridge. This does the same thing if left for days. Not good.
Trouble is, when I watch one of your reviews I always end up feeling really hungry and our local Morrisons has just shut!! I'm off there tomorrow so lamb curry for lunch for me. Thanks for the review, it takes the gamble off wondering if it will be good. By the way, the Aldi chicken vindaloo you reviewed a few weeks ago was really good too.
This Looks ok I like the Tesco mini Naan Garlic Breads For me the foil is shiny side down And often think if your paying for the product name or what's inside the packaging Also i never put tin foil in a microwave
400g is always a one person meal, would suit 2 people dieting. What's not good if a lot of it is gravy but good that there was enough for your enjoyment. Spot on!
To accompany this, get Morrisons basmati microwave rice pouches... just 49p each. and one of them is perfect for one person. Two minutes in the microwave, dead easy and delicious!
Couple of decent ones there from Morrisons in last couple of days. I just think for £5… I would rather pay a bit more and go to the Curry House as I call them 😀 top video…. Loving your Del Boy impressions! 😂…. Smithy
Great review Gaz and there plenty of meat for a change some posh chef said dull side towards the food but who cares 🤣 keep up with the great reviews as always 👏👏👍👍
Had this Morrisons lamb curry for dinner today, with Tilda basmati rice & a garlic & herb naan. It was very good indeed, masses of tender lamb in it as well. Thought I would weigh the unopened bag of curry, to my surprise it weighed 540grams. Took it out of the plastic bag & it still weighed 530grams, even though the box states 400grams. Well pleased with that, only needed to use half the pack as 265grams & lots of lamb along with the basmati & naan was plenty. Looking forward to the other half tomorrow, not bad all this lovely lamb curry for 4 quid a pop giving 2 currys out of a pack, be interesting to see if the packs I bought was a boo boo with the packaging machine in the factory putting more curry in than intended.
That’s interesting,I was told shiny side up, as long as it works who cares. For someone with my appetite that would do for 2 meals but not for you I think. I’m Australian, I grew up eating lamb.
I tried to get this from Morrisons in Rhyl the shop worker told me it's a seasonal thing for Xmas, I thought people ate turkey at Xmas not lamb curries? Morrisons sort your head out curry is not a seasonal dish, cheers for the review Gareth :)
Hey Gareth, thanks for another great review, that lamb curry sounds lovely, sadly we don’t have Morrisons or Aldi here in NI. I do love how you never spill anything when you use a “bib”, unless the editor knows different. 🤔
Hi Gareth from Spain. Those onions looked like earthworms! I'm a bit picky and I'm always cautious about other people's curries so I prefer to make my own. I shall be making a chicken curry tomorrow to use up the remains of last Sunday's roast.
Supermarket curries have come along way from Vesta chicken curry imo some are on par with Indian restaurant takeaways I will definitely be trying this one looks yummy 👍
Bang on,rice and garlic nan. Marks and Spencers should take note for future NEW recipies,to add M&S would provide foil tray, which if cleaned, is resuable (and recyclable).
I tried yesterday chicken dinner kebab. I also got a packet of naan bead and it was delicious. You could definitely feel a bit of heat and the chicken was nice. I’m looking forward to getting the lamb curry tomorrow.
There's a quote I love by Robin Williams where he's talking about whether to have red or white wine with food- he said it doesn't matter - it's dead. It's not like the chickens gonna say the red one!
Right gaz ive just bought two of the lamb curries! There were a lot of boxes opened in shop , probably people looking to see if it had rice with it👍. You are right about trying the chilli sauce first! As usual i went at it like a bull at a gate!!! Cheers mate . Steve.
what a fantastic review Gareth keep up the good work keep them coming lol . I love lamb and will definitely be trying the lamb curry. take care catch you on the next one 😀👍
Yet another great review Mr G 👍👍. You really had me smacking my lips with this one. Your dead right though, it's certainly not for two people. Cost wise? Two for £8, throw in a couple of Nash's and some rice and you have a tasty meal for two at under £10. You can use any side of cooking foil. Unless you buy a non stick brand where the non stick side is the dull side. However, if you are cooking baked potatoes, or other veg? It is recommended to have the shinny side touching the spud, it's all to do with radiated heat that helps the spud cook quicker all the way through.
This looks delicious so I went on the website as I've not seen this before but couldn't find it. Wonder if its a regional thing. I'll just have to keep my eyes open. Loved the video Gareth, cheers
It could be a little bigger or a little less on the price. Its certainly is not big enough for two but as for quality it leaps out of that dish, it doesn't need smelly vision you can see how tasty that is. This one is now on the list to try lamb being my favourite, nice one 😁.
I don’t normally shop in Morrisons, only because it not near me, but I will now, even if you bought 2 for 8 quid it’s still cheaper than a curry house, well it is in London 😂…definitely going to seek this out next week, as always Garth thank you 🙏🏻
Looks delicious could scoff that right now. Yes 🤣 it does reflect when cooking foods wrapped or covered with aluminum foil, the shiny side should be down, facing the food, and the dull side up. This is because the shiny side is more reflective and so will reflect more of the radiant heat than the duller side. 👍
Shiny side down so it reflects the Heat back towards the food. Also, instead of water I use a good Portuguese Olive Oil - usually bought at TKMax. (About the only place you can find it!).
Hi, my husband and I moved from barrow a number of years ago and don't get to visit often so we love your roadtrip videos. Thought we'd recommend that you try a greens pie, we'd like to know what you think given how legendary they are among locals! Thank you and keep the great content coming :)
It looks good, and you seem to love it. I've stopped using my oven some time ago and cook almost everything in my Cosori Air Fryer, only using an Induction Hob for items that are better boiled. I'm wondering if there is some way to cook this Lamb Curry in my air fryer? I'll check Morrisons at Bilston when I go next week, and see if they are stocking it.
Really love these curry road-tests Balded Wonder! Sadly not all of your research projects are available down here in the Softy South. I reckon the Curry-Command back office don’t reckon we’re hard enough.
Looks excellent for ready meal .always rip off if rice included , make your own better idea or have some Indian bread of your choice . Chapatis so easy to make or be adventurous and do paratha it’s worth the effort .
Looked good but needed to be twice the size which I'd be happy to pay £6 for. I'd keep them refrigerated if they have a decent date on as they'll probably marinate and tenderise better than freezing.
So GREAT to see you in such ecstacy with a rare FULL MARKS serving. True that a 400gram serving is typical of former pound microwave meals, now at various stages of £1.25, so with quantity compromised quality does have to be tropospheric to be worth the cost, and you're selling it on exactly that note. I'm not a curry fan, although from the ingredients, it's not strong. If this were a braised beef, I'd be tempted. I think you've just cleared the shelves in Morrisons up and down the nation as your subscriber tribe race out to buy them. 😊
Looks great to me. If it’s as good as you describe, got to give it a go. I don’t think £4/5.00 is asking too much, like you say it’s British Lamb so hopefully, Morrisons will be paying our British farmers a decent amount for it… Going to get some plain rice, some naan & poppadoms with chutney…. Lovely. Will let you know….. 👍😃..
Knew you'd enjoy that one. Tastes as good as any takeaway. On the tin foil usually the dull side is non-stick. That's the only difference although some manufacturers print " only use the dull side" on the packaging.
I love lamb. It's my favourite meat. That curry looked gorgeous. You definately convinced me it's worth buying. Super video with sound effects 😂. Thank you sweet. Have a lovely day xx
Hey Gaz.... I've a bit of a challenge for you and any of your awesome viewers.... Quite a few years ago, while dining out with an old flame, I had an idea (was probably just a brain fart to be honest)... we had a really nice Lamb meal and then for dessert we had apple pie and custard (twas a really nice custard too!)... I put forward the idea (or brain fart) that , well, I really like Lamb (favourite flesh of an animal)...and I really like a really good custard....why not put the two together... About a year later, a good chef friend of mine presented me with that very dish... Lamb & Custard.... but he did something else also...that was a second dish of Lamb & Mint Custard..... I was compelled to consume both as wasn't gonna waste good Lamb... and actually...I was pleasantly surprised... the Lamb was really good and really tasty...same with both of the Custards. So.... Please tell me what you, Gaz, & all of your very good viewers, think of 'Lamb & Custard'...... Rather Brilliant Idea💡.... Or Rather an Abominable Brain Fart🧠💨...?? ...
Great video this Gareth and i'll give the curry a try. Looks gorgeous although a little pricey but then again it is lamb. My wife is Indian and I go to India regularly to see her family. India is well worth a visit but expect a culture shock.
I saw this in Morrisons last Monday, and had it for dinner(for one). Like you, I didn't read what was in the box, and thought it came withe rice! It was very enjoyable though, and may go down as my lamb treat every so often.
It makes no difference which side of aluminium foil you use. It is shiny because they mill two sheets between rollers at once, the outer side gets polished and the inner remains dull :)
Saw your video late tonight off on a flight to disneyland with my daughter in an hour.. Absolutely bricking it. I'll watch your videos in the evening when i unwind. Lamb curry looks nice will have to try it when im home. 👍🏼
I think being fresh and not frozen, the lamb has had proper time to marinate in the sauce. In the frozen chicken currys you see the meat just plonked onto the sauce, then frozen so it can’t absorb the flavour’s.
Thanks so much for this one :) i just finished it a wee while ago and it is everything you said it was, The best lamb curry i have had outside of a [ Quality] restaurant, only issue is ! i think you must be getting too popular......went to my local Morrisons in my town, no joy=shelf empty, drove 10 mile to a large morrisons and i got the very last one left on the shelf !
Hi Gareth, just watching this video and was thinking that foil you put on the tray were a perfect bed for some chips to go on top and cook at the same time. Think you may have discovered something. Love the channel, Keep going mate 👍🏻
I'm normally a beef man, but having seen this, I could be tempted to try it. You would need to add rice, but that wouldn't hike the cost massively. You don't mind paying a bit more if it's *really* good.....
you should also try the chunky chiili and firecracking chicken from same range, delicious, i tries the kebab and it was ok, got the lamb to try in the freezer, 10/10 for review as always
I think it is better to buy something like that without rice. Lamb is expensive and rice is a cheap filler, so the half curry/half rice meals are not great value. Also, curry-only means you can choose to have naan, other bread, chips, a jacket potato or anything else with it - even rice! It looks really nice, worth a try the next time I am in Morrisons. (It is not two servings on its own, though.) Interesting about the foil, I never thought about it before. I use it with the shiny side away from the food, just because that is how it comes from the roll, but I wouldn’t have thought it would make much difference to the food either way. Thank you for another honest review, it really is useful when I am looking for something different for dinner.
That looked delicious mate, although a tad oily for my delicate tastes, that’s my fat content for the week! Certainly looks much better than asdas (now £4) curries …..
Great video as always mate. Definitely shiny side down with foil. They don't make them only one shiny side for the the benefit of your oven! 🙂 As for this curry and the excellent chicken donor kebab review you did, I am delighted that the entire 400g of both packs are made up of the expensive bits. The meat and the sauce and spices. Rice, naan bread and other flat breads are cheap and easy to make for yourself. Too many retailers pad out their 400g servings with the cheap add on's. Fair play to Morrison's, I will be buying these. Thanks again for a great review and making us aware of these products 🙂
They don't deliberately make one side shiny. The dull side is the side in contact with the rollers during manufacturing. It makes zero difference which side you 'use'. It's purely cosmetic.
