The sales numbers recently tell me these things: DVD's are still the king and will always regain its crown even if the 4k or Blu Ray have occassional spikes. The Blu Ray still isn't catching the physical media eye, and seems to be the middle child that isn't getting any attention lol. And the 4K only gets attention here and there, because simply 4K's came out too late to the game for anyone to start collecting the format
@@megamikethemovieman It would be, but Blu Rays and 4k's are very expensive to sell to the common consumer. And now with Infaltion at its highest its even harder to sell due to the higher costs. DVD's win the bout because its cheaper and easy to produce on a whim
I don't think it's a too late thing as much as it is 1) format change fatigue, and 2) diminishing returns. Had the industry jumped straight from dvd to 4k, or stopped at bluray, I highly doubt dvd would be anywhere near the level it's at now
Great video. Your right, so many TV series and movies on DVD that will never see release on another format keeps DVDs very relevant. I was wondering if you would be able / interested in including the top selling DVDs of the week also?
I don’t think my source list the top DVDs unfortunately (but will double check). I know they do too blurays but that’s often very similar to the top 4Ks which is why I don’t include that one separately.
@@megamikethemovieman I believe they should stop making DVDs there are no 480p tvs being sold. Barely any 1080p TVs anymore. They should only be putting out physical media on 4k right now that's it. The way they forced people to upgrade TVs, they need to force them to upgrade their discs
@@ThornTheaterReviews So only tough part for most of the consumers would be the prices on the 4Ks. I could see Blu-ray’s for-sure though at least if they stopped making DVDs. Why don’t you think they stopped making DVDs like they did with VHS?
@@megamikethemovieman to be fair new movies have always cost around $27. Realistically all they have to do is lower the price a little bit and remove DVDs entirely
Bad Boys did solid but nothing amazing yet. I think everyone is thinking Deadpool 3 is going to save theaters. You think Deadpool 3 will pass a 100 million domestic opening weekend?
@@megamikethemovieman Yes. But I despise new Trek. I'm thinking of watching the Orville. I hear it really captures the spirit of original Trek but with a modern twist.
@@user-cz6do6rx9i I’ve heard great things about that series as well. What don’t you enjoy about the new Treks? Also, do you mean all the new movies and series?
Yao there's a lot of good ones this month. 4Ks are really low what are the Killer Klowns doing? Popcorn shoot the fans into buying goofballs!🎈 Maybe you don't know it but all of the newest releases also come out on DVD and add to that that there's a ton of direct to DVD movies like you say. But this numbers look pre-pandemic. Heck it seems like dead DVD collectors have come back to buy more. Maybe even Bradley(R.I.P.) went to Walmart!😱 But yeah the younger generation are not caring about movies. Last times I went to theaters, when they were open here, I noticed very few teens most moviegoers looked like grown-ups or older people. Only when there was animated movies playing did you see kids. Heck I remember my dad, who introduced me to horror, took me to see The Child or Jaws at 5! But then again theaters in P.R. would let kids watch Cannibal Holocaust as long as they were with a guardian. I know that here in continental US is not like that.😭
This is recent home media entertainment charts dude. The sales don't lie and DVD's are killing it. I understand you're all Blu Ray and stuff but the truth needs to be acknowledged here, and Blu Ray isn't doing well as DVD's lol
@@Eva01-jy2qu7pu9r lol!🤣 The vast majority of my collection is DVD and I buy the new releases on DVD. But even I am amazed of these post pandemic numbers. 🤔
@@Eva01-jy2qu7pu9r before the pandemic the numbers were DVDs 75%, Blu-rays 20% and 4Ks 5%. Those numbers now look almost pre-pandemic. I still collect VHS have 100s but don't know how many.🤔
Going to watch Belladonna of Sadness soon. If you say “if you’re into that” I’m the guy who’s probably into that 😂 Don’t have 4k capablities though. Will look into a blu-ray edition
Dvd will outlive blu-ray and 4k,it makes no sense, but that's what it looks like.Blu-ray had it's time but in decline ,4k never could hit it's potential ,and never will because of streaming and digital downloads. I collect only blu-ray,i think 4k players are going to be a problem in the future.Just my opinion.
@@megamikethemovieman Yes when Sony and Panasonic stop producing i mean, not counting Magnetar and Reavon.maybe it sounds paranoid ,than you have to go secondhand for a player. For a basic blu- ray player that is a lot easier.Like i said, just my opinion,i could be wrong.
