That being said, I also think the gardens of Peterhof are indeed way better than in Versailles (but smaller), neat and organized. The building isn't as great though. It's the opposite in Catherine summer palace, in which it's the building it's that is gorgeous.

There's scores of videos on YT of Japanese tourists in Paris asking where the Parisians are and in turn asking what happened to the Paris they read about, thought existed and travelled half a world away to experience. By all means search them out and verify. Would Tokyo be a more beautiful city if it was less Japanese? Would Nairobi be a more beautiful city if was less Kenyan? Would Lima be a more beautiful city if it was less Peruvian? Of course not. So why is London and Paris more beautiful because it's become less of what made them beautiful in the first place? If you have to chose? Go to St. Petersburg first. It's the most magnificent and beautiful city in the world! I never loved Moscow. But it's only my weird inner feeling. I know that Moscow is beautiful and there's lots signs to see for the foreigners. But St. Petersburg got its special spirit! That along with history, architecture and people makes the city so special. Go better in June, it's a season of white nights and quite wаrm weather there.
