I was So Hoping you could Auto when the failure happened and then you did! best save ever!!

It doesn't look like the turbine failed, but rather something mechanical in the drive/transmission. After the POP you hear the turbine accelerate RPM (no load), and the rotor system loses torque. After the landing it sounds like a normal turbine shutdown.

This owner and pilot is the luckiest pilot and RC helo owner. I doubt the helo could survive from a higher altitude. The pilot has skills! Nice evaluation phishstyx. I personally like watching pre-flight assembly, take-offs, and landings.

Yes, there was no fiery explosion. Everything is relative as to what happened. The timing of the turbine failure. The speed of the aircraft. The altitude. The flight attitude of the hell. In the end, all of these amazing circumstances coupled with the ability of an amazing pilot, brought a really expensive aircraft to the ground safely and in one piece. No one was hurt, no colaterall damage. It will fly again. To an RC Aviator, that means everything. AirHammer out!!

EXCELLENT piloting after that turbine explosion. These are NOT TOYS by any means folks. And they take skilled pilots to fly them. I hope it was repairable considering the cost of this hobby. And i'm quite sure it will be.

Is there a difference between a little tiff smoke and an explosion? It doesn't look like the turbine failed as the engine was still producing torque. It probably was a mechanical issue.

Very nice autorotate at the end. Knowing about autorotation seems like perhaps the model pilot may be a pilot for a full scale helicopter or may know a pilot for a full sale helicopter.

So lucky! Skilled pilot too of course getting it down so quickly and smoothly. I was really hoping it would fail before liftoff but, the video length made it clear that wasn't going to be the case so I was waiting for the (I thought) inevitable failure right at the wrong time and complete destruction of ALL that beautifully made heli but instead was pleased to see it fail so close to the ground at lowish speed and his quick precise actions landing it without any other major damage. Yeah, I know the turbine if unfixable are expensive but, so much work goes into everything else and expense that it would have been so much worse if it had just come crashing down and pretty much disintegrating as usually happens with fixed wing aircraft, plus a lot more speed usually involved with them too. Nice save.

Seht Euch Crash-Action-Videos an. Ein super 5000€ Heli, sauber und gekonnt geflogen. Dann ein tragischer Ausfall der Turbine, dem meisterlich begegnet wurde. Top Rettung, meine Hochachtung!

Wow great save! Beautiful helicopter. Wonder how she blew?? Too much heat at the turbine or bearings went out?? I guess an engine that spin's at those rpm's with the high heat of operation caused it to give in. Great flight and great emergency landing. Must say that being an Rc pilot the blow out made me go oh dam.

The nice thing about those kind of Fuselages is if you have to land like that you don't tear the Tail rotor!!!

Das nenne ich können, Auro´s aus geringer höhe lassen kaum Zeit zum Reagieren. Wäre echt schade um das tolle Modell! Aber ich finde es gut das manche nicht nur Modelle bauen sondern auch fliegen können. Ist zwar ne menge Zaster die da immer fliegt aber immer nur dieses Kampfschweben wegen der Angst sieht auch nicht toll aus.

Why were the lights over the left and right landing gear strobing so fast? I never knew they strobed at all? such a beautiful helicopter and great flight up till the PSHSSSSSSSSSS sound though! :( Im glad you were not very high and was able to land safely!

Called a "droop compensator"... an essential piece of turbine technology. Ya see, when you apply torque which lowers turbine engine N2 rpm... and then apply throttle... the hot-end tends to heat up. Done consistently the metal turbine will over heat and self destruct. A droop compensator, whether it be mechanical or electronic applies fuel to the turbine the moment torque is increased. This prevents two things from happening, the slowing of hot gases in the combustion chamber by providing increased N1 rpm and it prevents N2 from dropping below 100% rotor rpm. Keeping the N2 at 100% rpm is to ensure on demand torque without over heating the hot end. The process is the same for single shaft model turbines. Protection from overheating is paramount.

Great Job of getting on the ground. Hope you had no damage.

Good recovery at the end and he was wise to belly land it and not attempt to lower the gear. Seen something similar happen at another place he was flying in low around 3m high when it failed he instantly put down the gear and then auto rotate and even though it was a softish landing it still ripped of the gear and messed up the belly
