In the final of our series - Organs of the Westerwald - we head out into the hills to a tiny village called Gackenbach. The church there, St. Bartholomäus, is known for its amazing dual organs - yes, organs - plural!
There are 2 separate instruments - one French in style and the other English.
Both are controllable from a central console and together they sound fantastic.
The organ is known throughout the organ world and the church hosts regular, well-attended international concerts.
A big thanks to Ralf Cieslik, organist in Gackenbach, for letting us have the time at the organ.

I love how he said *"I mean, we're talking *ORGAN MUSIC* here, you know?"* the disbelief in thinking how organ music could apparantly be so popular, I guess every organist can relate to that in this time and age 😅

I'm just getting into organs. I'm a long-time musician, got my degree in trumpet performance and then put the horn down for a career in software. Now I'm picking music back up and have decided to learn piano & organ. This is a good channel, thank you.

Magnificent! Power punch in a small package. Have been into organs since very small. Had one of my own at 18! (Lowery compac- closes up into 2 suitcases for band use)[2×60,13 pedals] Wished many times I never sold it. Traded it in on a Hammond BC (1938) wired for 3 Leslie 147s, and a tone cabinet w/2-12's. Came out of a church when they went to pipes. Amazing beast, how sweet the sound. I love your program, nevermind the length! When it's about organs, I'm all ears, and mind. I love the way you demonstrate the instrument, you let it speak for itself. Your playing technique exemplifies the instrument. You give it the best light. Blown away by "cleanest instrument EVER" comment. Few like maintenance. Mine being as old as it is, and being moved as many times as it has needs a bunch as well. I know! Great job, looking forward to more, God bless and keep you. TTFN.

A dear friend exposed me to Micheal Barone's Pipedreams celebration of the pipe organ. I heard a description and playing of the instrument(s) on his show and give you full credit for a wonderful investigation of this installation. This friend encouraged me to attend a recital in the Cathedral of the Madeleine here in Salt Lake City where they have a beautiful mechanically actuated organ. Amanda Mole played the instrument for us and did a wonderful session. Richard Elliot was present to introduce Ms Mole. I got to express my gratitude to Mr Elliot for his contribution to the musical community.

Beautiful instrument. I was a chorister at St. Mary’s Warwick which also has a double Nicholson & Co. Organ. The West organ is a neoclassical French 3 Manuel instrument with en chamade trumpets and a 32’ contra bombarde, the transept organ a 2 Manuel ‘hope-jones’ English organ. Both can be played together or separately.

Oh wow, what an exciting and unique beast! This is truly a king amongst organs; so clever to combine both organs on one console. I was thinking to myself (jokingly) "I wonder if there's a Tuba" and, oh my, there is! I never actually expected it. As for the length of the video, I could happily have sat through another half hour as you have a very compelling style and your passion for the organ shines through. Keep up the amazing work and thank you :)

Yes, "Wow"! What an organ, what an acoustic, what excellent recording technique capturing the sense of space here. Thanks! Learned a lot. Now I want to go hear it in person. In Los Angeles we're spoiled with a lot of really large organs, like the 20,000+ - pipe example at First Congregational Church. However, this one could show them a thing or two. Not just in scale, but in the beauty and accuracy of the flutes and reeds.

What a complete joy and pleasure to see and hear these two wonderful organs! And your discussion and demos were spot on. (That Pedal 32' Contre Trompette [?] really is breathtaking!) I do believe that these two organs, together, could more than adequately fill-up Notre Dame de Paris. It makes sense, tonally, having the French and English style instruments together. They complement each other beautifully and movingly. Thank you, et merci bien! 👍 ❤️ 👏

Good on ya my good man! I like the way you present your vids with all the nitty-gritty and witty bits. But, the more I watch your vids the more confused I get due to all those info you give about those church organs. This EU instrument is truly mesmerizing especially when you break down the types of it. Wonder if there are Italian and German types also. BTW, I read once that the first organ was built by a Greek engineer a few millennia ago and powered by water, is it true?

Another masterclass flit-through of another complex and fascinating instrument, topped off with a superb rendition. If you're investing in equipment, my recreation of a forgotten loudspeaker system of forty years ago that had (and still has) an abundance of dynamic range, the widest possible frequency response and levels of detail that border on reality, is soon to be available again, but with some major upgrades that bring forth audio on an instrument like this with 5.1 levels of sound-staging and power from just two stand-mount loudspeakers of modest proportions.
