WPIX 7:30pm News, August 22, 1983 

I'm 45 & have lived in NY all my life. The news hasn't changed much; Welfare, murder, LIRR problems...etc. What is different, is the format of presentation. I was impressed that they had an International story in the first 10 minutes of the program. You barely get that on national news programs nowadays. Jerry Girard is still my favorite Sportscaster of all time. Such a little wise-ass. Channel 11's News was always superior until a few years back when they changed the format away from the Kaity Tong-Jim Watkins team. They suck now. Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

35 years later, the city is STILL buying hotel rooms for the poor and homeless. The only difference is that inflation has jacked the amount up significantly.

from NYC,yes this how much was in the early eighties ,but the time in certain ways was much different but crime persisted.
