Great review sir! I have been holding back on buying this one but after watching your video, I am adding it to the fleet. It will be nice not to have to do all the electronic updates for once!
It´s a real delight to see a manufacturer listen to customers and produce a very satisfactory new product so quickly. I think the cut-throat commercial environment in which these models are produced might be helping to drive that adaptability. I wonder whether the truck might have found enough traction to make its way out of that stream bed, over those rounded stones and with wet tyres, if there´d been some more weight over the rear axles, like a smallish hammer head or something, wrapped in bubble-wrap (you´ve got plenty) and shoved through those marvellous scale rear doors.
It's really good to see them updating it and making it more useable out the box! The stones were a bit to slippery, it's right opposite my house, so will pop down there with a bit of weight and have another go at some point...although I won't leave it to long, that gets quite deep when the rain comes! lol
Let´s hope they eventually give us even more of this scale realism with other bodies in the future while keeping the excellent inverted leaf rear suspension, 180 motor and gentle rear propshaft angle.
Right. The truth. (Received mine the other day.). Not bad but, in the end, you get what you pay for. First drive. The front drive shaft fell off in a clump of DRIED grass. Note; was not driven in a particularly rough manner. As the truck seemed to still drive without it I was unaware it had dropped off. Consequently, took some time to locate it and I believe it comes off the motor shaft a bit too easily (no grub screw set up.) especially as the B36 is represented here, and in other videos, as being reasonably durable in off road situations. This factor alone indicates to me the upgrade/s are more than likely mandatory. The side and rear doors, although not quite so urgent, in the rear section of the truck do not shut properly. Other than this, it is ok, and thanks (Tomley RC Garage) for your interesting videos.
Thanks dude. Yes, the driveshafts are a weak spot, especially now with the 7.4v Li-ion giving a bit more power. Mine survived on the B36....but the new B24 (same set up)...I had a cracked in one and it came loose. For around $12 you can upgrade them all to metal.
Buyer beware, the rtr version has driveshafts that will strip and come off within 20 mins of use, and when upgraded to metal driveshafts the gearbox will strip. If purchased make sure to buy the upgraded parts as well cuz I've had mine 2 weeks and have barely put a full 30 mins of use on it.
In some cases the plastic shafts can break, and thats probably the most common problem. As for metal shafts stripping the gearbox.....I've yet to strip a stock gearbox, and I have some of these running motors with twice the power. Maybe the motor had become dislodged?
@@TomleyRC I'm starting to think the same thing, I've took the gearbox apart multiple times and the gear teeth themselves are good, but I think either the gear on the motor or the driveshaft gear is stripped on the shaft cuz it tries to move but just sits there and spins like one of yours did in an older video
Nice video, clean review 👍, love this truck might me my next project.. upgrade a few bits...motor , suspension axels and drive shaft add weight for a smooth more realistic ride and the rig has the ideal space for a huge battery for a FPV cam in the drive cab and long range transmitter with electronics in the cargo area. 🤔😍🥰
That one looks an ideal candidate for a truck soundcard. The boxy comms unit would be an ideal location. Well, it would give you a perfect excuse to upgrade the truck with something

I reckon the kit version of this is a bit over the top on price its only bout a quid cheaper than the ready to run version for the extra quid you may aswell get rtr
Well...when it becomes an issue I'll replace it. The Steering Servo is a 3 wire one, so easy to add your own equipment without needing to change the servo :)
Been thinking about buying this truck,but what do you think about the strength of this truck from stock and do you think it would be necessary to upgrade it.
can u plz do a video on how to put together the cogs inside the rtr gearbox, my gearbox was slipping and I opened it and all the cogs fell out of place and I don't know how to fix it.

Hi. I see you ran it thru a bit of water. Did you gauge a safe depth first ie: below the motor, etc? Also, where did you purchase the larger capacity battery?
Everything will work ok under water....apart from the electronics board, so work out where that sits and you should be good. The battery was from one of my other RC trucks (HS 18311), not seen them for sale separately.
Question. Are all the gears metal or is it just a few of them? What do you think would be better, the rtr or the kit? I want to get one of these but one of the biggest things is that is stopping me from getting the rtr is the tires, they still seem a lot harder than the kit ones. Really nice looking truck though.
The Diff gears are all metal, but the rest of the running gear is plastic. But the diff gears were the weak spot for these trucks, so that should now not be an issue. The tyres are still quite hard, but you can buy the kit tyres separately I believe, for not a lot of money. If you buy the kit, you'll need your own ESC and transmitter/receiver, so it depends on what you want from it. Now it's fully proportional there is no real urgency to upgrade. 👍

Have you bought it yourself or got it for review? You are showing us metal parts inside, but according to their website, you have to buy those separately, and have to upgrade it yourself! Your review might mislead.
Do you or amyone know if the wpl b16 6x6 version have locked differentials? I want to get a decent priced 6x6 truck with locked differentials and good suspension travel like this wpl please someone help
