@@SuperDolemite1 obviously a fake video just done for the hits. I can't believe he would go so far as breaking off his counterweight and smashing a hole in his case! Incredible. :-D
Nobody has perfect teeth, so obviously they're fake or he had them adjusted and whitened. In my humble opinion, perfectly straight teeth that are whiter than a white dwarf lighting up the night sky is not nice to look at because they are so ''perfect'' that it's unnatural.
interesting how all three fasteners sheared off - maybe the fasteners loosed off a bit then fatigued and broke? It looks more likely that that piece falling off is the aftermath of something else failing..?
Had to go back home end of May during my working holiday in Australia, bought myself a DR650 fully kitted out and ready for some bush adventures, was locked down in Melbourne, Craigieburn with the most awesome Aussie family I've ever had to meet. I miss that country, I miss the people, I miss everything about it and I can't believe you guys are still in such a lockdown. Oh yeah also, I'm selling my FZ6S for a WR250R, kitting out a van and heading to Portugal !
Those kinds of bolts should be pinned in place, that's not a part you want to remove unless something really bad has happened. Yet...i see no pinning in place. I mean, they pin those tiny, tiny screws that keep the throttle blade in place, they pin the even smaller ones on carbies, and the counterweight part, which is clearly a cost cutting design (it would be far more expensive to cast the full piece) isn't? Yeah, i'm calling bullshit on Yamaha. Not only did they cut costs, they didn't even pin the damned thing in place to make sure those bolts stay put. Major shitty thing.
They are all cutting cost, Honda even. I've got a 250L that had a major recall several months after I bought it. I'm sure they found a cheaper source for their shafts, and were gonna save some money, NOT!
For future reference, you can bypass the checkpoint by taking the Hopetoun Park exit before Bacchus Marsh than head down the old cutting. P.s Brendan, it's called Lerderderg.
A mate of mine spooled 240 000kms on his WR250r, without engine failure and minimal internal wear and tear! So the 23Ks should be just a warm up for that block. It's a true legend. Definitely deserves a second chance!
@MassCityMadman hey No engine rebuild was necessary, of course he adjusted the valves regularly and changed oil and filter every 5000km. He is a courier so most of those miles were done in city traffic. He has also done big Europe trips on it as well, visiting most European countries. He did some off-roading too but nothing hardcore so that probably helped with engine life. The enginge got totally disassembled at 110 000km to check the state of the parts but everything was in factory specs. Then he continued riding and working with the bike. The second complete disassembly was at 240 000km.Still within specs but obviously a bit more wear and tear than at 110. What the bike really needed is a ton of tires, brakepads, clutch plates, cables, chain and sprocket sets, and he had to change the ignition switch 4 times if I'm not mistaken as the delivery work required a lot of stop and go action and that always chewed the keys and the ignition up. He got the bike new and always took care of it.The technology and potential is there in the WR, it just needs regular services and a caring owner.
CRF450L have you seen the maintenance schedule? All you vids will be servicing the bike this week then we might do some riding. #maintenancewithtom ha ha ha
@@TDJDriftersBoss 450's are too strung out, they don't have big valve clearances, they have super high compression, and their only meant to last one race between rebuilds. Companies don't want to make a low compression 450 engine from the ground up so they either don't make a 450 adv or they try and it's a turd
@ReeseWilliamson you have a point, and this is why the CRF has such short service intervals. It's about as low maintenance as a 450 can get without sacrificing performance.
...If you want to see the damage start at minute 15. Balancer weight broke in half...as a long time Yamaha technician I would say someone has been in there before and over torqued the 6mm screws that hold it in place. If you are worried about this happening to you the easy fix is to remove the 3 6mm screws and use lock tight on them, re-install and use a good torque wrench. NOT ME WHO SAID THAT just copy a comment
Looks like the bolts fatigued and broke, weird thing to see as you'd expect the factory to have tightened them correctly! I'd get in touch with yamaha because they'd be interested to hear about a failure like this - might even offer you a new engine
That's crazy that you had an explosion! Glad you were able to get a friend to come pick you up. I can't believe all the check points last year. That's just mad!
ironic this vid appears 3 days after I offloaded my WR...but boys if you don't have it get comprehensive insurance and roadside assist. Also a good idea to have a PLB in case you're injured or well out of range. Ride safe!
I drive through that check point weekly. Playing catch my disease. My sick sense of humour. I get flagged through every time. On a side note. What an odd place for engine detonation
Considering that the army here uses WR250's, and I have seen about 20 of them with pretty much no engine problems, and like 30k kilometers driven, that can't be normal wear. I would have to guess that a part was already bad during assembly.
Mine had 92,000km. Valve clearance check at 42,000km and 81,000km, both times exhaust valves tight but not too far out of whack. Mechanic said he thought it may need a new timing chain around the 100,000km mark but I didn't make it. My fault, not the bikes.
Who takes a harmonic on a ride!! Love the yea a bit of JB weld!!! Brilliant!! Awsome to see good mates helping each other out, sorry Tom u should have kept the RR
He has an insta. He posted stories which were all included here. I don’t think he’d strapped on a go pro. If he did, we would have the footage pretty sure. He doesn’t upload.
there is a guy in germany who got 200.000 kilometers out of a wr250x and it still runs it didnt had major issues or something else. after 99999km on the speedo he wrote his trip kms on a paper because the speedo doesnt goes further than 99999km
When he started playing the harmonica, i legit expected the next scene to be with a military convoy of misfit bridge builders lead by a tree odd looking Sherman tanks and a hounding tank commander.
Honda, sponcer these ledgends haha. Send them flying along the trails on a crf450l. Certainly a fare whack on money for 3 bolts holding a balancer weight on. Good luck getting it all fixed. Very glad that us in the NT haven't had these issues, been riding the whole covid craze.
Look for a used engine on eBay or something I would say. Then take it apart and make sure everything looks legit before sending it. Wish you the best of luck Brendan. Hope my WR lasts like yours Tom. Just hit 7k miles the other day. Time for some tinnys I'm guessing.
What a random thing to fail. Would think they were either over-tightened or (more likely) came loose? Go the wrecker route, there should be a few engines available and it's a non wearing part that you need to replace. Unlucky mate!
possible problem started with balance shaft bearings first.hopefully find out when you strip and investigate further.shame yamahas normally very reliable.roll on end of lockdown
Australia needs to have a revolution, most of you all seem awesome but that lockdown shit is no go. Sorry wasn't expecting that in a WR engine explosion.
I brought a 2nd hand 10,000 km Honda CBX750 many years ago which exploded 3 days later at 140kph as Honda felt that doing up the big end bolts properly wasn't really important. That was fun to argue about with the dealer. Looks like something similar with the WR.
was the bike gone over and double checked from new, you can't just buy a new bike and start riding, it needs to be checked over cause a lot of the times things are loose
oil looks white. looks like he got water in the oil. i filled my case after going through puddles once. it took 5 oil changes before the oil got back to normal color. those 5 oil changes were only like 1 hour rides also, very very short. i was not taking any chances.
Bolts wiggled out far enough for the counterbalancer to snag the waterpump gear, bolts sheared off simultaneously, counterbalancer now free was shoved into gear train and having won the metallurgy war, exited the case at high speed. Total bummer
Show it Yamaha Australia they should replace it because the screws broke even if is out of warranty I done the same with Honda on a XR it broke crank they say they don’t break when they saw it the gave me a complete crank assy and it was well out of warranty worth a try
Looks like somebody forgot to loctite those ones. I’ve seen online Drz400 there’s a few bolts in the engine they recommend loctiting because they can come loose
Nice to know where you stand with your girlfriend ain't it! 🤣😱 hey when out riding like that, I never go without fire starting equip. and a water purifier or filter.
@@JelmervanderMeer07 well I hope you loose your Job, and can't even get out to look for another one. Over 2 million on this side eastern suburbs have under 10 people with it.
Honda, sponser these legends haha. Send them flying along the trails on a crf450l. Certainly a fair whack on money for 3 bolts holding a balancer weight on.
