I just bought one of these. The clips on the short sides are very dense and hard to open. Is there kind of a trick I don't konow? Or might some zipper fluid help on that as well? (Sorry for my english, it's not my native tongue. I come from Ortlieb-Land.)
Hi Martin! You could use zipper grease, but if you don’t have any, a bar of soap could do it. It will help the zipper slides. As for opening or closing the zipper (end start), it is normal to be hard. That’s part of the waterproofing. Ours are still the same, even after years of use. Hope this will be helpful. Cheers
The bottom of the bag looked like a different material. Is it waterproof on the bottom as well...if you set it down on the wet ground would it leak through?
Hi Katie, The bottom is reinforced with cordura. The Cordura is just on the outside of the bag. The cordura can get wet, but dry quickly we found. It doesn’t communicate with the inside of the bag which stays dry. Hope this is helpful.
Joshua Appleby we never took the plane with them. So we cannot unfortunately answer your question. But if the occasion occur, we would bring those bags with use. We are confident they would resist the abuse of a flight.
unfortunately not... mine has a few holes in it now because the airport staff threw it,... and i had equipment in it... or it was friction, from the staff pulling it along somewhere. hence, i would protect the bag when flying. the bag is... was... awesome! very good, i love it... if i cant fix the holes i will definitely replace it with the same bag again! can recommend it, i've been using mine since more than 4 years now
They worked well the whole time on our adventure. We did put a lot of abuse on these bags and we have to say that we are very impress. Zippers are still as waterproof as they were on the first day (even after opening the zippers on our bags every single day for more than 2 years). The only thing we would recommend is to wax the zipper from time to time, just like you would do for a dry suit.
My zipper failed after 5 trips. Pops open half way through and will not hold out water. Ortlieb will not honor their 5 year warranty and I've learned this bag has been discontinued. Likely due to zipper failures. Do not buy this bag unless you get a good clearance deal and are willing to get stuck with a bag which may only last a few trips.
So very sorry to hear that. We have been having a totally different experience. Used those bags for years none stop and still using it. No issue so far.
Utter junk. Zips keep busting. Ortlieb about as helpful as ash trays on a motorcylce. "5 year warranty" my foot. "Made In Germany". Avoid like the plague!
