Wrangell, Alaska Stikine River and Alpine Creek: Epic Boat Trip Day 1

Paxtiano Dirt Frog people say that it’s an awesome canoe trip. You should watch videos on canoeing the Stikine so that I’m not responsible for your death 😬 but they say that the trip down from Telegraph is totally doable. That slash line just marks the border as far as I understand; seems like they could have just put up a couple of signs, but maybe there’s more to it than I know. I didn’t take any pictures of inside the cabin because I was pretty distracted by the mosquitoes around the place, and we decided that it would have been better to camp out on our sandy island instead. That next video mostly will show our climb up Shakes Waterfall and it’s pretty darn cool!

A tractor is a good useful tool! The boat can come later. There were those cute little frogs everywhere and we had to be extra careful where we stepped. That was an amazing trip.

Thanks, that was a killer trip. Yeah, it’s a jet skiff so it can run in just a few inches of water as long as we’re going really fast. This is a typical boat that people here build just for the purpose of running up the Stikine River.

It is impressive for sure, could you tell me anything about Thoms Place area? I would like to buy a piece of ground in that area. Thanks

@@waynewoodward2313 Thoms is a nice area. There is no road system or services down that far on Wrangell Island. You have to own a boat because it’s a long trip up Zimovia Strait to town, and although the ride is usually fine during the summer, it can blow up and get sketchy during the winter. I’ve been there when there were lots of bugs during the summer, so there’s that. You would definitely want to visit before buying because there might be issues with boat access to the property etc.

More recently, we found another sandy island a little bit farther up the river by the Canadian border and we always hang out there now. It’s a great place to camp.

Yep, having a jet skiff is a must if you want to go up places like Alpine Creek 🌊
