Also Arthas was corupted by Frost Mourne, it wasn't just the crowns doing! The sword waped his mind and twisted the person he used to be so that the Crown could take full control over his body. Without the sword, controling the crown is difficult, but not immpossible.
Actually, Arthas wasn't entirely controlled by the sword or the crown...he still kept some part of his own personnality and ruled as a Lich King in a different way Ner'Zhul did before him and then Bolvar did after him : his main purpose was to turn every people of Azeroth into undead in order to resist and fight back against the Old Gods and the Burning Legion as well, which remained his main enemies all along, in fact...so it wasn't exactly pure evil just for free, because of these reasons and that's what made him so much interesting as a character, considering all the trials, the tests and hardships he had to face...
Wrath is by far my favorite wow expansion, I am partial to hunters but the death knight comes a very close second, I dont really see the lich king as a villain but more of an anti-hero.
Well you should have tell her some more sotriesi, like last movement of fight where Tirion Shattered the Frostmourne. Dranosh sarufang was in cinematic who died on wrathgate. Lanathel is there in cinematic who was killed in frozen throne invasion. Also life of Syndragosa and Malygos.

"end of the day there was still a lich king" That didn't age well. Interesting turn they took with the lich king in the upcoming expansion. Makes me kinda sad though
