After hours of side-by side testing, taking screenshots to see visual differences and measuring performance, I did a Steam guide for WRC 10's graphics settings, as there's a few settings that eat a DOZEN fps for no reason at all, probably due to poor programming. Texture filtering eats tons of frames, and it shouldn't, as it's a near-zero impact setting in all other games, labelled as "anisotropic filtering". Reflections eat a ton of frames too, but it makes much more sense there.
Hi, I know what you mean WRC 10 has bad settings. I was able to quite fix fps issues by disabling the game's post-processing filter, as that's what makes it consume fps like a locomotive. I am dedicated to applying reshade to all games to give it more immersion. So if you want, try the one I did for WRC10 and see if it improves your experience. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gH3NhQDKy_s.html&ab_channel=ULTRAGRAPHICSRESHADE
Nice summary Mike. I would like to add a major pluss(for me) to the WRC games, is that the world around the track is more filled inn. DR2.0 really feels like they put in all detail at 5 meters left and right of the track in most zones and when in replays it looks very weird. WRC while less detailed has a more realistic "horizon" view.
I’m so glad we have both games honestly… I love dirt rally 2.0 rallycross.. it’s amazing.. both games offer so much. And are so immersive…. They have become my go to for rally
damn people actually play rallycross? found it to be the most boring shit ever, driving a lame circle circuit for what feels like 50 rounds without any change
The problem with Dirt now is that E.A owns codemasters, so enjoy Dirt while you can because it’s going to go the same route as FIFA, heavily monetized.
No idea how is it in wrc 10 and its not been demonstrated here, but the car sounds in DR2 is just amazing, i've spend first 100 hours not even realising how COMPLETELY different each separate car sounds in different cameras, i always drive in cockpit view, then i decided to switch to the bonnet view and it was completely different, then i switched to 3rd person camera.. .again.. completely different sounds, you can hear the turbo, the exhaust which you couldn't hear in other views.. and then when you press a button to look back ... the car sound changes completely to new, they've recorded at least 4 different sessions for each car - its insane.
They're both good in their own way, I lean more towards DR2 because it's more fun with the dailies/weeklys but WRC has the real stages and a nice career mode.
I'll pay double the sticker price for loud aggressive snap crackles and pops any day. I don't care for better graphics moving forward. They both look great already. Focus on immersion cause physics for both is decent.
Yes, they should bring car damage back for example like the visual and technical part. Damage just seems to be very turned down in all latest racing games.
Just my two cents as far as driving experience; I think dirt 2.0 does a better job of simulating the feel of spinning tyres ontop of loose surface, digging it away to get to grippier stuff on the bottom, where as WRC feels like youre always skimming along very loose stuff with no way to find actual grip, maybe its all thanks to DR2.0’s better FFB model giving more details for the driving feel and making the gradient between loose and grip feel more predictable. Great video as always Mike.
yeah it's because the stages in WRC games are basically all the few iconic sections from a few stages at every location around the world, which allows them to cram all the best sectors into the stages in the game. DR2, on the other hand, has the real-life stages turn for turn. it's a more "authentic" experience, but it also means they might be slightly less exciting.
The extent to which Dirt Rally 2.0 is "realistic" is greatly overexaggerated by the fandom. Having driven rally cars IRL (the Clio Rally5), the Amount of grip one's getting on all surfaces in Dirt Rally is far too low. I think that people are just confusing difficulty with realism. WRC 10 offers much more natural and believable experience.
@@jacquesjtheripper5922 Most of them feel really rear-heavy in DR2, which is ok, for sthg. like a 5 Turbo or the A110, but not with the Audisport Quattro. I think DR2 does the older cars quite well altogether.
same here. its unfortunate. before i got vr i would have given wrc a chance, i mean i used to play dirt rally on a monitor in front of my wheel. but now i have vr. even though dr2.0 looks and performs terribly in vr. i cant play without it. vr is a must for sim racing going forward.
@@socks2441 DR2.0 runs great in VR for me. Both on my previous GPU/CPU combo - Ryzen 9 3900X + GTX 1080 + Rift CV1. And my current setup 5950X + RTX 3090 + Rift CV1
@@baccattack rift cv1 is low resolution, plus it's Oculus which is famous for having good performance in dr2.0, whereas steam vr/open VR is famous for bad performance, then on top of that wmr for some reason apparently has worse performance in DR2. 0 as well. My gpu (2070 super) should perform even better than your 1080 did, but obviously alot slower than your 3090.. Good to hear you have good performance though, hopefully they don't release a buggy steam vr version with dr3. 0 🤞🙂

I'm in the minority, but I just bought WRC10 as it was on sale and I wanted a good career mode. The driving experience in WRC10 is so much more natural feeling to me than when I tried DR2.0. I refunded that title a while ago as I honestly refuse to support an always online single player requirement and I didn't like Codies essentially DLCing all of DR1 into DR2 when it should have just released with the base game. WRC10 is def not perfect. Some of the pace notes are questionable, the sounds are pretty muted and lack oomph, racing in the rain and night is just down right unpleasant. The wipers don't seem to do much and the lack of lighting adjustment is inexcusable IMO. I'm going through the anniversary stuff right now and it's been a blast for the most part. If I had to guess neither title is super realistic, but for me WRC10 just feels natural to drive and is fun which is the most important part to me.
Well, right now they're selling all 4 DLC packs together for 20$ and the base game is dirt cheap too... so right now you can buy the whole game plus all DLCs certainly for less than 40$ and if you find it on sale even less... at some point I think it was on sale for 12 or 15$ along with the DLCs which is nuts... Anyway... DR2.0 is a much more enjoyable game if you don't have a racing wheel... I own WRC 9 and it's too damn twitchy on controller... and I say that while I'm a fantastic controller player... I achieve very good times in DR 2.0 on weekly and monthly challenges (in the top 300-500) Anyway, if you don't own both and you have to pick one, I would go for DR2.0 cause the driving feeling is 100% better... if you can own both and you have a driving wheel which is a must for WRC then go for both... without a racing wheel WRC feels clunky af, twitchy af, very very very annoying, you will never run good times and you'll get frustrated at how slow you have to go to keep your runs accurate and avoid damage (I like to get the car back in one piece, I hate seeing a banged up mess in the end)... Also, Tarmac rallying is 100% better on WRC cause everyone knows DR2.0 on Tarmac is a little bit worse than a turd on wheels... but personally I play rally games for gravel stages... Tarmac means nothing to me when I want to rally... if I want tarmac I go play F1 or Moto GP...
Coming from DR1 (and numerous older rally games) I found WRC8 to be "good enough" to be entertaining, but it required a lot of FFB tweaking and some car setup to reach a decent level of handling. Later I got DR2 and was blown away by how natural "like a real car" the handling and FFB felt out-of-the-box (at least on slippery surfaces). Recently I tried the demo of WRC10, and while it was definitely an improvement over WRC8 it still had a weird feel of the default FFB and wasn't even close to the natural behaviour of the cars in DR2. IMHO, of course. :)
Wrc got good career and fun gameplay, but lack of optimisation and vr makes me wanna spit. After trying dr2 in vr I think its a war crime to release rally slm wlthout vr support
i think you summarized my biggest problem with the wrc series perfectly. whats the point in getting invested in it that much if its just gonna be replaced in a year anyway. its like the call of duty of racing games. forza horizion is kinda like that but its every couple year which gives you time to get invested.
I think that wrc10's damage model is not more forgiving. It's only one scenario where it lacks, you can't dnf with a crash. Otherwise tyre-wear and part wear and tear is more unforgiving in wrc10. I've have both but i go with wrc10 because of better stages, more fun imo and the career mode. You also don't mention that DR2 is really empty when you first buy the game. You have to spend money on a lot of dlc's to get more stages and cars. WRC10 is more complete from the start allthough it has two dlc's. WRC10 will also get free updates later this year with new cars and stages.
WRC is like 4/5 across the board, while DR is 1/5 in some aspects, 5/5 in others and it just shows that they dont really know what they are doing as a team.
I enjoyed the comparison, my main issue with WRC is the screen tearing on series x, and the online multiplayer is pretty much awful. Stage design is a big plus for WRC Vs DR2
@@alebrasa it's not affecting every player, but I've seen many complaints over various platforms. I noticed it on some locations and it's fine on others
@@alebrasa definitely, and I agree with you in regards to the stages they are much better than Dirt, I'm still getting used to the difference in handling from WRC 9, but it's solid overall. By the way I run a cross platform championship if you're interested in taking part
Honestly the damage model is what got me hooked on BeamNG when I started playing race sims right after I got my G29. It was punishing af but it made it so much more fun and intense
@@laulen3448 True i also think its the most realistic simulator on the market in terms of physics and you have so much fun because you can do basically anything
I'll be sad if the WRC dev throws the towel next year. Loosing the liscence has an advantage of not having to pay money to WRC. So I hope they continue do a rally title no matter if the name was WRC or not.
DR 2 dislikes: Cannot save replays, sometimes following codriver notes sends you right into the trees or terminal damage. WRC 10: No VR? Stone-age? No kidding? Save my money.
@TL Racing GT - I know, or at least I thought so. :) - I guess the reason for wrong notes is that the algorithm for creating that notes doesn't take elevation into account. If you bretter up a hill with a bend following on top, you just cannot change direction while airborne. Hello trees! Plus, the notes don't seem to consider the momentum the car has after the previous turn - so the note would be okay if you enter the turn from a straight, but send you flying if you just left a bend. There's a "nice" place in Poland, making you kiss the trees just a few meters away from the finish line. :D And of course you're right: You need to make yourself at home with the track. Pace notes usually work fine with low speeds, but tend to offer you botanical experiences when the pedal meets the metal. ;)
Try to lock max limit framerates to 60 or 120 in Nvidia settings for WRC10, which for some reason doesn't like any other than multiples of 60s. Hope it helps with FPS.
The nuances with the co-drivers are one thing that makes me lean towards DR2.0. In Dirt, the Co-driver’s voice gets slightly more drawn out and higher pitched when you’re doing a risky maneuver. WRC’s co-driver sounds very robotic and tries to fit in weird random sounds and words, like “ow” and “yes”
WRC's co-driver sounds like they wanna be like fortnite lol But you know, they missed an opportunity to give sim racers what they want. The ability to make our own pacenotes. I speculate they probably made their own pacenote editor for an ease of development. That's why the co-driver sounds robotic. So why not turn that into a feature?
@@bookle5829 Because it would be so drawn out and boring, imagine doing all your own pace notes with a soundboard it would be incredibly tedious, imagine how broken it would be.
@@Long-Horse Boring? I'm not saying they shouldn't provide any pacenotes. I'm saying if the pacenotes they provided is a bit wrong, people can make changes a bit. Or they can make their own pacenotes for fun. Like RBR, the modded one.
@@bookle5829 i haven't played RBR is years, haven't played the modded version so I'm not sure what the pacenote creator is like, I find dirt rally 2 pacenote to be good some are questionable like some really tight 4s that they give you no forewarning for how tight it is, I find that Poland pacenote are totally different to everywhere else too it really throws me off.
@@יקיטבע The thing is, People who got the equipment can't play racing games without VR any more. It feels like when we made the step from 2D to 3D games in the 90s. And the number of VR users is only growing as it is becoming more affordable
The main reason that WRC isn't popular, is the yearly new releases. Most of us gamers don't want to repay the full price every year for a game that is slightly better.
I have both. So DR2.0 looks way better and is more realistic, and it’s waaay more unforgiving. WRC10 isn’t as polished and the handling model is a tiny bit more arcade like, but I think WRC has the better stages and the modern WRC cars feel amazing. Dirt does the classic cars a lot better though
Yh, pretty much this. And yes older cars are cool as hell in dr2. Plus the car sounds. Too bad kyloton cant figure out theircar sounds, although 10 seems to have improved a lot the older cars sounds.
I've played WRC 8 for hours it's a good rally game. WRC 10 is an improvement particularly with the handling and the anniversary mode is a nice addition. Despite the frustration Dirt Rally 2.0 brings at times because it certainly is the more difficult rally game I'd say the driving feels more satisfying and intense than WRC 10. Another thing the Car sounds in the WRC games leave alot to be desired and much better in Dirt Rally 2.0. I'd say they are both worth it but Dirt Rally 2.0 a bit better for me.
Both are cheap now so I’d say buy both. Both have their pros and cons and both are decent games. I lean slightly towards WRC 10 as I much prefer the stage design and career mode.
Having been a longtime fan of the comic Ray and subsequent dirt series, I had played so much of them that I found the difference in worst to be refreshing and equally engrossing. Hey felt as though the courses nwrc had a bit more of an organic and varied feel to them, but this evening after an extended session with wrc10, I played dirt rally and then dirt rally 2.0 and I have been reminded how excellent both of those games are, respectively, with dirt rally 2.0 having such a polished look and feel to the graphics, sound design and presentation. I am really looking forward to building back into dirt rally 2.0 soon! I can't wait until psvr2 and the rally and racing games otherwise that we will have to look forward to, having really enjoyed dirt rally with the first psvr.
I like them both on sale. Pros: Dirt Rally 2 - graphics -speed -gravel handling -rallycross WRC: -stages -tarmac handling -career mode -adjustable difficulty
What about Dirt 4 for a beginner fun seeker? Seen somewhere that it's much better compared to Dirt 2.0 and WRC 10 for a beginner + the experience is awesome. Is this correct? I do not have a wheel or pedals to use. Just laptop. Thanks a lot!
Play WRC 10 on a PS5 with a rig with bass shakers, surround sound and a Fanatec wheel and all the complaints and negatives melt away. Its a sublime experience. DR2 can't compare on the PS5 side (I own both games). As far as graphics go on the PlayStation side DR2 is a decent looking PS4 game. WRC 10 is a decent looking PS5 game. Who would choose a decent looking PS4 game over a decent looking PS5 game if most of the other aspects are similar? Pretty much no one.
I'd rather take DR2.0, that whole career management bs isn't what I'm playing a racing sim for, I'm plying a racing sim to race, not manage a whole team, I'm the driver not the manager

I have both and dirt rally 2 is great in vr but i getting bored of the stages, wrc has more content and theres something more raw with the cars that i like, also it harder to get puntures.in dirt rally 2 i seem to get punctures for just skimming some things
Rally cars rarely use 900 degrees rotation IRL, it would be wayyy to difficult to make those quick transitions, I believe the average rotation on most rally cars is 540 degrees.
@@rambam21 in dirt rally 2.0 you can set the soft lock to match the cars in the options, so every car will have a realistic degrees of rotation. Lot of the older cars are in fact 900, took me quite a while to get used to after changing it from my default 540...
I refunded 10 due to same old performance issues and I'm not touching anything KT engined until they fix their shit. If 10 had performed like DR 2.0 it would have been an awesome experience. Now it's just frustrating.
For me dr2 had performance issue too, I figured out it's the "foliage" setting causing this. If I set it to anything higher than lowest then my fps was 30 or even 20, when set on lowest my fps suddenly 100 on average. Is this some kind of a bug? I don't understand how can this setting have such a high impact when only visual difference between lowest and the highest is that the grass grows slightly more dense and that's about all.
I myself really enjoyed Dirt and when they brought out Dirt 2.0 it was brilliant then came WRC 9 took me a while to dial in realistic force feedback on my TGT wheel once i had again i really enjoyed WRC 9 especially the stage designs was almost like setting off on an epic journey stages were very long which i thoroughly enjoyed so when the first next gen WRC 10 game come out i thought this would be the icing on the cake !! the handling and physics were much improved but was very disappointed in the graphics just really not consistent enough but the cockpit view in both dirt 2.0 and wrc 10 are so different i find in Dirt 2.0 the tracks/stages seem quite wide and very realistic where as the stages on Wrc 10 seem narrow and the overall view is just not as big as dirt 2.0 ?? i find myself playing dirt 2.0 more than wrc 10 to be honest im using a TGT wheel with thrustmaster load cell pedals on a gt omega rig using PS5 Console simrig is set up in front of LG 65" Nano cell TV with 2.1 hdmi sockets perhaps you can change the FOV on wrc 10 to look more like Dirt 2.0 in cockpit view ??
Hey Mike, have you tried DR 2.0 on PS5 as well? I really love the new PS5 Controller for more casual couch racing. But afaik DR 2.0 has not been patched at all for the new gen consoles. So maybe the new context sensitive triggers on the PS5 pad are not even supported. Any ideas?
Hey Stephan! I haven’t had a chance to try it on PS5. But i believe you’re 100% correct that the added features of the latest Gen of consoles wouldn’t be supported on a game this old

Dirt rally 2 would be the perfect rally game in my view if the cars slid around slow bends better instead of bogging down. The physics on the fast bendy sections is awesome though. I just feel like theres too much grip on gravel when you power slide the cars around slow bends.
@@nothing2see315 Yes. I think Codies will change grip levels on gravel in their next Dirt Rally game. My criticism of the original Dirt Rally was that the cars felt weightless, and they fixed that problem when they brought out Dirt Rally 2.0
@@Tony-1971 I have to clutch kick it sometimes around slow corners so I might have to agree with you, now that I think of it I didn’t have to do that In DR1 I could throttle up and down when needed.
@@nothing2see315 Agreed. Apparently though rally drivers do sometimes clutch kick in modern rally cars to get the revs up. Ive seen it done in an on-board WRC vid, on gravel. Id have linked you the vid im talking about, but youtube would probably delete my reply to you. The vid was titled, 'Sordo onboard rally Argentina 2018 Parque Tematico stage from WRC 8.' You can see him clutch kick on a really slow bend. Dirt Rally 2 is awesome, but there's always room to improve the physics and tyre model.
My biggest problem with WRC9 was the inconsistency with way rally stages were done. I see no change in WRC 10 there, so I am not interested in getting it at all. Some of the rallies like Monte Carlo, Mexico, Argentina, Japan were incredible, I didn`t ever use my wheel setup, but I would just have fun on a controller. Those stages are technical, narrow and you have to pay attention. At the same time some stages like Sweden and Finland look like they are taken out of some mobile arcade - they are way too wide and are nowhere near accurate in that respect. Its nearly impossible to make mistakes on any of those stages - heck, you dont even have to listen to co-driver to make it to the end. Dirt Rally 2 is a lot more consistent there and Finnish stages are some of the best, same with Sweden.
I really like DiRT 2.0 except the tarmac stages. But I don't think it has bumpy roads like this. Of course there are lots of crests and bumps but I believe it's not compareble with these. It looks more realistic in my opinion. 6:35
A short message for people who don t know what to play and want full imersive experience. Try RBR and you will forgot everything else. 100gb with stage ,cars and unforgettable psyhics.
I have the ps5 version of wrc 10. And dirt 2 on ps4. I am using a g29 wheel. I find the physics floaty on dr2. And more grounded on wrc 10. So I prefer wrc 10
I have same setup as u, ps4 with g29, and dr2 and wrc8. Both work great, except for lack of polish in wrc, and sound levels are a mess, with loud smallest hit on road side, and menu sound effects, but u can barely hear the good road contact sound effects, and no options to set each effect volume sadly, plus car engine exhaust are bad in wrc. Im thinking to get wrc10 now on sale on ps4, 20bucks, hoping it runs not worse than 8.
@@jacquesjtheripper5922 They improved the physics on WRC 9 onwards. WRC10 has some destructive environments on top. Never really thought about the sound. If you are happy to spend $20, you should. Even with low budget contoller player, DR2 more fun and have better handling compare to wrc 10, cuz it spin A LOT only with minimal input when i use controller, only love wrc car model since thats the game represntative of wrc. Hope dirt can acquire wrc license near future
Wow this is surprising. I couldn't disagree more on the recommendation to get the PS5 version over the PC version of WRC10. The PS5 versions has horrible tearing!!! To the point that some people find it unplayable. I'm running the PC version highest detail settings 1080p and getting 65-85fps on my Asus G14 laptop. I have also tried the PS5 and series X versions at a friend's house. Both games are great and offer different things so buy them both. For a true WRC fan that wants the real drivers/cars/stages/liveries obviously WRC is the way to go. If you don't want or care about that and just want a good rally game, dirt 2.0 is a great game too. Damage modeling may be better on Dirt Rally but your tire choices in WRC play a huge role and being able to mix and match tires is pretty cool. Tire choice is basically not even a requirement in dirt.
Or multi-projection. Neither of these titles fully support triple monitors. Which when it comes to racing sims, is borderline criminal. Virtually every one worth playing has multi-projection. But not the rally sims...
Yeah I'm no programmer or anything but it cant be that much work to at least get it working. If your game does take off modders can do the rest (just look at content manager for AC or the fully molded VR support for Richard burns rally.)
My problem with DR 2.0 on Xbox S is that the graphics are poor. Smudgey and low resolution. WRC 9 (don't have 10) is way better but so also is Dirt 1.0, which is my preferred rally title (good career mode, good car selection and it has Pikes Peak!).
Personally, the biggest factor for me and the reason I like WRC is the feel, the wheel FFB feels leagues better than dirt, like not even on the same level honestly.
which wheel are you using? I' use TSPC, the ffb feels numb in WRC10, and it lose ffb completely occasionally, I have to pause the game to make ffb work again.
WRC 10 for newbies? I got WRC 9 and stopped playing because I find it too difficult even when trying different recommended wheel settings (but the force feedback was amazing compared to Dirt 4). Heard Dirt Rally 2 was easier but you are saying the contrary O.o
@@rikoflishas hope u enjoy it. Edit: if u prefer start easy, try front wheel drive cars 1st maybe. But rear wheel drive ones are most fun for me, although they are all fun. Im thinking to get wrc 10 now on sale on psn for ps4. Cheers
One of the biggest dissapointements in WRC 10 is that they have used the exactly same engine sounds for all the cars. For example: All the WRC cars have the exact same engine sound, they have used one single sound and put them into all the wrc cars......Ive noticed that and this is shocking stupid....
Wrc looks wayyyyyy better than 2.0 bro. 2.0 looks old at this point. Its why i tend to play wrc now more. The damage models for 2 are better but it looks so dated compared to wrc. That 120 hz is amazing. But 2 has wayyyy more realistic sounds. The exhaust notes on 2 are amazing. I think they should make a dirt 3.0 for the new consoles and then i think it will trump wrc. But till they get better graphics in dirt.... im running a 4k 120hz monitor on xbox.

I've been playing at lot of WRC 10 lately and I love it. However, the graphics are still AWFUL and I have a stupidly high-end machine. Things pop in and out and just don't look great.
personally i like dirt rally 2.0 more because playing wrc 10 on xbox one is hell. terrible graphics, not realistic speed, rallies that arent even in the wrc calender, same roads every year, monte carlo (way too hard), night stages, power stages being at night, epic stages that are just 2-3 stages combined, lack of stages (too many reversed stages) and thats pretty much it
WRC 10 works horribly on base PS4, massive input lag because of forced vsync and 30fps just sucks. Played PC version by comparison and i was nearly a minute faster on PC...
