The final round of 1996 World Rally Championship. Tommi Mäkinen already confirmed his title in Australia and would now claim it after the rally. Subaru would claim the manufacturers' title after Colin McRae and Piero Liatti fought hard and finished first and second by only a few seconds separating them. Bruno Thiry finished 3rd second time in a row.
