The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. Rally drivers are different breed, unlike any other race drivers. A F1 driver sees one corner 10 thousand times, Rally driver sees 10 thousand corners just once.

Nah, we need something like Moto One or Scorpion Masters but for drivers. Both events tried to find the perfect motorbike rider by making them compete in circuit racing, motocross, supermoto, enduro, trials and even stunting. We need the same... but with drivers. · Rally-raid (buggies?) · Karting (125cc karts) · Rallycross (RX Lites) · Drifting (style points) or Gymkhana (time attack) · 4x4 trials (stock modified) · Circuit racing (Porsche Cup or EuroNASCAR)

Diego Ruiz there is Race of champions held in the end of the year. Its not exactly like what you mention but its driver from multiple discipline compete with different type of cars. It's indoor though

It's all in asphalt, the course is too short... My proposal would be expensive but very very cool. You just need 6-8 cars of each kind and some could be used in 2-3 disciplines.

Formula 1 doesn't need more good drivers, rally needs them! In F1, almost always the best car wins, in rally the driver is the most importan variable.

Fergutor Not really. Even the drivers will tell you the car matters most (as is always the case in motorsport), but in rally, the driver matters more compared to other racing series.

Dude, Sebastien Loeb beat WRC cars with Super 1600 car...Do you think that would be possible with the same pilots and the same cars but on circuits? Rally is not like other motorsports, you should know that. And when rally drivers talk about the importance of speed of a car is when they're sure the other guy is as their level, and they're pushing at amximun, and the setup is right while not knowing how right is the other guy's setup...

Just shows you why Kubica is such a great driver. Yeah he made some rookie mistakes, but when he didn't he was competitive against the best drivers in WRC. I'm certain Ogier would make mistakes in F1 for the first few years. Let's not forget Kubica's physical limitations and car problems which made it that much more difficult for him.

I will. He was able to win stages, rarely, but still he managed to get stage wins on tarmac, gravel, even snow, which proves his ability to be competitive by itself. Countless times he'd occupy higher places 2nd thru 5th at the end of a stage. All that during the time when then first 3 spots were practically reserved for VW since other factory cars could barely compete, let alone a privateer Fiesta. You can't deny the pace was there. It was his lack of experience which caused him to make the mistakes he did. I'm sure he'd get even better was he able to stay in WRC for few more years. I'm sure his pacenotes would become more refined and his ability to avoid crashes would improve. To support my opinion I'll link up an article. Most rally drivers would manage to drive a lap, relatively fast, in an F1 car. Most F1 drivers wouldn't even make the first corner in a rally stage.

Do you honestly believe that, no rally driver is going around Spa 44 times. Rallying drivers are super impressive but by the time they learn how to properly handle that car for that long, a F1 driver could certainly learn how to a competitive time around a rally track imo

@@omgHeadshots This shows that you have no clue about what rallying is. Lewis Hamilton would never be able to even get close to a competitive time at any rally stage. Vargåsen (A 10km Rally Sweden stage) is driven on snow, ice and gravel and the avg speeds exceed 120km/h. Over Colins Crest, the cars are going past 180km/h (In WRC cars it's sometimes past 200km/h because they have 380hp in comparison to the WRC2 cars that "only" has 280hp). Some F1 tracks can fit well over 5 cars (sometimes more) in width but most rally stages can barely fit 2 rally cars width. Combine a narrow track, with little to no track knowledge (you get to drive one time up and down the track to go through pace notes and that's it, before you go out there to race), constantly changing road conditions with potholes, bumpy terrain, loose surfaces and the slightest mistake by the co-driver might get you killed. If he says "5 right" instead of "3 right" you're either going to end up through a guard rail, tumbling down a mountain a few hundred meters or you're going to hit a tree at 150km/h. If you're luck there won't be any spectators lining the track there and you might even survive. Luckily this happens very rarely these days and most accidents are because of drivers mesing up the timing because if you turn 0.1 seconds too late you're most likely going to end up off track. An F1 car is harder to drive, yes, but it takes a lot longer to get good at rallying than at becoming competitive in F1.

I think it's safe to say that a rally driver in an F1 car would do better than an F1 driver in a rally car. In fact a race of F1 drivers trying to race a rally would probably be funny as f. Boom!!!! Lol (good part of the reason why I think rally drivers are the best drivers in the world)

McLarenHonda Are you mad? Kimi Raikkonen didn't have a good time in WRC. Sébastien Loeb though, he went in an f1 car and was already setting good times. Granted, he is one of the best Rally drivers and probably one of the best racing drivers of all time, but the point still stands.

McLarenHonda Also, in Rally it is much harder to keep the car on the roads and gravel at the limit. They are always sideways because they have less grip, so it is much harder to maintain a good line and drift on gravel as they could easily go off if they go a bit too fast.

If there is one thing you shouldn't do it's underastimating F1 drivers. The only difference between rally drivers and most F1 drivers is the balls. In the WRC there are plenty of them.

Difference beetwen average f1 driver and WRC driver In Rally you need to focus on road, to not hit tree, to not hit people, remember about speed on bumbs, set uping car on turns. Meanwhile at F1 you can just repeating "Bono, my tyres are gone" and you have 7 championship

Yes for sure 100%!! Raikkonen who was a world F1 champ when he switched to WRC did not managed to finish at a better place than 5th overall on a rally (wich is honorable) with the best car a the time! But good on him to have he balls to try WRC
