I did a jb weld job on a 1973 Suzuki tc125 back in the 80s, busted the clutch side housing, you could put an apple in the hole. Took what was left and jb weld to the rescue. It worked and lasted years with no problems and no leaks! That stuff is like vibranium!
I hear exactly what you're saying, Brandon. Harbor Freight sells stuff called "Alumiweld" which comes in sticks. You heat up the parent pieces and lay this stuff along the crack and it sucks it right into the damaged area. I reattached some forward foot controls on my bike and they are strong as hell. I weld, but I don't have the equipment to Aluminum weld. I hope this info helps you in the future. Peace. Eric in Kissimmee.
I thought about alumiweld after researching brazing. Was gonna try that since it’s similar to solder. I left it alone since it involved the bottom end. 😅
I might seriously have gone down that rabbit hole of learning to weld. Figure it’s a skill I am going to need if I keep working on bikes anyway. Glad you found someone to do it though.
OMG! I went through the same thing, they think you don't know anything they try to get over on you. I was lucky to run into a welder at my job that I didn't know and he welded my GSXR case for nothing. End of the week I bought him a 6 pack
really proud of the way you took care of that and for not being played like a fool. i think you are doing an amazing job with this rebuild. you must be learning a tons about these bikes. your doing big things.
BB-Why do I hear ‘The Miracles’ singing ‘Shop Around’ in the background? Seriously, use your Dremel and a small wire brush wheel if you want it polished, but damn it looks ready to go from out here in ‘Tube’ land. Journey on!
Wow !!!! As usual you've did your research and came up with a solution ! A hearty Well Done ! My question is if you get it back together and it still leaks ? Then what ? I'll keep watching for the answer
If it leaks again, it’ll get torn apart and I will figure it out. I can put the case back together and fill it with oil to find that out sooner though. Before putting the cylinders back on.
🤔✌🇺🇸 I'm optimistic but I do understand sometimes just got to pull the trigger and go with what you can get. I hope it all works out I love watching the channel and learning these things.
Great video, but if you can definitely learn to weld it will open up more opportunities for buying damaged bikes ! Good job keep these videos coming 👌👍
I've been following your videos on the cracked case. I'm glad that you had found someone to weld up your case that was affordable. I have a question though. At the 6:51 mark, is that a crack just below left of the journal? That looks like an oil galley to me, but I don't know the architecture of these motors so i couldn't tell what it is unless i had one in my hands. I had noticed this crack in your last video, but thought that I was just seeing things because of the lighting. If that is a crack you're going to lose oil pressure through that crack. As always I enjoy your video. I'll be lookin out for your next video.
@@BrandonBicasso Yup, as someone that’s been welding for about 30 years, what he said is not true unless you are the worlds worst welder and you put way more heat to it than needed.
@@TwoWheeledHepkat Yeah, it's not that I didn't trust myself, but you both are right. JB Weld would've worked best for my skill level. I wouldn't have touched that case without feeling confident enough to tack a decent weld on. That was way too far into the case for a mess up.
Your story Brandon is the same all over the World. When you need a specialist to do a job this can open up to be very painful financially. That guy who first quoted you 2k then dropped it to $500 ( not dropping it by $500 ) tells me he would still be making a decent profit. These people think we are all mugs and that we don’t know what something really costs to do. Even the guy that did it for you for $100 is probably still making a profit, but he is also thinking about return custom. As you said it’s a non pressure area and you don’t care what it looks like as long as it does the job. You couldn’t have had a worse place to have the cracks, but the professionalism of the finished job is worth every penny you paid. These things are sent to try us and try us they do lol.
As someone who's done Tig welding, you really didn't want to do that yourself. Aluminum is easy to burn through if you aren't careful. (No I'm not a professional welder). I've had guys do some welding for me in the past, I've never had one want to charge me half of it's value.
Yeah the $2k guy was playing you. Probably would have done a bad job too. It's good he showed his true colors, and he didn't start with $250. You may have went with it and he may have ruined your part too
