Taker had history with not just Dwayne, but also Paul and Roman (Paul being in Brock's corner at WrestleMania 30 and Roman being the second ever Mania loss Taker had at WrestleMania 33) as well as history with the Rhodes family (Dusty in particular). Plus, Taker was always seen as a leader of the locker room. And while Dwayne calls himself the Final Boss, everyone knows the true Final Boss, especially at WrestleMania, will always be the Deadman.

that ending was sooooooo freaking hype! funny story, so moms was cooking dinner, called me down, I was like, no, lemme take this on my phone cause I do not wanna miss all this, good thing I did, left just as John came out, then walking down stairs when the shield theme dropped, I was like, who is this? no they did not get Mox here. that callback to the authority turn was genius, I was like, roman, dick move. you was almost there, but my boy Cody finna give it to you and finish the story, and Samantha crying? That's actually a gripe of the fans. They complained because a nostalgia act was going to take the place of the match and outcome the fans have been waiting a year to see. They made their voices heard and the WWE pivoted to include nostalgia in the main event rather than be the focus of the main event.
