The best thing about Corbin vs Steveson is that in the weeks after the match, Corbin started saying that he retired 2 Olympic Gold Metalists (Angle & Steveson) and he got cheered for a few weeks

@@diabeticman2194 It is weird how he, like Ziggler before him, was able to drop into what is effectively the AA "league" of WWE and become just a great presence that is somehow both a top threat and effectively putting over new guy so well. Say what you will about Deadline, Dragunov looked like a guy who was fighting to keep his title and earned that retention against an opponent who was a legit threat to take it from him.

I think most of the bad matches this year actually went unnoticed because it happened in the weekly tv and most were forgettable. Which compared to other years, it’s great for wrestling that we can’t really remember the bad matches because there was so much good the entire year round

Yeah, also compare how "easy" this list used to be in previous years and how hard the other, positive ones were (especially pre-2021). Wrestling's literally better than it's ever been, regardless of what style one likes.

The actual worst matches are the ones most people didn't even see. Like TNA and AEW dark stuff. The Cody Roman match at 10 is crazy, shouldn't even be on the list

@@freddied8479 There were some real stinkers in the G1 Climax Block matches. Tanga Loa and Okada had a *three star match*!!! For Okada that's like getting out of bed and then immediately falling down a flight of stairs.

How anyone can say it's worse than the army of the dead lumberjack match is genuinely concerning. Preist and Miz were both in the US title scene priest might've actually been champion in that match. And it happened on PPV. Ple whatever. Majority had to pay to see that match and even at $9.99 it's still too expensive.

The way that I saw Cody/Roman... It was a perfect match, and a PERFECT homage to Dusty Rhodes. Cody got to do his father's finish. I think this was no different than Flair/Dusty or Race/Dusty. It was an old school finish on a damn near perfect match. I loved it.

Imagine if Cody won the title and then Brock went at him because of the title and Jey/roman at summerslam could have been solely for the chieftain. I get why they wanted Roman to get past 1000, but that would have been so much more logical.

Brock needed Cody to win the title so that he can go after him. Him Being Beasty Brock and breaking Cody's Arm makes no sense if Cody has the title. Why would he be angry at Cody like that if Cody won?

Baron Corbin/Gable Steveson is my vote for the worst match, you can’t find a worse debut match tbh. Miz/Shane and Snoop is a match I honestly love, the funniest match of the year. Cargil/Statlander (DoN), Cole/Jericho (DoN), Rousey/Baszler (Summerslam) and MJF/White (Full Gear) also get my vote

Luke was right, Jeff Hardy v Jeff Jarrett at Fight for the Fallen in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Deathmatch was GREAT STUPID FUN!!!! I was laughing my ass of the entire time!! Yes, the match is terrible. But it has a bunch of nonsense and had no stakes outside of winning a belt that means nothing. I agree with Luke, Jeff Jarrett should be the belt collector of crazy weird movie/video game tie in belts that mean nothing. LUKE IS RIGHT!!! Jeff Hardy v Jeff Jarrett is ACTUALLY GOOD!!!!

Yeah, it was never meant to be a good match (like how a lot of hilarious B movies were never meant to be good). Was it the greatest comedy match or movie tie-in? Nah, but it was a lot better than some other comedy matches or tie-ins (exhibit A: the zombie match that was played 100% seriously...). I personally enjoyed it, it made me laugh, and I could never consider it a worst match of the year (likewise with Shane/Miz; that brought me too much laughter to hate)

Yes, Mick Foley the person did some crazy stuff, but that's not on the same level as bouncing back from being blown up (R-Truth), falling off a skyscraper (Big Show), being hit by a train (Mickie James) or, yes, being eaten by zombies and turning up later like nothing happened.

Nah nah Roman vs Cody was a FANTASTIC match! Just because the finish wasn't good that doesn't mean the other 40 mins get flushed down the toilet. I still disagree with the finish and the outcome, but I can't be the only one who thought the match slapped. I will die on this absolutely insignificant hill.

Ranking Roman v Cody as the 10th worst match of the year is ridiculous. You are trying to tell me that the technically sound, incredibly built and emotionally thrilling half an hour main event was the TENTH WORST MATCH of 2023? I know Cody winning made sense to a lot of people, hell I really wanted to see it too. But calling the match the tenth worst match of the year is incredibly uncalled for. I respect all opinions no matter how much I disagree with them but I just really do not think that this match can even be considered as a “bad match” let alone one of the worst ones of the year.

DEFINITELY was not the right call. Roman is cold and the bloodline went from top of the wrestling world to an afterthought because Roman doesn’t show up to work. The entire bloodline storyline since mania would have been better without the titles anyway and now they’re just stalling Cody and Roman with nothing feuds until a whole other year passes just to get them to rematch.

Standard whatever Roman Reigns match. Standard whatever ref bump. But then it makes three of the top guys all look weak when Roman kicks out of a triple finisher combo. Then to top it all Solo comes back to interfere after getting ejected, and there was zero follow up. Part of what makes pro wrestling work is the rules that viewers believe the wrestlers have to work within. One of them being, what the referee says goes. If the ref sends you to the back, you stay in the back. But now that rule clearly doesn’t exist, which not only makes the ejection in this match stupid, but devalues any time in the past or going forward that someone gets ejected. Tl;dr match was bad because it broke a fundamental rule of the sport with no follow up. Is it top ten worst of the year? In a vacuum maybe not? Is it really bad and deserves to get called out? Yes.

Cody vs Roman shares some parallels with the exploding barbwire deathmatch Mox and Omega had. Both were main events to flagship events, both oddly enough happened in the spring, both had an ending that soured fans in the entire match, and yet, both got 4.5 stars from WON. Fans of Mania night 2 main event now know how fans of that deathmatch felt when the sparklers and streamers went off instead of something cool.

Hard agree. Like, the John Cena/Austin Theory match had a bad build up and it did nothing for Austin Theory, but as a match, it's just decent. How anyone can say it's worse than Tyrus and EC3 - a match where one of the wrestlers was practically immobile - is beyond me. EC3 would've had a better match with a broom.

Everyone at the wrestle talk offices from the guys we see on screen to writing articles on the website, the channels moderators, fans of the channel and numerous other content creators voted for this list. Either you’re outside of the majority opinion or you’re not on the right channels for your own taste, can’t really blame them for not sharing your subjective opinion given A it’s subjective and B clearly the minority of their audience share such a view, why alienate the masses to satisfy the few?

I haven't watched every promo he's done but that's what I like about MJF from what I've seen. Regardless of all the other stuff he says, he definitely builds up his opponent's achievements, which makes it seem like a big deal when he beats them.

In retrospect, it was probably not entirely fair to Jey Uso to have him in nothing but tag matches for years and years and then suddenly think he was just gonna flip a switch and be able to do a main event summerslam 30 minute world title singles match. He pulled it off in an empty arena where it was all in ring acting, but this was another animal entirely

That was not Jey’s fault at all. That was WWE going back on the match’s stipulation and having interference. Jey is a fantastic wrestler and has flourished as a singles star.

I still to this day believe they should’ve had Jey win the championship at summerslam clean, then go on a slow turn to corruption and become worse than Roman ever was, turning on his brother at Survivor Series in a brutal attack that puts him on the shelf for a couple months before the royal rumble where he returns in Jey vs Orton and costs Jey the Title setting up the USOs mania match and setting up Orton vs Cody for mania to finish Cody’s story, which to me can be a better story than Cody vs Roman

I popped like an idiot when Shane McMahon returned, I popped like an idiot when he instantly tore his quad after one move, and I popped like an idiot when Snoop ran in and desperately did anything he could to try and salvage it. I was continuously so hyped from the moment Shane came out to the moment Miz left

Gable Steveson is the prime example of why you shouldn't label someone as the next "insert name here". WWE hyped that man up as the next Kurt Angle,one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Steveson was destined for failure,and the fact that Corbin was treated as the babyface was all the proof you need for that

Nah the prime example of that law is that Boudreaux guy that got the "next Brock Lesnar" billing, then got paired with Joe Gacy in NXT, released, turned up in AEW, almost got a top role next to Swerve until they realized how bad he was, and then got scrapped in favor of Gates of Agony.

It's a pure 5-star CLASSIC,from technical point-of-view to the storytelling to sudden shifts & turns to the crowd,it was a perfect match,barring the result.But,just RESULT doesn't make a match bad!!!

Oh my worst match was that Tyrus vs EC3 match. I was watched that match out of morbid curiosity, and to say I was astonished people had to pay money to see that is the understatement of a lifetime. Tyrus as champion and that match really tanked any credibility NWA and Billy Corgan as promoter had. The cocaine bit was the cherry on top of NWA’s shitshow of a year.

Maybe you could do it without the WM IV tournament, or make the whole tournament an entry in and of itself, but there is probably a list to be made closer to that time of wrestlers who have had multiple Mania matches in the same night/year. When you start out the year in a Full Metal Mayhem barn burner against Impact World Champion Josh Alexander, you can only go down from there. I though the Busted Open match with Dreamer at Sacrifice was a decent enough throwback brawl.

10: get over it 9: it was a tough one to watch but it's one of those matches that should have been a cinematic match to truly be good. I agree with Dan, his creativity wasn't translated well with those in the back. 8: here's a match that proves that anything can go wrong in the ring. But the cover by Miz and Snoop deserves more respect. 7: this was a typical Roman match. Yawn. Roman's matches are more of the storyline than the actual matches and they screwed up the story too. Lest we forget we still lost our collective minds on the Jimmy turn. 6: x vs Tyrus this whole year could make this entire list 5: this match wasn't bad as much a sit was boring and didn't achieve anything. Ok wait that's a bad match.. lol. 4: silly fun gone wrong. It was ok if you consider it was a promotional match for a movie but it was bad in the bigger picture. 3: this was soo bad. What was even the point? It was very out of place. Dan: the match where people voted for was chris Jericho vs Paul Heyman. I believe it was the last match where wwe collected votes for a match. 2: Gable is the worst. Imagine having a match with the most hyped up man in your company vs the most reliable man you can rely on.. and this was the result. Shame on wwe. 1: thus was so boring omg. This wasn't going to be the best but the story should have carried it. Nevermind

I was at the event that #1 was at. And I can in my area of the crowd about 50% left during the match. No one knew what the fuck that the match was supposed to be.

Tyrus being a world champion was a travesty. Theory vs. Cena was a waste of time. Shayna got NOTHING out of beating Ronda.

Cody vs Roman was built to be amazing. The whole hype had that Austin vs Rock Wrestlemania XV feel to it. You have Roman, who like his cousin Dwayne, was feeling himself and over confindent. You got Cody, who like Austin, was going against absolutly everything The Bloodline threw at him. Everything was pointing to Cody winning the belts. As we know, it didn't go down like that.

Some of their WWE picks seemed more disappointing then bad matches. Jey vs Roman wasn’t bad it just wasn’t aa great as expected. By no means is it one of the worst matches of the year same with Roman/Cody. Bad and disappointing are two different things.

If a movie or show is well acted but the story is bad, it’s still a bad movie or show. The same logic can and imo should be applied to wrestling matches.

Tyrus was only on here once and it was middle-ish of the list. And that is the true crime here. Also yes Roman-Cody deserved to be here, or 11, the ending was THAT bad. Also also, I agree with Luke, the Leatherface match was so unhinged I had a ton of fun by the end and wouldn't have had it in my top 10 lol Holy crap I forgot about the worked MMA match...

Ronda Rousey's Vlog where She complained about not even needing to do Wrestling but getting booed anyway left an aftertaste of her inability to face the media after her UFC loss to Holly Holm There was a repeat in being unable to work through the adversity™ in a professional way and the Fans both in MMA and in Pro wrestling aren't welcoming to people who are actually upset if things don't go their way while showing a perceived unwillingness to put in the work to get better Ronda is an incredible Martial Artist and able to make even the safer variations used in pro wrestling look realistic, but it seems like the pressures of the entertainment industry might be holding her back

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the Adam Cole Vs Chris Jericho match should of been the Mixed tag match from the start. That way you get: Adam Cole beats Chris on PPV, Brit beats Paige on PPV (avenging her lose to her earlier) And it could of been a No DQ match. Save the non sanctioned matches for the lights out stuff they used to do.

The Texas Chainsaw match was literally the best it could've been given what it was. Arguably it was better, considering tie-in matches are here to stay, this is probably the best one!
