In this video we show:
-Right D, active toolbar
-Sizing Return Grilles based on velocities (ACCA)
-Return Grille Selection
We have two options when selecting Return Grilles. One is with filter for which we use 300 fpm and the other one is without a filter having a velocity of 400 fpm. This is to take into account the noise it might produce. In addition, we size the return duct based on what ACCA recommends.

Great video. I came across your channel the other day and have enjoyed watching your videos. I like the hvac design topics and find them useful. Great job of explaining things and keep up the good work.

At 9:32 you say the returns are associated with supply registers? Why are returns associated with supply registers? Are they not independent of each other? I ask because on the 'Supply Branches for Entire House' page, you have to connect ST to RB and it is confusing me. Thanks.

Thanks for your comment. The Return is associated with the supply register for the program. In other words, we need to account for how much cfm the return will have. For example, 800 cfm of Supply Air (SA) and if the house has only 1 register, it would all go to RA 800cfm (1 return for all the register in the house) If we have two return grilles, we need to see the amount of cfm each has. That is when we associate (we don't connect) register to return grilles. Let me know your thoughts.

Oh I see, thank you for the information. Unfortunately the issue wasnt with the assoication, but the velocity. On the Supply Branches for Entire House page, the velocity is set to 0 because the duct diameter is set to 0. Even with automatic sizing tuned ON, it is still set to 0. @@hvaceasymath

Sounds good. Add a diameter, for example 6" and see how it goes. Sometimes when the duct is not connected well to the register it shows as velocity 0. Perhaps it could also be a glitch. "Supply Branches for Entire House is a good way to verify our velocities and they should be within ACCA Manual D ranges.
