They played psychodelic, progressive, jazz, blues, funk, classic, acid and of course hard rock music. After listening to all known band of that time, there is no doubt for me who was the most talented and creative. These guys. And faked musical critics can go to hell.
As producer Martin Birch said ... and he would “know” .... “Deep Purple were the best at what they did .... without a shadow of a doubt”. They broke up in the year they were the biggest selling band on the planet ... 1973.
That was fucking beautiful bro I couldn't say better myself I've been trying to tell people for years the same thing they could go out on stage tanked up on alcohol n still kick ass on most groups they were the Vikings of rock there's a famous Ritchie qoute he once said there's a misconception that I refuse to play with other guitarist it's not me it's because they know I will blow them off the stage 🎸
To add to the vastly underrated underplayed fusion of hard rock, classical, jazz, baroque JL big Bach fan, Medieval-RB, psychedelic, blues tunes romantic of course these guys put out, they must have met Salvador Dali and smoked out with him cuz the Mandrake Root performance is Surreal.
How in the world Blackmore's guitar stays in tune after all the beating it gets from the whammy bar. Incredible showmanship from everyone in the band simply the best
Actually it was the way he set the bridge up so it couldn't go sharp or pull up. It usually worked, most of the time. I did it with my Strats. Nothing like a Floyd though.
@georgeprice4212 he definitely had the trem floating somewhere in the middle so he was able to do dive bombs as well as upward yanks, not sure what the other guy is talking about where Blackmore would deck the trem only to do divebombs. It also probably helped he would get replace the stock tremolos with custom made ones as I recall, he would destroy the trem and had to get heavier duty arms and systems.

Mark2 created their own genre with the monumental "In Rock" album. It was a blend of jazz, classical, blues, psychedelic and early rock&roll. It was a genre only they ever played. These five were quite sinply the greatest group of pure rock musicians of all-time.

Every musician was inspired by someone and used parts of music of his inspiration. So did DP, LZ, BS, Metallica and even classic composers. It's normal. After all, what makes a musician good musician is an improvisation. And Deep Purple were the best in improvisations among other hard rock bands at that time, there is no doubt.
Ladies and Gentlemen , the MkII playing the MkI, The best of that band that played classic, jazz, hard rock, blues in one song at the same time, in one word: Deep Purple ;-) fun of them since 1992 when I saw “Doing their thing...”
Awesome performance. Like it when Blackmore drinks his beer with his right hand while still playing with his left. Why is Blackmore not mentioned when the holy trinity of British guitarists (Clapton, Page and Beck) is brought up? I think he had as much talent as any of them.
Good question, easy answer. He never courted the press. He never "played the game," and whatever u think of him ,that deserves respect, IMO. Also, most of the UK press hated hard rock in favour of wimpy talentless crap
What a great footage from a great band ! These both were tracks from Mk I, and a few month later they recorded the In Rock album. Ian Paice is still one of my favourites since January 1982 when I got the Made in Japan album being 16 years old...
я тебя приветствую друг.ты говоришь тебе 55 .а мне 68.и я слушаю deep purple c утра до ночи каждый день. приблизительно с 15 лет.при этом обожаю разную музыку.и классику и народную.желаю тебе здоровья
No Wah-wash, no distortion, no chorus, no any pedal on Ritchie’s guitar. But, anyway, brilliant tone! It’s all in the mans head and the synapsis with a fingers. Great, great, brilliant !!! Such an inspiration for the further new generation of musicians. Purple - the band composed by 5 guys Inloved in music and performing it in live for the public. No drugs, but just love and synchronicity ! My Gurus !
All of these guys are great. Even Glover who is considered by some so called critics as not a top bassist. They don't have any right to call themselves critics after this.
OF THE 4 BIGGEST CLASSIC ROCK BANDS... THE WHO,... LED ZEPPELIN,... BLACK SABBATH,... DEEP PURPLE WAS, TO A PERSON, THE GREATEST, MOST TALENTED ROCK BAND EVER! ESPECIALLY THIS LINE UP, MARK IV! ABSO-ROCKIN'-LUTELY!!
Interesting, how much Blackmore loved the Greensleeves theme almost from the beginning of his career and used it many times in his medleys in Purple and later in Rainbow. If you don't know what the Greensleves theme is, check 7:34. It's a traditional English tune.
I recall reading an interview with one of his girlfriends of the early to mid '70s, and she claimed he played the as a sort of a "tribute" to her. I do not know how true this is, I'll try to find the interview and link it here.
Interesting how Jon Lord allows someone to hold down an organ note while he does something else (?) and then comes back and takes over. That guy can say "hey, I got to play with DEEP PURPLE!"
Here they start using and speriment some live parts and tricks that came to perfection in Made in Japan, espacially Space Trucking (but also Lazy) One of the best, because so creative and almost improvised, live rock album ever recorded.
Muchísimas gracias por este gran material! Había visto el mandrake root este en París pero jamas a Wring that Neck.. los escucho y aprecio desde mis 12, ahora tengo 23 años ya y nunca lo había visto. Gracias!
Say what you want, but the mark ll, purple, were the best, yes,.. The morse & airey version, in their minds, (collectively) are great, & buddies,.. But that performance, would blow them out of the water!FUCKING, AWESOME!!! exciting stuff! Most of the audience were on their feet. Blackmore was the, beating heart, Lord, was the pumping, organ (sic)AMA,.. ZING!!!!!!! Trevor flarty
15:55-ish. Jon Lord pulls a bloke out the audience and says "I need a break, press this". That man can dine out for life saying he played with Deep Purple!
Truly amazing! All music theory students should study Deep Purple 101, for examples of how to apply major , minor, chromatic scales, into freeform improvisation. Dynamics also.
