I had massive pain in my arm with numbness in my pinky. Turns out it was ulnar nerve entrapment because I kept resting my elbow on my desk. I stopped putting my elbow on my desk and after about two weeks the numbness and pain were gone.

I've tried to use "Page up/down" instead of the scroll wheel but it's just not the same. Way clunkier. I'll try again though. But just got the idea to have a separate mouse on the left hand side--one of those trackball mouses with the scroll wheel around the trackball. Should be able to scroll with the thumb on the left side this way, while using my other ergonomic mouse (a vertical trackball mouse) on the right.

Try tourbox for opposite hand to alleviation off the work load on the mouse hand.

what about using a trackball mouse such as the kensington expert mouse?

Hi Dr. So, I have numbness in my entire hand and pain and swelling in my bicep, at the elbow and the top of the forearm and side. Sometimes in my armpit, as well. Just under my jaw, it's tender & I have felt a sharp pain from there too.

Hi Demi... could you have a look at this video and let me know if you recognize the pain pattern: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nzY_zHLNV6k.html ?

Wacom tablet is best for my wrist hands down. Also wrist rest causes compression on the wrist so I dont find it very useful..

I also have mixed feeling on wrist rests (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OTSuhjpSLHg.html), which I don't use...

I want to use a wrist rest but as silly as it sounds, I thought it was meant to use as you said it shouldn't be used in the video (resting your wrist there while moving your hand to the sides) so now I'm confused, how should you use it then? I'm already using a vertical mouse but I would like to add a wrist rest for the keyboard and mouse to help with the pain
@OlivierGirard

It doesn't sound silly :) ... watch this video on wrist rests: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OTSuhjpSLHg.html. But honestly, I would NEVER use a wrist rest with a vertical mouse: it's just gonna deviate it to the side and cause pain. Does this make sense?
@xBeyondMystery
@xBeyondMystery 2 года назад
@@OlivierGirard thank you so much! It does make sense, that video also helped me understand, thank you. However, since I have a vertical mouse but it's painful when I rest my forearm and elbow on the wooden table, how can I avoid it? should I use some kind of pad or cushion to rest the whole arm on it instead of a mouse wrist rest, or should the arm be slightly floating over the table, like the keyboard arm?

@@xBeyondMystery I suspect that you have a desk height issue, mate... is your desk not too high by any chance? One thing you could try if you can't lower it by 1 or 2 cm is to raise the chair a little. Let me know!
@xBeyondMystery
@xBeyondMystery 2 года назад
@@OlivierGirard Actually...yes. I struggled with that because either my feet didn't reach the floor or the desk was too high, but now I've adjust it to the desk height (after I watched some of your other videos about good chair posture and its distance to the desk) and will use something else to rest my feet on. But since the pain is already there, I was wondering if I should add a cushion or just not rest my arm on the desk at all. Btw I've been learning a lot with your videos, thank you so much for making them!

@@xBeyondMystery Thanks a lot!! To be honest, my reaction would rather be - to interrupt my work every 15 min (I'm not joking) - to do the upper body reset 2 times per hour: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LdDnb3Miwss.html. It's not that I'm mono-maniac, but this is really the way forward I believe: without many more breaks, hardware won't resolve it :)

Hey going onto the whole wrist rest thing, there are now wrist rests that have skates on the bottom like on a mouse that allow it to move freely across the mousepad. So you could use that and maybe lower your mouse dpi so you use more of your arm instead of wrist. This is coming from me a gamer who is starting to feel wrist pains from using mainly my wrists. I’m definitely going to take in a few too from your video to help me correct my pains.
@westoncroye643

Oh and also my pain start around the pinky side of my wrist and thumb side and shoots up my forearm a little bit. I have layed my worst flat on the desk but I haven’t done that for very long though. I also work as a package handler at Fedex so I pick up a lot of heavy boxes so could that also be why my wrists (mainly my right one) hurts a little but now?

thanks for the great video i already have a carpal tunnel because of the mouse is it recommended to try exercises such as pull ups fo grep strength ??
@OlivierGirard
@OlivierGirard 3 года назад
Honestly, I wouldn’t... the reason is that the risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome include excessive gripping efforts. So what you need first is decompression of your carpal tunnel. Back in the times, a physio had helped me using a machine that was exerting traction on my wrists, and that had done the job. What have you done already to resolve the issue?
@orochimaruASH
@orochimaruASH 3 года назад
@@OlivierGirard thanks for the reply :) all i do is normal stretching maybe I should go see a physio like you did ?
@OlivierGirard
@OlivierGirard 3 года назад
@@orochimaruASH yep, I really think so. If things to resolve by themselves, you need someone to check what happens in terms of putting oil on the fire. My advice though is that you shouldn't run to a surgeon: tons of things can be done to resolve the issue before surgery if it's taken early enough.

I blew my wrists out using a trackpad and trackball. I've had x-rays, MRIs, dynamic ultrasound etc. They found that one of my tendons was slack and seemed to think that was causing the issue, but the pain is throughout both wrist joints. I've a cortisone injection in one of the wrists, and it didn't help at all. I really have no idea what to do, this has destroyed my career.
@frankf9997

Does it help to cool it down? After several ESWT sessions at a physical therapist they suggested that.. They fixed the elbow, but not the underarm. For the joints and underarm see a naprapat, they will have some suggestions.

@@frankf9997 I haven't tried icing extensively, but it does offer some slight pain relief.
@frankf9997
@frankf9997 3 года назад
@@HendrikusDeVaanBoth the physiotherapist and the naprapat told me I could cool it down for an unlimited time. I use ice in a plastic bag and adjust the temperature with the number of plastic layer wraps. For the wrists I would recommend the naprapat. A vertical mouse could put less strain on the wrists (I changed from a regular mouse and will not change back). Any variation from what caused the issue is good. Just make sure to have a slippery surface and support under the elbows.

I have had great success using the Evoluent Vertical mouse. Took my wrist and elbow pain away immediately. I'm just not 100% sure on the vertical mice for shoulder and neck pain though, might just be me.
