A quick video about how I usually approach writing a sync track based around a guitar riff. It's often a combination of guitar VSTs and real guitars, and I love writing these tracks because they usually come together pretty fast!

Great track, this really makes me want to dive more into Rock to get some distance from all the Hip Hop I've been making 😅 And I agree, the window is absolutely stunning! Must be an amazing view at night too with the sea of lights 😮

Thanks for sharing Steve, great video. I’ve been wanting to write some rock music for sync but I can’t play guitar, however I do have some great VSTs. This was very helpful. Cheers.

I love your Tshirt!! Well, I know, this is not the expected comment :) Now, nice riff, good idea to add some more epic/cinematic drums to beef things up!

Great video, I think as long as you have the crowd with you, charisma and bright production ideas, as you do, you're on to a winner. You're getting better all the time dude and better than most, thank you. PS Room treatment , I know it's a small room, but there's a lot of blank walls there behind you. Please no foam, proper bass traps ! 🙂

Thanks so much!!! Yeah for sure, eventually I'd love to get some proper treatment, it's pretty reflective at the moment 😅

Thanks again... I really appreciate the way that you approach guitar VSTs and use them to your advantage. I seem to hear things in my head that VSTs can't do and would love to learn how to get away from that and instead write to the limitations of my VSTs. (Something like that would make for either a great video, or even a great small course!!) Cheers! PS Having an inspiring view of the landscape, especially from a higher vantage point, would seem to help with one's ability to create more effectively. Studios are always a work in progress. Relocating to another living space necessitates rethinking everything, even if you had a previous studio that you really liked. Don't get too hung up on your studio and the look of your videos. It's the content that matters more than anything and your content is very, very solid, enjoyable, and also very instructional!

Really appreciate your thoughts Jim! The view has certainly been nice for the creative flow and taking mental breaks from the process. Not sure why I didn't set it up that way to begin with!

@@Steven_Beddall Creativity is a process... when the process gets interrupted by a move, we think that we need to shake things up or do something different or may simply become blind to the obvious... something that I've been guilty of more than enough. It's the process of generating ideas, then editing them down to see what works that can hang us up at times. Don't give yourself grief... that's all part of being a human! Cheers!

Nice writing Steve! I need to try that “strip silence” trick in Studio One….single coil noise can ruin a take!

Great video, loved the various tips (like removing the "silences" from the guitar tracks) and what tools you're using. In terms of the new setup, I think there's too much voice reflection off the walls behind/beside you (and probably off the glass in front ... you might want to have a voice microphone that puts a null towards the window (or a shield) and put up some sound absorbing panels to make the room sound just a little less "live". But of course it's actually sounding great and I'm just giving my two cents on how you might get that extra 5% improvement. Keep up the great work!

Appreciate the feedback! I totally know what you mean about the reflection of the voice, it's something I've got used to over time. You can remove the reflections with RX software but it sounds a little weird. Definitely in time I'll probably invest in some proper sound panels. The video doesn't show it but the ceilings are very high, we live on the top floor! 😊

Great video Stevie, thanks! I'm still in Logic so will have to play with the editing there. Love your new setup. What a view!

Hey Mary thanks for the inspiration for this video, btw I'm gonna update the Riff Rock course soon with some new tips and editing hacks. What you see here in Cubase can easily be replicated in Logic as far as audio quantization and 'strip silence' tools 😊

That view is amazing. Looking into the distance will mean your eyes can relax the contracting pupil and ciliary muscles, which is good for them. You can relax every so often and take a view to take there strain off your eyes. It will also be a creative break now and then. What monitor are you using? I have been tempted by the apple monitor recently. I use headphones a lot but wondered if the speakers in the apple monitor are good enough to be working on before mixing. So to save my ears! Any ideas?

Hey thanks for watching, I'm not sure about the speaker quality on the Apple monitor but as far as working with headphones I just make sure to keep on low volume consistently to avoid listening fatigue and hearing damage.
