You basically made me become a songwriter I came across your channel last year not believing I can write songs even though I want to be an artist but with your videos I have really developed my skills and started reading "writing better lyrics" by pat Pattinson like you said, I can boast I'm pretty good now all thanks to you.
@@SongWritersChopShop idk man I'm a dope so take anything I saw with a grain of salt. One thing was probably the channel thumbnail. Red and blue is like danger colors for me since I don't like cops too much. But honestly you growing so keep doing you
I didn't realise til now, but a couple of my favourite songs use this melody shape (On The Floor - Perfume Genius; American Sports - Arctic Monkeys) and create two completely different moods. One puts the focus on a really bouncy, infectious rhythm contrasted with a chorus that has a descending, melancholic feel; the other compliments the complex, stream of consciousness-style lyrics and has a dark, ominous feel. I've noticed a lot of Smiths records have a flatline melody too, which I love. So cool. I love music theory :') so endlessly interesting.
wouldn't the Chopin one be arch? It kind of feels like the melody is doing a succession of arches and gives the same feeling that the nirvana song and paint it black from your arch video give.
Hi Alejandro. That is an interesting take. The melodic line does have some of the things I talked about in the arch vid. The interval leap at the beginning especially. I think if you zoom out and look at the overall melody it has some of those characteristics. I'm not sure I would class it as an arch as the dominant shape seems to be a flatline. Since I think it's better to approach something like melody shapes in a more general way, I guess that leaves planty of room for one's own subjective interpretation. Which is great, it gives us plenty of ways to express ourselves through melody. I'd suggest experimenting with using an arch shape in shorter phrases (2-4 bars) and for an overall shape to a longer section (8 bars or more) seeing/ hearing the difference in feel and what that could be used for. Thanks for the comment, let me know what you think.
I have this weird sense if losing my innocence learning this stuff. Cause I always created naturally, understanding the why behind why certain things worked…there’s no turning back from. But since I create as a job now, I decided I need the tools so I can create on demand. It’s a trade off. I appreciate this channel it’s my go to.
