Hi, sorry for taking so long in posting my technical videos.
This video is very special to me, for many reasons, first, I helped a friend own his first GMRS repeater, his name is Thomas Duke WRTJ772, he is from South Carolina, we actually met on an open Zello channel called GMRS_TWO_WAY_RADIO a gentleman called Scott from Wisconsin sponsors the channel and I found it by accident, well to make a long story short, we basically talk every day and I mentioned that I just retired from Motorola and that my hobby is building repeaters, we got to talking and I had mentioned that I was looking for a nationwide network, he suggested the Octane network, once I finished building this repeater and after getting accepted and a Hub was created just for our close group, the group name is The Outcast, Don't Ask!! anyway, the repeater is finished and is ready to be put on the air where it will serve a local community in his town. I hope you enjoy this one.

I have a kenwood setup I built. Tk 8180. Radios and a ham gadgets repeater board. Morse code id and voice compatible with an auxiliary board. I bought a fumei duplexer and I am working with a fellow club member to hopefully help me test and tune my setup in . Thus is really neat to see. From a ham operator 73 ! And thanks for sharing. Gmrs and ham out of northeast Ohio.

Great progress from when you first bought one from me. Its a tough business and starting to get not really fun anymore. Not scalable at all and hard to get good deals. Then HAMS / GMRS users are dirt cheap, if I want to sell 5 a month at least. I'm not gonna do this to sell 1 a month. So if I sell a repeater for 500 bucks, have 150 in the radios, 150 in the computing, thats only 200 bucks in my pocket for 4 -5 hours of work. Which isn't really getting close to my $100/hr rate for engineering projects like this.

How much to build a repeater like that without the option of connecting to a network? Just a stand-alone repeater? Nice work!! 73 de N5BIG / WRTL267

When I build mobile based repeaters I set the tx radio to 10 watts and then run it into an external amplifier that takes 10 watts in and sized to whatever output power the output needs according to its use. Currently working on a Desktrac repeater and converting it to P25 with the Repeater-Builder board. Fans and amps are cooled via a thermistor controlled switch. I could have sworn I saw something in the past that used a RaspberryPi with an interface board that would send out a push notification to those responsible for the site. One could also interface a power monitor to the system to let one know what is happening with output power. Nice build!

@wd4ehutechnicalsite314 Could you possibly give me an idea of where i can obtain the software for discontinued radios like the m1225 for example? I have several prior public service units I obtained when our FD changed to kenwood. I interested in using them for a couple mmdvm pi repeaters, but the software isnt as readily available as other manufacturers. Thanks, James.
