With George and Steve on the show together, it was one of the best analysis of rugby. Would love to see a one-off show with all 5 just talking about the current state of rugby and what they see as ideas to further improve the sport.

I'm with John on the state of American rugby. Quotas are a necessary evil. Other countries limit the number of foreign nationals on the pitch of their professional leagues. Why doesn't the MLR? Truthfully, I have no idea how many Americans, if any, are on a MLR club. I would appreciate a rule that requires MLR clubs to indicate on their rosters which players are Eagle eligible. That way I would know who to pay attention to and who I should be cheering for. I've heard the arguments against quotas. "Americans want to see the best players in the world." If that's what we want to watch, we need to be watching a different league than the MLR. The MLR is chock full of players that are only here because they could not make the squads in their home countries. Most Americans would be happy watching a competitive match even if the skills on display are not top notch.

Just to clarify, the MLR does limit the foreign slots to a max of 10 on the match day roster. They are looking to make that lower in the coming years... Also, JBL didn't say he was for quotas, and Steve said he's not sure that's the answer for the MLR.

@@RugbyWrapUp They must have made the 'quota' change this year. I know that in previous years there was no such thing. Since Glendale left the MLR because of the lack of interest in such quotas perhaps they should be notified. BTW the MLR somehow got their numbers backwards. It should be 10/5 the other way around.

the health system in America will make it difficult for African Americans to join the rugby train unless working as a rugby player will guarantee proper health insurance. the reason rugby thrives in former British colonies is because access to health is not that complicated. You can have medical aid and you will be covered.

I've pointed out this problem in the past. If you want rugby to improve in the USA you need to support an American NHS or Medicare for all.
