WSU Wins 1st Apple Cup following UW Conference Realignment

The WSU Cougars took down the Washington Huskies 24-19 in the 116th meet up of the Apple Cup. However, this was the first Apple Cup since 1961 played on a "neutral site", and with both being being in separate conferences.
John Mateer flashed his Heisman ability and UW drew 135 yards worth of penalties as it came down to a 4th & 1 goal line stop in the final minutes.

@@garrettwenger6573 GLAD to se some people STILL have "State Loyalty"! I was really DISAPPOINTED by some of the negativity I saw from Cougs when the Dawgs went to the "natty", because I root FOR the COUGS against their out-of-state rivals!

UW forfeited the chance to keep that trophy or ever get a chance to hold it again. They left the pac-12 they don’t get that beautiful apple cup trophy. Looking forward to visiting Pullman and seeing it there forever :) go cougs baby

Trust me as a Michigan fan and Old School Big ten fan I don't like it either it makes no sense to me it's stupid not saying I don't like any of the schools in the conference but it just makes no sense

Williams wasn’t 100% in the uw and in the 2nd half of that game vs ttu. I think they’ll start to get back on track this week

let’s not count our chickens before they hatch. Dickert’s teams have had a tendency to start out strong then fizzle out as the year goes along

ESPN playoff predictor has Cougs at better than 99 percent to make the playoffs if they go undefeated, around 60 percent with one loss. For what it's worth, WSU has a better chance (according to ESPN) of making the playoffs (24 percent) than Utah, Oklahoma and Clemson.

I predict that West Coast teams are going to struggle to make the playoffs. Going back east will not be easy for those west coast teams. Travelling east and classes will not be an easy feat. I don't see much success for them.

I don’t agree. If WSU performs well and PAC depletes more strong G5 teams from other leagues, then WSU becomes a magnet football school because they’re the big dog in the premiere G6. They can win a TON, be the conf champion and get into the CFP more often than Iowa, Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Missouri, Arizona, Nebraska, etc. Dickert & company wouldn’t want to leave that.

@@briancollins1233 I'll add that even if Dickert moves on to bigger and better, WSU is in the driver's seat to continue to build a quality program that both star players and coaches will want to be a part of. All programs lose coaches. We want to be a program that both loses and attracts quality coaches because of our success.
