WTF Happened To This Celebrity? - The JoBlo series that examines the careers of stars and filmmakers who may have fallen out of the spotlight, and tells where they are now!
This episode has a twist ending! Of course you might expect that with filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, whose movies became known for inevitable third-act surprises after the gargantuan success of THE SIXTH SENSE. After a handful of hits, a few big-budget flops pushed him out of the spotlight for a while before he slowly began a comeback with late-stage sequels to fan-favorite UNBREAKABLE. Where is he now? Was he just a ghost the whole time? Find out in our latest video!

The only problem I had with that film was how the hell a guy with super powers somehow has forgotten that he’s incredibly strong, ripped the door off a car and has never had a cold... Don’t get me wrong, I loved the movie it’s just always bugged me.

That and Signs are both underrated in my view. I honestly think that the type of audience that watched signs (sci-fi lovers; thrill seekers, looking forward to a twist; hard headed types) couldn’t accept the final, twist premise, that God was real, watching, and had planned for the finale, so long as the hero read all the, “signs,” God left for him. Some atheists are really evangelical about it, and can’t take the notion of God, even in a fictional, sci-fi fantasy. So, they all didn’t want to come off as bigots, and went on about the water being illogical, which makes no sense to a scientist, btw. Given how rare Earth is. Imagine you had no Earth left, and roamed the universe looking for a planet to colonise, and find one, with all of those incredibly rare things you need? The right gravity; nitrogen and oxygen mix; minerals and resources; food sources; radiation protection; temperature; stability; the list is literally endless. But the only catch? Oceans of sulphuric acid. The odds of finding another, more suitable habitat are literally billions to one against. There’s nothing wrong with that premise (though there are some, few, flaws in the execution). We are literally trying to set up a society on Mars. Why would a species, made of 70+ % water want to inhabit a planet with virtually no water, and no atmosphere? See what I mean? And don’t get me started on what these aliens would have seen of Earth culture? They’d be wise to eradicate us, but they at least seemed to be sending out teams to explore, before dropping bombs on us? People hid behind an ill informed argument, to cover their bigotry. I honestly think that. Man, I must be, “triggered,” or something? I went on a bit! I must have been carrying that around for some time 🤣👍

That’s pretty sharp. Hope you’re wrong, as I’d love to see something of the level of 6th Sense, Signs, or Unbreakable again. Have you noticed? His best movies are all family drama’s about loss and grief, with a sci-fi element to them. I’d like to see him in darker, David Fincher type territory? Bet he could do a really excellent dark and deadly thriller? But, that was a good quip, I’ll give you that 😉

I’m gonna be honest, the visit was not all that great. The camera quality ruined the illusion of it supposedly being a found footage movie and the kids were very obnoxious, especially the rapping kid. Split seemed to be a return to form, but the script was written back when he was making good movies like unbreakable. Then he shat the bed with glass and now he seems to be back making terrible movies. I’m guessing he must’ve taken credit from an unseen hand that played a part in the script or film aspects of sixth sense and unbreakable, because how else can you explain his horrendous track record.

It was very financially and critically successful. Hardly the criteria for an underrated movie. There exists a very vocal crowd of haters who reject the movie largely due to the absence of any big SFX reveal of a full scale alien invasion and the Aliens’ Weakness (the same as David Dunn’s) which was arguably underwhelming. I still say that the movie is still great for creating trope-defying canon, i.e. Intelligent Space-Faring Aliens that that do not use technological weaponry against characters that do not have firearms. I have also never before or since seen an alien movie that featured creatures with a biological ability to release poisonous vapors as a weapon.

I like Glass. I like the idea that we were still staying in this "realistic" superhero universe. I remember people complaining about hiw underwhelming the final fight was, but it was just staying true to the power levels that were already set. Ee weren't watching Thor versus the Incredible Hulk, we were just watching two guys who were just capable of doing a little above a real human can actually do. Plus, when you throw a lot of special effects and grandiose action into a final fight, you kind of get what you got the end of the movie Chronicle, where it doesn't really match the smaller more intimate feel that the rest of the movie had. Plus, the three leads put in great performances.

Servant is masterpiece... and he did co-write if I'm not mistaken. I actually don't love his films, but I absolutely loved the series. In his words "I wanted to bring to Apple what Fincher gave Netflix with House Of Cards, that print"... I honestly think that Servant is superior stuff, at least in terms of what is achieved in one location with only 4 actors... and how the camera behaves and the food spice the plot.

But it came across as what it was, a Nickelodeon-style live action take on a cartoon. It doesn't take itself too seriously, it's just a family friendly fantasy setting.
