You mentioned Michael Mann as being the man that made "Miami Vice" what it is , which is definitely true. However, you left the legendary director who also made the show what it actually is. And that was the legendary filmmaker and T.V. director, Thomas Carter. He, along with Michael Mann, made MTV cops come to life. In fact, Mr. Thomas Carter was just as responsible for making "Miami Vice" the show it was when he directed the very first episode which was a TV movie.

Stop with the bs like that Bruce Willis babble and stick to the subject. And learn how to pronounce your "favourite characters" name. Pronounced "Castiyo", not "Castilo". Do your homework, Jesse!

From his role in as Sticks (Sparkle's boyfriend) in Sparkle (1976) to Tubbs in Miami Vice to his voice work as Lance Vance in GTA Vice City, Philip Michael Thomas is a very underrated actor. Sparkle, Miami Vice, and GTA Vice City are all iconic.

@@thedarkknightman6150 I am sure there are people who don't like it. My question was rhetorical. However, usually when someone says love it or hate it that means a controversy or enough people on one side or the other of a viewpoint to make that statement worth saying. Not many people that I can think of dislike this show. It is true that there's some controversy over some later seasons quality over the first few seasons. I have never heard of outright dislike of the series.

Phil Collins on the show was pretty good, too.

Miami Vice was actually shot on 35mm, so it really did feel like a movie.

​@@jaybarnes6736 It was probably 1988 and I was 6 years old. A hotel on the Eastern Black Sea. In the lobby they had arcade type machines. They turned them off for the night, and whenever they were booted up first in the morning, they'd run one game for free. So us, kids, went to the lobby early each morning, for a chance to play everything, without spending money. Eventually I figured that we could just go around and secretly unplug the arcades and plug them back in, when security wasn't watching. But they caught us eventually. They had a regular small Russian television attached to the ceiling. And at night, sometimes adults would gather and watch something foreign. The room would be stuffed, with everyone watching that tiny little box. We watched Star Wars that way. It was titled "Episode 4", so we assumed it was actual part 4 of some film. Why would television lie to us? Even though I was young, and those things are distant, I have photographic memory, and to me, it is as if I am still there. Like no time has passed whatsoever. When memories do not degrade, time seems to stand still. It's hard to remember what was before and what was after. Everything feels like the present. And because of that, I'm nostalgic for the past. For the mysteriousness of existence. I miss the USSR, when the outside world was invisible, and one had to imagine it. Foreign films looked so different, compared to now, when I actually live in North America. I once remember an Eastern European friend tell me about ambulances here. He said that in his county, ambulances sounded differently, but since it was a cheap place to film, they often had foreign crews, making shows there, and they would use North American sirens. As a result, whenever he hears an ambulance over here, his mind is telling him that someone is shooting a movie nearby. I find that quite funny.

@@ys_a1659 It was the pilot episode. I rewatched it a few times afterwards. Still as amazing as the first time. It's pure eye candy.

"We didn't have TV shows" is false. For example, Italian crime show La Piovra was broadcast on state TV. Besides, there was a lot of other Italian, French, Mexican stuff that was shown.

I've loved this show since USA aired reruns in 1988.

Season 4 and 5 could have stayed unmade.

@@derekwilliams1660 It actually ENDED on USA Network, with the last first-run episode "Too Much Too Late" (in terms of production order "Freefall" closed the curtain, of course).

As a massive fan of this show I think the fellas were right that it didn’t really get amazing until Castillo joined. The pilot is good - with some amazing, cinematic moments (the In the Air Tonight scene is a classic) - but mid season it got amazing. Around the time Smuggler’s Blues hit the air.

@@JoBloOriginals Nope, disagree. One of those rare times when the pilot set the amazing tone for the whole show. The leads, the style, the music, the suspense, the acting. It was all there. The only other show I can think of that was great from the pilot was The X-Files. And yes, there were improvements for both of those shows, but they were still absolutely amazing from the get go.

The pilot is just OK. The show doesn't find its feet til ep7 or 8 when the show gets refocused.

@@gilescosgrove3933 That's true, not much that can be done. Still, it stinks being yanked around like that when it comes to restrictions. But yes, many times I myself have found "Miami Vice" as an answer to a few of my woes, constantly referencing moments or certain quotes from the show that fit with whatever is going on with my day. Oh, and not just the clothes, the colors: my kind of colors for sure:-).

@@gilescosgrove3933 For sure, and like JoBlo's stated in his video here, it really was the start of a lot of things that remain on television to this day. Elements of Vice are here to stay, so why not go back and see all those elements in play with the show, right?

You just hated the character he played in that episode , abusive husband and connected arms dealer both. Bruce Willis could act in that era.

@@maxmaxmaxmax647 S1 was Chicago and the on-going story, a full season arc S2 was Vegas and it WOULD have been okay except the studio demand it move to episode of the week and it was just horrible. Some great moments and scenes but it was ruined.

I always felt like Nash Bridges was Johnson having another go at Miami Vice, but in the 90's. Cheech Marin was great as his partner. Johnson must have a thing for English women, as his financee in MV was Helena Bonham Carter and his ex in NB was Serena Scott Thomas.

First season 1 and the opening 2 episodes of season 2 after that the cinematography changed

I think a lot of it had to do with the slow burn of the movie. People wanted a high octane guns blazing action movie with cool cars, hot women, and high fashion. They got a modernized Miami Vice with international crime syndicates that follows the original MV episode dramatic narrative. You can pick out different moments that came straight from the show such as Trudy getting kidnapped with a bomb put on her and an ending gun fight.

Sorry have to agree to disagree. The movie wasn't anything like Crockett and Tubbs were. The original was the absolute best ❤

The video game of the 2006 movie was even better but it was only for PSP.

@@redram5150 I disagree. He was always a rip off of both Connery and Moore. Very much Roger Connery... unless he was doubled as a drummer for The Maniac Street Preachers then he would be Sean Moore.

Likewise, though I liked Brosnan, too -- he managed to straddle the line between Moore's Campy Bond and Dalton's more serious take.

The word is : momentum. It's an awesome thing but sad at the same time, once it passed... then it's gone.

I never looked at it that way, but that Wolf does like to howl, and line producer for the show was his final stop before "Law & Order". Lots of "Ripped from the Headlines" stuff on Vice, so Wolf really made his presence felt, but he wasn't the Mann.

stylistically. technically. unofficially. MIAMI VICE lasted (the first) two seasons, bookend by the Calderone saga with the masterpiece pilot and the devastatingly heartbreaking finale Sons and Lovers.

@@SIKE01 For sure, as Season 3 had a completely different feel all the way around. Even going back and watching the series multiple times, 'Sons and Lovers' to me feels like an ending (even with Tubbs reading Calderone's "I'll be back!" at the cemetery; a certain kind of irony there). I'm not saying that's bad though, in retrospect I'm glad the show tried to go a different way, as the series was all about breaking new ground. I think Season 3 has the best stories, but I also feel the tone is a bit clinical & detached, like the material & presentation is a bit cold around the heart and at arm's length. So I'm glad that the entire series isn't that way, but for a season (I admit that Season 4 has a problem with TOO MANY tones) I like it.

@Miami Beau Even in Heart of Darkness Crockett comments how demanding it is to be always working under cover and that you run the risk of losing yourself. Very prescient when you consider the much later amnesia episodes.
