I remember seeing commercials for this and thinking it would be boring to have a movie that just takes place in a phone booth. I later watched it at a friends house and thought it was fantastic.
@@brandonellis8111 I watched that, but don't remember much. The only thing I really remember is he says he was taken outside of Baqubah and that's because that was the location of my first deployment.
The DVD commentary on this movie was gold. I actually found out about "Tigerland" from it, which was a hell of a movie. But yeah he said he had Kiefer play a vampire, a suicidal med student, a KKK member and a serial phone call killer 😂
This is absolutely true. People may know what a phone booth was but they won't be able to connect with the movie because they never used a phone booth themselves. I used phone booths when I was a kid. I saw them disappear. Then I saw public phones disappear. Then Boost chirp phones were popular in 2003. Then those phones disappeared.
I had a blast seeing this in theaters back in the day. Outside the theater there was an old phonebooth that I used to use to call my parents to pick us up and my old highschool buddy mocked cocked a gun and pointed his fingers at me. Mind you this theater was in the middle of nowhere in Gilford NH. Great times.
When I saw it in the movies, I LITERALLY saw people twitch in fear. Myself probably included, I don't remember, but I saw some shoulders swivel when it happened
"Hey Michael Bay, we need some help with Phonebooth." Michael Bay: "How do we get this out of the Phonebooth?" "Ok Michael thanks for stopping by, you can see yourself out."
With videos like this you remind me every once in a while why it's worth checking out your channel! Hardly anyone talks about movies like this! Here are a couple more for your consideration: Tears of the Sun (2003), Cellular (2004), Hostage (2005), Inside Man (2006), Shooter (2007), Vantage Point (2008) (they wasted Zoe Saldana in that one though) and many many more I would like to write down :)
Oh man can you imagine if they actually cast Jim Carrey as the guy in the phone booth and Robin Williams as the sniper? Can’t believe those were considered or even originally cast.
I remember my mom buying this in queens ny on dvd but my aunt took it & she brought it on vhs at 7 years old this was my favorite movie !!!! Even today Collin killed it
I remember I got tickets for the preview for this movie on the radio and I got a bunch of swag for going. Posters keychains stickers. Seemed a little overdone. LOL
I remember those old phone booth days... AT&T's 1-800 - C O L L E C T was my usual go-to whenever I was away from home. That,, and the first generation models of those little "Motorola" beepers, really helped me keep in touch with family. I really miss the late 80's / early 90's!! 👍
Stationary movies can be good, its how its executed. For example 2010s 'Buried' was a great movie, even tho its purely Ryan Reynolds in a coffin under ground. Its the words, the thrills and the unknowing that keeps us hooked. Phone Booth had a similar feeling.
I remember when this movie came out and even as a kid I was terrified of guns, so the concept for this was immediately terrifying Never seen it to this day 😂
I remember having nothing to do back in the day so I went to the cinema, this was playing and I had no idea what it was going to be about so anyways I bought the ticket. I have no regrets, I still like it.
You know the one thing that bothered me is the self righteous dude played by Kiefer is wanting to make Farrells character into a better person but has no issue murdering the pizza man to get away. I get that his moral compass is a little twisted but still doesn’t make sense to me. Was the pizza guy a bad dude and I just forget?
I love this movie and I have zero complaints but I can see a way to improve the film. Replace Kiefer Sutherlands voice and insert Gilbert Gottfrieds voice.
As much as I love Kiefer Sutherland and thought he was great in the role, there is a part of me that's curious about what Anthony Hopkins and Robin Williams voices would've sounded like as the sniper.
I remember i was 18-20 dating high school sweet heart. We broke up she asked if i seen phone both cause “its about telling truth” Cause i would talk to girls, not tell her some of her friends lol Like i was cheating… I never cheated once though so….?!?!?! Still makes me laugh today
The most important part of this post is the part that is most misunderstood. Tell some of her friends what? Were they the ones you were talking to? Or you not only didn't tell your gf, but also didn't tell some of her friends [that you were talking to other girls]?! Inquiring minds wanna know🤔 i took the time to read it, don't leave me in suspense.🤣
There's just one thing that breaks the whole thing and that is that lasers are so easy to see where they are coming from, so in reality, he would have known immediately which direction the snipers laser came from and could then just hide behind anything the laser can't reach. It's easier to see a laser's actual beam when it's pointed at you than it is for you to see it if you were pointing it away from you. The laser dot in the film was fake in some places and you can tell because light doesn't move over an object the way the fake dot did.
does the movie have flaws? yes. but its thrilling and suspenseful. thats impressive given it takes place in a phonebooth. always enjoyed this movie and will defend it
You know what I truly don't see Jim Carrey in this character but I would like to see Jim Carrey play that character because I know Jim Carrey does have a very wide range if he's given the opportunity to use it
The Coens are dope. And my last name is Cone so I guess I'm only 1 letter swap from being a pair of brilliant Jewish brothers! Nothing to do with this shit I was watching No country for Old men this morning
@@mrhumble2937yes way, they’re mainly in residential areas. Some people can’t afford phone plans and some might run out of credit with no way to recharge so its more of a backup.
Jim Carrey would have crushed this role. I remember reading about this movie when he was attached and being so hyped for it. Still a fan of the version that it ended up being, time for a rewatch, been a while.
It’s a shame Joel Schumacher has to forever be associated with Batman And Robin, which wasn’t his fault, since he has made solid movies before and after that
He wanted to make Batman & Robin campy and many of the design choices were his, so of course it’s at least partly his fault. That said, I agree he should be more associated with his better films such as this and 8MM (EDIT: and Lost Boys and Falling Down)
I love Phone Booth. Colin Ferrell was great acting alone in the booth with Keifer s Southerland taughting him on the phone. Joel Schumacher still had it.
The studio told Joel to DUMB down that film to sale more toys, but,in an interview he told people he'd take the blame for B & R.My respect for him went to another level.
My 2 favourite Schumacher movies are falling down and phone booth. Both movies take place over the course of one day. He's directed many fine movies, but it's a real shame he gets recognized by many for ruining the Batman franchise in the 90s. It really wasn't his fault as the studios demanded a more family friendly Batman for marketing purposes after Batman Returns was deemed too dark.
