This is brilliant. No one wrote and created music like Zappa ...... It's so incredibly colourful, diverse, unique and brilliant. I really enjoy watching other people discover the brilliance of Zappa.

I'm glad you can see the humour in all of this. As you say Frank is just playing games with us
@zappafanseeker1099
@zappafanseeker1099 Год назад
The song title is pronounced Ree-dunzel, as in a combination of repeating +redundant+Repunzel. Top rumoured meanings: 1) One of Franks nicknames for his wife Gail, as she had long hair and repeated herself a lot. 2) a reference to old British car shift pattern Reverse+Drive+Nuetral+Zecond+Low. Gail did indeed have long, VERY out of control hair, and did repeat herself A LOT, often at considerable volume. Frank did indeed have a beautiful old black Rolls Royce, with red pin stripes, and the license plate was RDNZL.
@Peter-K
@Peter-K Год назад
Saw Dweezil in 2017 and just before he played it, he told us that this song was written for Gail based on what you said in part 1. I'll go with the family source.
@FreeBrunoPowroznik
@FreeBrunoPowroznik Год назад
I had never heard this before, but had guessed it was pronounced Redunzel, and created by combining Redundant and Repunzel. Had no clue it was related to Gail, though. So, thanks for this
@zappafanseeker1099
@zappafanseeker1099 Год назад
@@Peter-K I never talked to Dweezil personally about it, and didn"t see that particular show, so I put both ideas out there. The car part I know to be accurate in the sense that I have seen and been in the car and that is the plate. Dweezils plate at the time (purple BMW 528) incorporated the initials of family members and I did have to ask him what it meant. We, at Barfko-swill also speculated that there may have been influence from Firesign theatres "don't crush that dwarf, hand me the pliers" "department of redundancy department".
@Peter-K
@Peter-K Год назад
@@zappafanseeker1099 He actually got choked up telling the story, I'm guessing because it was just a couple of years after Gail died. You worked for Barfko Swill? I'm jealous!
@zappafanseeker1099
@zappafanseeker1099 Год назад
@@Peter-K Thanks, it took many years of begging on my part to go from being friends with Frank to working for them, and my relationship with him became much more "formal" with him when I became an employee. There were literally hundreds of things I would loved to have asked about, but I worked for Gail, and she kept me on a very short leash. I loved the whole family dearly, and she was kind enough to keep me on until 1998. I went to the house on a daily basis, and it never failed to give me chills. Dweezil is an incredible talent and a true gentleman. I attended every show that "Z" performed, including the Club Lingerie show with Frank. He loved it and was so proud, even though he was heartbreakingly ill by then. The last time I saw DZ was at the canyon club in LA in feb. 15 2020. It has gotten easier for him in some ways over time, but he still gets choked up.

Bought both Studio Tan and Sleep Dirt from Record Revolution on Coventry in Cleveland when they 1st came out. Magnificent memories placing the needle on vinyl not knowing what was going to come out of the speakers. I’m going back to the 70’s, who’s with me?

I'm with you. It was sooooo exciting, buying a new Frank album, studing the cover, then slitting the plastic open, sliding out the lp, placing it on the turntable, lowering the needle and sitting back, ready to be totally amazed!

I think it's becoming quite evident to you now that Frank always had the best musicians in the bizz. You play in his band for a while, and it's like going to Music U. to get your advanced degree. So many who played with him went onto great things. He WAS music. So sad the state of the industry today.

Hard to pic a fav, but this is it for me. The whole album is through and through as close tp perfect as it gets. You are going to die when you get to Let Me Take You To The Beach. And yes, this solo, man, the whole thing. One of the highest accomplishments of any human ever.

Hey Folks... Is it just me, or is there an uncanny similarity between the cover of this album and the picture of John next to it!!!! "John is seated in the control room of his tan colored studio kitchen listening to Frank poot forth a confusing muffintop rosetta of a song as he mirrors the expression of exasperated confusion of a cartoonlike character on a cheesy album cover, right down to the reflections in his rectangulared lensed glasses, and his carefully placed ear coverings. WTF he says..." It is just too perfect!!! I don't do drugs or alcohol, so I can't tell if this is real, but I will never see that album cover in the same way again.

You know the thing is that one part did you notice that the first part was done at the end of the song but slowed down and done with single notes were with the first part it was done with I don't know if it was marimbas and synthesizers and all that but it was double noted you know 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 2 boom boom you know each note had two notes and then it was just one note but kind of slowed down per se and then you got that random bunch of cords thrown together and then you get it like a really weird Rando type Riff on the marimbas and all that and then you've got these two descending Jazz chords right at the end perfect like it was just a normal song which I just love okay sir slop

I can see your digging Frank Zappa . He wasn't mainstream..he played to his own audience. He was light-years ahead of everyone else in Rock. Tragic that cancer took him in 93' . He has over 60 albums out . His vault at his estate holds over 250 unreleased songs. He was known also as one of the greatest composers of the 20 th century. . Treacherous Cretins long version is one of his longest KILLER guitar solos.
