The first smooth bore tip installed was over pressured. Hence the broken stream.

This turbulence happens because the integrated tip has an exit orifice of 7/8”. Screwing an additional 7/8” tip takes that from 7/8” to 1 3/8” (base of the additional tip) back to 7/8” which causes inefficiency and the poor stream.

Looks like a screw on thread protector would helps with looks and long term damage to the threads.
