When I was living in rhode island there was an area where construction was taking place, while walking the site i found some rocks similar to those in the pictures in this video, some of them had a sand grain textured green material on them, not like crystals you see thru, but opaque. i haven't been able to identify what it is yet.
Do you use a 3lb rock hammer to mine at this location or a 5lb mini sledge? Just got into rock hounding recently, love the loudville mine, but I've been having trouble breaking open medium sized rocks to get to the crystals inside without actually breaking the crystals inside. Any tips? Also I recommend surface collecting inside the brook near the mine. I have found some great specimens just sitting in the water probably because someone chucked it not thinking they had anything nice. Also recommend Betts Manganese Mine in Plainfield. There's a $20 fee, but you can find some great rhodonite and pyrite. Good luck!
Thanks for the comment!! Yes, I use a 3lbs hammer but actually going to get myself a larger one as well for my hard rock trips to New York. It's funny you mentioned Betts Mine because I was just researching it this morning for a future trip. I created an Instagram account for followers and planning future group meets.
