I love how any moment in Spongebob can be immediately referenced by Early Gen Z’ers🤣 In my spanish class, I did the whole “He-She-Me,..” and the entire class joined in for a huge “WUMBO!” and the teacher couldn’t even be mad because she loved Spongebob while she was in college🤣🤣
i.e. Me. Born in 2002 and grew up watching Spongebob every day. Spongebob was my whole world and I drove both my grandmas crazy with how much I quoted it.
RIP Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway. It makes me realize that Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy could’ve been in more episodes. They were some of the most fun side characters for me.
Mickey Mouse is still around and he’s a fictional character over the years they had different people do very similar voices. I don’t understand in recent years just because actors who voiced cartoon characters died their cartoon characters have died with them?!?!
@@shawnlittle3091 There's just certain characters whose voices are so iconic that you can't really replace them without it feeling wrong, or disrespecting the memory of the original. So rather than trying and failing to fill the role, they opt to simply retire the characters. The Simpsons has done this a few times, such as when Phil Hartman was murdered. I think it's actually a really nice gesture - showing they actually respect the actors and characters by preserving their legacy. Certain shows have managed to avoid this problem, though, such as LEGO Ninjago. There, the voice for Cole, Kirby Morrow, died and was succeeded by Andrew Francis, a close friend of Kirby's since childhood as well as a good sound-alike. But they still keep a mixture of Kirby's and Andrew's voices in their "grunt library" (a collection of stock grunts and noises they have for each character, so that they don't have to record new grunts every time they need one) to make sure that Kirby is still part of the character. And besides, there's a difference between a recurring side character and a main character. Mickey NEEDS new voices in order for the brand to continue; SpongeBob can and has survived without Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy - no offense to Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway.
For the record, a fall from that height would not be enough to kill Squidward due the square-cube law. “The bigger they are” indeed, and he was about six inches tall BEFORE shrinking.
The square-cube law is always weird to think about; it seems so counterintuitive. An insect falling from a height enough to kill a human would be hundreds of millions of times equivalent height for the insect, and yet they'd be entirely uninjured.
The ending of "Doing Time" is still one of the most surreal yet entertaining things I've seen, at least from this show. Also, a gag that I think gets overlooked too much is the one at 10:35, where the mayor is "opening" an unfinished bridge.

We can only thank God that belt sequence on Squidward was back when the animators and writers had some restraint. Lord know what we would've seen if this were a later episode.
You know, doing time is one of the few SpongeBob episodes that has no clear ending. Was mrs puff going crazy, or was SpongeBob really there? Did any of these events actually occur or was it all in mrs puff’s head? Or was this a vision of events to come and mrs puff was having a premonition since the episode ended close to where it began?
The way I've interpreted it is that Mrs. Puff lives in a constant cycle of anxiety and fear of consequences due to SpongeBob. Because she has sworn to never give up, it is a recurring nightmare, as shown here. Mrs. Puff has had bad run ins with the law in her past, which is why despite her trigger being SpongeBob, her greatest fear is getting incarcerated, something that... Logically wouldn't happen to a Driving instructor Becuase they have a catastrophic student. But it's a constant on Mrs. Puff's mind Becuase, I suppose she fears any scrutiny on her new identity will unravel it, and she'll be taken in. What we see, is her old greatest fear, become a place of salvation from her new threat, SpongeBob. But then SpongeBob infiltrates it, acting as a symbol of anxiety, which is meant to be a helpful response, but when overzealous and unwanted, is detrimental and destructive to us. So the episode is basically a new trauma supplanting the old, and Mrs. Puff sort of... Giving up fighting against it. Which one could interpret either positively or tragically. Either she recognizes that freaking out will do know good and is rolling with the punches, which could be a sign of coping. Or... We just saw the last bits of sanity in Mrs. Puff give up and die.
Found your guys channel recently since I’ve been sick and stuck in bed. Love your guys reactions, as someone who grew up without cable and had the first 5 seasons of SpongeBob on dvd, I memorized the episodes and love them so much. Dude the scene when Squidward was being affected by the belt still kills me to this day! And yeah it was so dark how they legit have him get cut in half like that showing his brains, insides, everything lol

Doing Time is so underrated, love the these are my people line and the butch prisoners also the life on the outside part the guy stuck at work, in traffic and home lol such a reality check just amazing.
I didn't even notice until you pointed it out! Then again, this is the first time I noticed that Mermaidman in the jar is holding up his pants with clothes pins.
Fun Fact: That scene with Spongebob breaking through the metal wall was their first use of computer generated 3D in the show :L Also that song Fred the fish (the one mopping) was listening to is a real song called Surfin' Summer by Richard Myhill. Fred is also the fan-recognized perpetrator/receiver of the "MY LEG!" line gag, voiced by Doug Lawrence whom also voices Plankton and many other background fish voices.
16:04 i agree with you guys. Like as a kid, i always found it funny what happened to Mrs puff, but now as an adult i just can't help but feel so bad for her. Spongebob may be a nice guy and means well, but my gosh he really should quit boating school if he can't listen and control himself when driving. Like why not just use a bike instead??
Fun Fact: The Episode "Doing Time", originally was suppose to end when SpongeBob got arrested and the police man told Mrs.Puff that she already went to jail. But for unknown reasons they decided to make it part of Puff's dream sequence
He's not a prick. He was paranoid and scared Mermaidman wasn't going to like him anymore. Could you really blame him for trying to hush everyone up? I couldn't.

Instead of doing the right thing telling the truth he decided to take the coward's way out. And he then proceeded to harm everyone in bikini bottom just to save his own a*s. He selfishly put everyone in danger, trying to get out of facing the consequences of his wrong actions. All of that makes him a prick. And the fact that you think all that is okay makes you very questionable as well.

Why didn’t SpongeBob just tell Squidward that Mermaid Man dropped his belt and he was gonna return it after work? Instead of going along with what Squidward assumed🤷♂️🤷♂️🤔🤔
I just realized something when they were beating up SpongeBob body mermaid man said something about shrinking for years if they are the only human people wouldn’t they be bigger? If that’s the case they must have shrunk themselves
