It was a good choice on that RS I have a 21 standard 9T and put a Wunderlich windshield on mine I’m satisfied with it and I hope that you remain satisfied with yours
Nice video, thanks. I bought the "Marathon" for my 1200 RS. When mounted in the low mounting wholes and set down in low position, the low lateral edges of the shield can touch (and therefore damage) the surface of the fairing, especially when vibrating at certain revs.
I only rode mine in the low position holes for a few days but I didn't notice any touching at least on the R1250RS. When I was first looking at these there were actually 2 available. One was the new Marathon, and the other was just a windshield. They also had different prices but both looked the same. When I finally decided to buy they had both been taken off the website entirely but only the Marathon returned a few weeks later. I wondered if they "tweaked" it for the newer 1250RS? A question only Wunderlich could answer.
@@daveyator I still have the old Marathon windshield and will surely try it an my new 1250 RS. Nice Bike, isn’t it? By the way, I often use a low shield, cut off by myself quite short so that the wind pressure is taken of from the breast but the airstream round the helmet is not disturbed by any edge of the shield. Greets from Aachen, Germany
They should make an entire mounting system to replace the stock one. The BMW mount simply isn't meant for a much bigger shield. This bike is a sport tourer but I'd say more sport than tourer and the windshield design is a product of that.
@@daveyator Thank you for a review. Do you think it would be better to get a Puig Touring screen? I really like this one though, looks great and better quality, but maybe Puig wouldn't vibrate that much, because it is thinner (4mm vs 5mm) and also narrower (but same high), so it is definitely lighter.
I put on an Aeroflow tall touring screen and clipped an MRA spoiler on top of that. I don’t feel any “vibration.’ There is flexing from the air but so what? Aeroflow is taller and wider than the Wunderlich, too. Can’t really put in low as it hits the mirror mounts tho
Hi, thanks for the video an given info. I have a cuestion you may already told about on the video but here I go. Is the high or up position of the original windshield same as the low or down position of the marathon windshield? Thank you!
Did it come with any rubber grommets for the mounting points? That would have knocked out some of the vibration.Still looks like a vast improvement over stock.
For me yes both for function and esthetics. My other thought was the Ztecknic but couldn’t get past the looks. Haven’t ridden with this enough to comment on fuel.
Thanks for the review. It's a better looking aftermarket wind screen than most. I wonder how much water it will deflect away from your body in the rain. The stock shield's top lip is pretty effective at that. I also wonder how long your Garmin GPS will last. I've had three replaced and the fourth unit failed this past fall. Good luck..
Wow. I've had my Nav VI for over five years (got it a year after I got my RT) with no issues. Haven't had the shield in the rain yet but I'm pretty sure you'd get some at your hands with it in high position in the high mounts.
Hi, i notice you haven't installed the cusion rubbers what the bolts sit in from the original screen to your new one. That could be why it's vibrating.
The screen came with its own rubber washers bolts, etc. I installed per the provided instructions and parts. When I say vibrate, I mean shield flexes a noticeable amount in the wind. Not bad, but noticeable. Unfortunately I crashed this bike recently so I can't comment much further on the installation. If I did get another one of these I would re purchase this windscreen.
@@ianjohnson7058 A long 5 month recovery. Texting driver took me out on the freeway. Contemplating the next bike. Liked the RS a lot but will probably go back to the RT if I do.
The stock windshield just looks wrong! Almost like they intentionally cut a vee notch so you would have to pay for the BMW touring windshield which I assume is mega expensive? If so that is just shameful IMO ...I had to replace the screen on my MT-10 for the same reason forking $250 out to Yamaha for the privlege
Doesn't sound very functional. Had to clip the top? Sounds like it doesn't exactly fit and hits your mirror mounts? I'd rather have something thoughtfully made to fit my bike correctly. If it happens to look okay too, that's a bonus.
