West Virginia head coach Neal Brown admitted that his team played very poorly against Penn State, and noted that only special teams did the Mountaineers put together a performance that gave them a chance to win
I didn't honestly expect a win, but I did expect a competitive game. With all the hype about being contenders, all the support from past players, commentators, and hell, even Nick Saban, you come out and shit on us all. It's just unbelievable.
These big games need to come to an end. Mountaineers need to play three easy teams one should be pitt one should be Marshall and someone else and then Big 12 Play. If we're good we play top tier teams in the playoff if not we don't play any. No other Big 12 team is playing top 25 ranked opponents. But it's time to rebuild the Mountaineer football program.
This guy is really complaining about replay when there are TWO critical replay c alls that the officials blew on 4 th down and they rewarded West Virginia one of the blown calls resulted in a touchdown so MISS ME with the excuses about blown calls. I find it funny he's even mentioning replay 😂😂😂
Nope, if he can't get them ready it's on him. He said they had two scrimmages that where they went through 120 plays and said they should be prepared as if they've played two full games already.@davidframe1613
We definitely benefitted especially when we definitely didn't get that first down and was probably a good yard short and they still gave us it. The refs helped us more than our own players and coach and he's still complaining 😅
100 percent the spotting of that first down was wrong, but Penn state was benefiting with a clear push off for a 63 yard gain instead leading to a td before half to go up 14, if the spotting of first down before half was called short as it should’ve been Penn st doesn’t necessarily score before half and it could’ve been a 10 point game going into half instead of a 14 point lead and giving Penn st all the momentum at half
NB underperformer AGAIN. We should NEVER complain about being rated LAST PLACE for anything. The way you get ranked is to perform and WIN particularly against tough opponents. Poor performance by nearly every part of the team which makes me think this is primarily coaching. Explain why this assessment is wrong ...................
So did wvu. Psu nearly took the punters leg off running into him which would have gotten wvu the first down on psu territory. They spotted the ball horribly multiple times. And Number 11 jump offsides multiple times on big plays but they only called it a few times. I'll admit, the refs gave wvu points, but they took even more away.
Due to the 2 hour delay at halftime, we had time to make some adjustments after we saw Franklin's gameplan/blueprint to contain our QB and offense. But I saw nothing.
The bad calls evened out. WVU got a touchdown they didn't score (albeit they would've been on the 12 inch line with another shot to score), they got a first down on 4th down that they shouldn't have got, and they got away with a clear targeting and a horse collar. Yes, they should've called pass interference on PSU for that play before the half. But all in all the officiating evened out, so nobody should be complaining.
I've hoped the same thing. I've wanted him gone since his first tumultuous year. He chokes, never has called a timeout right, doesn't know how to evaluate starters from non starters, and his play calling his hell
@@larrydwalker9575 I've said that for like the past 6 years. He don't even know when to use a timeout. Most unethical incompetent autistic coach I've fuckin ever seen
They should have been ready. We did better last year away. You have PITT at Pitt in two weeks. Get ready because if we play the way we did today, we're going to get tromped.
Unfortunately no one wants to go to WV such a craphole of a state. So we need a good coach to actually coach up players . Honestly it's just going to get worse. I mean Look at our basketball team lol
@@crflawnandlandscaping2285 We benefitted from every call and took a straight ass whooping! And then he still wants to make excuses when the refs clearly wanted us to win. Just fucked up
The referees did suck but West Virginia played completely embarrassing hats off to Penn State which seems to be a great team but it's like West Virginia didn't even show up to compete.
WVU was literally gifted that field goal before the half, absolutely did not make that first down, and got a touchdown when they were short in the endzone. Would they have scored the next down??? Probably; but it doesnt change the fact it was bad officiating
As a die hard Nittany Lions 🦁 fan, it's crazy, because I have taken heat on podcasts for 2 weeks plus, and I only hear they weren't ready and didn't play a good game!!!!! Why, don't anyone give my Nittany Lions the credit we deserve after all the shit talking!!!! And, your coach just said we have good players???? Lol No, we have elite talent and depth and you realize that!!!!
@@kevinchandler179 First off as a WVU fan, yes we are straight trash and got our ass whooped! You guys are also not good, you guys barely could beat Bowling Green at home, both of us will do very poor this year
@@taylorevans1199I don't think so. CU barely beat a FCS team, granted a very good FSC team. If Greene can keep improving WVU has the talent to do well in the B12. Coming from a PSU fan I felt WVU played better this year than last year.
I'm so ready to move on from Neil. I never thought I'd say this but I'd have Dana Holgorsen back at this point. At least we were ranked half the time and he had us ranked #6 at one point lol
C’mon coach… Wallace end of 1st half TD catch was a good one. The ball was not juggled… it moved because his hands moved and he had both hands on the ball the entire time. Grasping at straws is not a good look, when the refs gave WVU a 4th and 1 first down call it didn’t earn, and a TD it didn’t score.
What a bad look. He says he ultimately responsible then turns and blames staff, players and replay officials. He'll be looking for a job next year he better hope prospective employers don't see this whiny display
Coach throwing players under the bus and blaming refs. Ugly look. Blaming replay and ignoring the fact that bad ref calls gave us 10 points (TD and 4th down call for a first down in first half that led to 3). Cmon coach, be better.
Nice to see your objectively here. That doesn't happen very often. Man, I remember this series when I was I school. I'll be rooting for you this season.
We never had a good quarter. All the quarters sucked and we all knew what the result would be. Couldn't believe once we kicked our field goal then decide to give up a 70 yard bomb from Penn State to stretch their lead before half
@@jakobwetzel7065Penn state also loses 20 points and WVU gets 3 drives back. Both can be true at the same time WVU didn’t play good and refs were making sure Penn state won that game.
He had 1 mediocre season by avoiding texas and the 2 kansas schools last year and people actually think that he’s a good coach. This is what happens when you trust a never-ending fall for 5 years!
UNC football team didn't even show up for the bowl game just like FSU didn't show up for the Georgia game. I knew after Oklahoma took us apart and Dana's Houston beat us 🤮🤮🤮 that we weren't very good last year but people kept saying we were. 6 years of nothing.
We need a really really good coach bc not one good player would want to go to wvu . A good coach h might bring in actual 4 star player but at this point no one with talent wants to go to WV
We're not going to get rid of him by yelling fire him you got to yell fire Wren Baker. Put Baker in the hot seat. Don't worry about Neal Brown, tell Baker build us a football team or get out of here.
@@davidframe1613 Wren is scared to finally make a decision, as soon as he does and he hires someone new and they fuck up as bad has he does he knows his time will be up.
Under 1 minute to go before half, you see Penn state has one time out. It’s 3rd and 2 and we throw the ball instead of running forcing them to use their timeout.
Someone please explain to me why he went for 2 after scoring that touchdown. I must be missing something but kicking the extra point makes it a 14 point game. Going for 2 and missing it just makes you have to go for 2 again and even if you get it what significance is a 13 point deficit from 14?
Been a mountain fan since I was a little boy in West Virginia. 73 now. Still love my mounties despite their poor showing against Penn State keep the faith and hope.things get better.
No Garrett green is good but was very badly coached and some of the play calls were horrible running the ball when we should have been throwing it. Just bad coaching all around
I saw a good comment on facebook where a guy said this will be his last season for sure. He either has a good season and leaves for greener pastures or has his typical season and is fired.
When you make the money he makes you're going to get told about it. When you're horrible at your job and you make a lot of money everyone will remind you everyday about it.
He's like well we played like shit, we got our asses kicked once again. I know what I'm doing yet I don't. I'm just the coach. He's a fuckin terrible analyst lol
Not having our guys prepared to play the biggest home opener in 30 years is appalling. To not even be competitive in any aspect of the game in front of a home crowd like that, come on coach. You need to be better
I predicted this at the end of last year… The problem is that WVU fans are hungry for hope and NB IS NOT THE ANSWER.. we have been beaten SOUNDLY by every good team we play. He has NEVER beaten a team that was much better than average in 4 years. The Improvements with NB have been very very minor each year… What I’m saying IS NOT debatable. Facts are facts. I love NB as a person but at some point actual results speak louder than words.
He is the coach didn't have them prepared and many missed calls especially not kicking field goals and going for it on 4th and 1. Any football person knows you take the points and move on.
@@brandongribbleyour right but they are his guys and he and his staff coach em up! I hate being brutally honest about all this in my posts because he’s a great guy. But obviously it’s not working.
Yes he's been doing this for 6 years somehow we can get rid of him. At West Virginia we way over pay coaches in their contracts that are not proven so we get stuck having to keep them until the contract runs out. I would rather see performance pay contracts. 😁
By the way Neal Brown just so you know 4th and one with in field goal range you can always kick a field goal. It's called momentum you take the three points and you don't come away with nothing.
@6:51 "They didn't necessarily beat us" Umm, YES we did. PSU dominated this game and the talent gap between the two teams was obvious. Even if WVU "executed" it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game.
So instead of scheming during the rain and lightning delay and actually working on a gameplay you sat and rewatched the first half of football instead of trying to fix it? What a joke. lol
I really feel for you on that one. Nowhere near the same but a few years ago a spent about $250 to leave mad at halftime against OU when they straight up took us to school in a hyped up game. Safe travels home.
I was feeling really bad seeing my lifetime football team getting ran over by Penn State but after you saying you spent $4,000 to watch that embarrassment. I feel a lot better thank you. 😁 Hopefully that $4,000 wasn't your life savings. If it was don't reply I don't want to feel bad again. 😁
The Vegas oddsmakers had PSU as only a 7.5 favorite at game time. No one expected our offense to be shutdown as PSU's defense did. No one expected a 2.5 hour delay due to lightning. The hype over this game was awesome beginning Friday afternoon with the Pat McAfee show and continued through Saturday morning with the FOX GameDay coverage. I was disappointed too sitting on my couch 70 miles North of Morgantown. No, the game did not work out the way we anticipated but it was good to see that all the pieces of fan support are still in place for that day when can celebrate a winning program by storming the football field and tearing down the goalposts. I can remeber those days and those fond memories when living in Boreman Hal as a Freshmanl, at The Towers as an RA and at my frat house on High Street. I feel for you.
If you want to talk about the officiating. let's not forget the obvious targeting on Singleton that wasn't called. The officials practically gave you 9 points.
I knew within 10 seconds it was going to be the same old bs from Neal Brown. They played bad because he's a poor leader, poor play caller, and doesn't inspire his players to rise to the occasion. Absolutey embarassing day to be a mountaineer, the state deserves better, and should expect better. Every game against a top team is like this, we hold the best to the nation to under 30 but can't move the ball to keep us in the game. Wtf is the point of all the excuses time and time again when nothing changes. He has to go, it's not the players, it's the coaching.
I knew all last year we was way over hyped Oklahoma's ran us over Dana's Houston team beat us and unc's players did not show up for the game just like FSU against Georgia. But us Mountaineers have to learn the hard way. We hard-headed people
@davidframe1613 the crazy thing is every time the program has showed progress under him they regress the next season. The guy isn't developing anything but a complacency towards being average at best.
Marshall plays Virginia tech next week I think show has beat Virginia tech 2 years in a row now then they play Ohio State and then the beginning of next year they play the Georgia bulldogs.
WHATS A SIGNATURE WIN????? Well ok beating a RANKED OPPONENT! Here is an example VT (#3) 7 WVU 28 Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma all in Bowl Games when the team stayed together and played!
The larger problem is the gross disrespect being put upon the people and the state of WV by holding on to such grow ineptness in the sports dept. There is no real desire to win.
I don't even look forward to WVU football anymore. Who wants to think they have a chance and lose every game. Neil is a salesman not a coach. He doesn't win and embarrasses our state every game. God forbid if we would've signed up to play Georgia or Ohio State. They have real coaches that's why they never lose. We deserve better! Our season seems to be over first game every year
Good point but the funny thing and you saying that Marshall plays Virginia tech next game and then they play Ohio State and then the first game of next year is the Georgia bulldogs. I'm just glad we don't play Marshall at this point.
The only way were going to see a good team is to start by getting rid Neil. Neil doesnt fire up our players like he needs to. We go into every game with no confidence or leadership and we never can bring consistency. Our players dont have the tools to win. We need to get Dabbo Swinney or someone that can get us back on track
Ugh a disappointment, been calling for him to be fired for 3 years now... Just sad to see our Mountaineers being a pathetic shell of what we use to be... So tired of Neal Brown
Same here but we need to stop calling for Neal Brown to be fired tell Wren baker build us a football team or get out of here. West Virginia is football and if Baker can get the job done he needs to go back to Texas or wherever he came from. West Virginia spending all this money and getting disrespected.
@davidframe1613 yea maybe, but 90% of the losses have been Neal browns coaching... We had talent and was winning before him and the same group when to nothing when he came aboard and has been failing ever year since... He absolutely needs fired and we need to get back to being the pride of WV, not the laughing stock... Fucking hate Neal Brown and the pathetic job he has done since being the head coach... he is a bum and needs to go back to the lower tier of college football, because he can't hack it in the big conferences... Absolutely terrible coach
I’ve been saying that all spring and summer we dodged a lot of good teams and played a few overrated teams last year we are the same team we have been the last six years .500 average and more than likely a bowl loss so I’m gonna say 6-7 at years end
Penn State fan here. Surprised no one asked about the decision to receive the opening kick…you got a raucous crowd and Garrett Greene trying to quiet them on your first opossession. Dunno why Brown didn’t defer and get the crowd in it with our offense out there first. Wouldn’t have made too much of a difference but curious what the strategy was there.
Don’t give Kneel brown too much credit for the term “strategy”.. he’s not big on that. We call him Kneel btw because one time he ran a qb kneel on an extra point because “analytics”
Not sure why WV fans are so pissed. WV doesn't have the talent to compete with a PSU. Never will. WV will have a good year by the standards they should have, 7-8 wins.
But why did we use to beat half of the top 5 teams we encountered and was ranked #6 back right before Holgorsen left when Will Grier was at QB. We were a top program. We were about like Oklahoma the past 10 years
Wren Baker, Neal Brown and with NIL everyone is making too much money to put on a show like that. It was completely embarrassing for the State. If we can't even come close to beating teams like Penn State, Alabama and Tennessee then don't schedule them. Go with Pitt and Marshall instead. If we can't compete with the big teams don't schedule them. Do like the rest of the Big 12 does, schedule weak teams and just try to win the conference. 6 years and this is what we get???
I have many questions regarding this coaching staff. One blunder was the long pass late in the 1st half, how the heck are you in some one on one situation 60 yds down field, maybe should have been in quarters coverage...you think ??? and then score is 27 - 6 we score a TD and he goes for 2 WTF for, sorry folks but this staff will not turn it around.
ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!!!!! 1000000%. A child would know it. But he's been guilty of the same issues for many, many games. The game is simply too fast for him. He's an administrator (@ best). That play obliterated any chances. Does anyone else feel its like groundhog day?
Lol quit your crying. West Virginia was gifted a first down that was clearly short and even went to reply. Even the broadcast team called it out. Throwing players under the bus and blaming refs. Why anyone eould want to play for this guy is betond me
How can he say the refs were good when the first punt they annihilated the punter and no call and multiple missed calls for both teams and here’s the kicker…. WITH REPLAY! Like wow! Not why they lost hell they got helped as much as screwed.
That's one of the worst refereed games I've seen in a while. They had to be a big ten crew but it still wouldn't have changed the outcome it was just embarrassing.
Guys, it's the first game against the 8th best team in the country, arguably top 5. We are not going to play anyone close to PSU caliber the whole rest of the season. We played PSU better than Florida played Miami, and Clemson played Georgia. Stop acting like we dropped a game to some FCS team. Our biggest problem is always starting a season against a top caliber opponent instead of doing like the vast majority of P4 teams and open up with a layup to work out kinks and schemes. We still have the chance to play and beat 4 top 25 teams if they keep winning. Yes, we have to eat crow from being overly confident, but why are we acting like the season is already over?
@davidframe1613 Be a fair weather fan, then my dude, that's your call, but people act like we are Alabama or Geogia or something. Our best years were almost two decades ago, and we are not a power house. However, if we get blown out in conference play, then cool, I'm with the rest of you all. This is nothing but overreacting because of all the hype we placed on ourselves. We lost this game just as bad last year and ended 9-4. This game literally means nothing to our season, absolutely nothing. It's not the end of the world.
Whining about replay (for example) is an indication of a program (or coach) not yet ready for prime time. The whining sounds like Narduzzi after a Pitt loss.
I’m a PSU fan but lived in WV for a while, so I have respect for the state and the fans. But after that press conference I would be ashamed of your head coach, PSU was clearly the better team and bad refs benefited both teams. But all the excuses and whining by your head coach was embarrassing, WVU you deserve better.
It wasn't what WVU fans hoped for, but, PSU is good, Natty talk and that. HCNB has got a good shot at redemption if we snot-beat Pitt. I'll wait till then. Jordan Leslie, on the other hand......
It’s astonishing that this guy even talked about the officiating. I get that there were bad calls but they went both ways. 9 of their 12 points came from terrible officiating lol.
Neal Brown complaining about replay in this game is comical. They had a field goal that never would have happened if replay had got one call correct and the only touchdown that WVU scored never went to replay after being down short of the endzone.
So during the weather break it sounds like Coach NB was replaying the Penn State touchdown over and over to watch if it was a touchdown. I think time could have been better spent no?
I'm no longer excited about the season. Best of luck, someone let me know how WVU did come December as I'm tuning out now to avoid the pain of watching!
It's been 6 years now and the same excuses...simple...can't win a big game against a top 10 team...We loose to PITT in 2 weeks and its going to be a long season and lots of questions in Nov.!!!!!!
My 81yr old father and I paid around $1100 for great tickets - he told me that would probably be his last trip to Morgantown and he just knew that his Mountaineers would win. After seeing that shit show, I'm with dad... I'll never go back, at least as long as Neil Brown is coach. I'm am so embarrassed on a National level, especially after all the coverage on TV, all the hype.. Disappointment can not describe our rainy drive home.
I saw it happening when as usual we take the ball first instead of defering until 2nd half ! Then instead of Hudson returning kick offs like we were told Trey is back there ! Why not play Nicco when Green is struggling ? Coach Brown never shows up in big games ! Goes for it on 4 down and calls hand off up the middle of sneak when everyone knows what he doing ! What a let down !
Well Coach, I appreciate you taking responsibility finally, but it's your job to make sure they're ready. You've got Pitt at Pitt in two weeks. You got to do better than this.
My concern is that PSU exposed a game plan and blueprint to shutdown the WVU offense and contain QB Greene in the pocket. With the film available, all future opponents may use the same blueprint to shutdown our offense. Granted that most our future opponents do not have the defense of PSU but some rivals may attempt to use the same tactics and make life difficult for Greene. We had a long, long delay (over two hours) but I did not see any halftime adjustments to counter Franklin's gameplan. How do we fix what was exposed today by PSU?
Neal Brown just isn’t made for this job. Maybe somewhere where he has big time recruits, but WVU will never get those. We need someone who is creative with the X’s and O’s and aggressive at times. He’s just not that guy. Penn State was a much better team, but no reason we shouldn’t keep it competitive.
U damn rite we do... The Pat McCafe show talked too much smack n built them talking Greene for Heisman... And disrespected Penn State and they kicked out ass
