* At the end of the video I have put the kokarden back on the wrong side so to be clear, Reichskokarde goes on the right side, Landeskokarde on the left side.*
First of all... 100 subscribers!!!
Thank you all so much, I never thought so many people would enjoy my videos. And I really like making these videos to share my passion for history and militaria with you. It really motivates me to keep making these videos and improve my skills in filming, editing and finding interesting stuff to show you guys. So again... thank you!!
Something else now, i've decided to stop using background music in my videos. It's hard to find the right song for a video, choices of music are a bit limited and then some people just don't like the music.
Now back on topic... the Prussian M1915 pickelhaube.
I recently added this one to my collection but I wasn't very happy with it's condition so decided to clean it up.
Not much work but you have to be a bit carefull not to damage anything.
I'm very pleased with the result I have to say.
Thanks for watching and if you enjoyed the video please like and/or subscribe for more ww1 and ww2 stuff.

After over 100 years, this helmet is an amazing example! A labor of love. Thank You!

I agree with Dogsoldier 1950, it needs some form of leather food to stop the cracking becoming worse! Also the inner leather liner looks to be starting to dry out and curl up, that needs attention too before it gets any worse!!!

What do you recommend as remedies for these issues, I have a pair of helmets that could use some attention.

It's great, a nice helmet, getting cleaned, and best, no stupid music

Application of Beeswax to the areas of cracking, will help to fill in the surface fractures and promote a smoother appearance. Great Video BTW 😃👌👌

The First models of Helm mit Spitze ( Please NO Pickelhaube - pickaxehood), had shape of Custodian helmet, still used by english and welsh Police. This high shape, the spike and fixing cross of Brass should deflect a saber Blow, also leather was at First high models thivker than Last Versions, which had also been smaller.

I would think something such as neatsfoot oil, which I use on leather bicycle seats, would help with drying and cracking.

Well, you also must remember, there is the difference between new and old leather, different qualities in it, and things like that, so I see what you're getting at, but when a decent Pickelhaube costs upwards of $750, it's best not to risk it. However, I do not know much about leather care, for all I know, you could be right.

Kokarde back to front and you can tighten strap easily to fit. ...you can see the bends in strap where buckles used to be

A Jäger Regiment 77 doesn't exist here in Germany. JR 77 stand for Infanterie Regiment 77

Hi Sven and thank you for the info, since I made the video I have indeed learned that the J stamp often actually is an I.

The cockades are after the cleaning on the wrong side. The long chinstrap with metal pieces were used for steel helmets. Great job mate 👍🏻and now a nice and clean helmet in great condition
