The Poles were very aware of the capabilities for tanks but the myth of the Polish lancers charging German tanks isn't that far from the truth. The Polish did use lancers but they generally fought dismounted. They also no longer carried lances but did keep their sabers. Colonel Kazimierz Mastalerz was a particularly battle-hardened cavalry officer and veteran of the Austro-Hungarian army in World War I as well as the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-1921. Mastalerz knew surprise was his only edge. Early in the war, he ordered the 18th Pomeranian Uhlan Regiment, supported by a small number of TSK/TK-3 tankettes, to draw their sabres and charge the unprepared ranks of the Germans near Krojanty. They did scatter the German infantry but German armored cars emerged from the forest road and shot up the Polish cavalry killing one or two dozen of them as well as Mastalerz. The closest situation to the myth is when a Polish cavalry column go lost in the smoke, Captain Jerzy Hollak’s lancers found themselves in the middle of a German tank column. Amazingly, they punched straight through the startled Germans and seized the high ground and forced the Panzers to withdraw. Hollak’s unlikely victory, however, was fleeting and they were driven off soon after.

Give me some cheese.

@@HolgerLovesMusic I am aware of the German warning about the Lusitania. I've even heard the suspicion that the Royal Navy "accidentally" depth-charged the wreck between the wars or during WW2, in order to destroy any remaining munitions. My second sentence only makes sense if you were arguing the moon is made of cheese, which you obviously were not. It was a dumb thing to write. I did not intend to accuse you of being crazy, just rude.

@lucasharvey8990
@lucasharvey8990 2 года назад
@@JPMadden I agree. He went more in-depth about it than what his name would suggest. I think he could have made it around 25 minutes long instead of 38 without losing anything substantial to the lesson or the humor. At times it almost seemed like he was overexplaining things and I wanted him to move on. But still, minor nitpicks like ours don't mean that we dislike it. It's obvious that he poured his heart and soul into making the video as funny as he could, and the Blokes will appreciate that just as much as we do.

The Polish Cavalry charge on tanks has gone around for a long time. The Polish Cavalry did out maneuver many German units. And the Polish army in general did make a good account of itself. But with overwhelming odds there is little they could do realistically. I had learned in US schools that when we entered the war we only had a slight impact on the war. I then learned that many of the warring powers were fully depleted & sick of it all and the US had more of an effect than we were taught. And so when the next round of hyper inflation comes around, like it did in post WW1 Germany, have we learned not to grab for the first mustached fanatic that can make it better? Of course not. When the US or UK or any other country has it's people starving, we will grab for the first Hitler that comes our way.

I mean we won the war in the west but the British weren’t invaded. I would call it a victory for them as well. The only reason I could imagine them not teaching it is not wanting anti-German sentiment to rise. European peace was a high priority post war and I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s the reason.

Britain promised my people, the Assyrians (ancient natives of Iraq, Iran, parts of Turkey - Christians) a sovereign land if they fought on their behalf. More than half our population were slaughtered by the Ottoman Empire. There was a massive virgin suicide of Assyrian and Armenian women instead of being kidnapped and forced into Muslim marriages. Britain had offered the same land (both WW1 & WW2) to the Kurds, basically pitting two nations against each other, leading to more deaths. Barely a few thousand Assyrians left, most of the men were gone. Britain then offered some land in Brazil, in the middle of the rainforest where head hunting was still practiced. Our Bishop nearly took the offer, not knowing it would finish our people off. Many ran off to various countries, many went to Russia where my mother was born in a work camp. Lots of people suffered on behalf of Britain and then America too, just to dwindle down to nothing.

Around 10 min in, you describe war as being just a land gtab. Very true. I remember a Tom Clancy novel from many years ago that described war as "armed robbery writ large," which seems like a perfect description. It's nothing more than sovereign states saying "I want what you have (land, resources, people, whatever) so I'm taking it because I have weapons."

Interesting discussion you guys had at the end, there. I wish this video mentioned it as it teased WWII but the Treaty of Versailles that officially ended WWI pinned all the blame on Germany and their punishments were too harsh for the country to handle before the next generation came along. The punishments the West levied on Germany are what created the conditions for someone like Hitler to rise to power. Germany was a shell of itself, full of unemployment and starvation until the Nazis came around. They gave them hope for the first time in a decade. They gave people jobs working on building their military, adding to their ranks, and said "up yours" to the constraints of the Treaty of Versailles that was keeping their economy down. Of course, the Nazis knew they were taking advantage of such conditions and capitalizing on the desperation of the people and the rest is history.

"Country split into two" This glosses over the illegal occupation the Brits did of various islands/regions of Greece, something they admonished Germany for, when they did it to Belgium.
@DannL18

A commonly missed point in this as well is that disease tore through the allied camps on these islands. It’s honestly surprising that the allies didn’t consider abandoning their positions due to casualty rates north of 50% from disease alone

There are some things slightly wrong with these two oversimplified videos of WW1. 1. first of all Germany didn’t want more stuff from other countries before WW1 (at least not Bismarck), that is more likely ally propaganda. 2. Alsace Lorraine (Elsaß-Lothringen) never belonged to France in the first place, it was German for over thousand years (all the place and cities names are German, the architecture is German), there was literally no reason for France to „get it back“. 3. 4:22 Germany warned the British and Americans that they should not go into this area of the northern sea because it was a war zone. Also a few years ago scientist found a lot of weapons on the seabed at the place where the Lusitania sunk, the allies did try to smuggle weapons on the ship, so the attack by the Germans was definitely reasonable. 4. Not really a fact but Britain should be the last country to tell other European countries that they „shouldn’t invade“ neutral countries. That’s exactly what Britain was doing for decades. They colonized and invaded countries around the world to profit from the resources they found there.😅
