They made right side drive trucks in Germany? Look at that super sexy CMP still on the transporter!!!!

It's described as a replica. He says it uses tracks from a British bren gun carrier. Given New Zealand drives on the left he's probably converted an old British built Ford. German and British built Fords trucks of that time period were often built to the same designs.

My Grandfather worked for Ford all through the war. Ford was the number one builder there in Germany through out the war.They turned a profit and Henry profited by it greatly. They only bombed the factory in the last week of the war . After the war he returned to Cleveland to establish car dealerships all around the USA

Do manufacturers still build half-truck vehicles like this one today?
@SmartassX1
@SmartassX1 3 года назад
For a lonbg time they did not, but I've seen an advertisement on youtube for a dump truck that has large rubber tracks for offroad use and a liftable set of extra wheels that are attached to the rear end for road use, so it could drive as front wheel drive with the tracks in the air when it's empty. I can't remember the company that does it.

isn't tracks a bit too loose? I feel like it's gonna bugger off when it tries to turn while negotiating a bumpy road

You could fit much wider tracks for crappy soft terrain
@princeofcupspoc9073
@princeofcupspoc9073 5 лет назад
Tracks are tricky. If wider, they might slip off when you try to turn.

Not an issue in the US. Study titling special construction vehicles. If you are serious join the MVPA and visit the Steel Soldiers forum, but you had better know your shit because they (as they must to chase off stupid teentards like the sort so common on RU-vid) moderate thoroughly and tolerate ZERO off-topic posts. You should have about fifty thousand dollars to spare and/or be VERY good at fabrication and welding.

I assume the front wheels are unpowered? as far as i could tell from a glance on these shots that is.
@historicalmachines

Correct. From wheels are not drive wheels at all.

Useful information. You'll see amma a bit of a hobby 3D artist and was pondering the idea of a light halftrack all terrain tank with short tracks and rear mounted steering wheel. Wouldnt be a light vehicle anymore if i had to power the wheel as well.

Interesting, but no German markings? or was this the color it used to have?
@themigmadmarine
@themigmadmarine 9 лет назад
pongboy1100 Well, German logistic vehicles like this often bore no markings aside from unit markings, and those were sometimes left off later in the war to get them out of the factory quicker. As for the color, that is correct, as dark yellow (dunkelgelb) was the factory standard color for any vehicle produced post mid 1942, with units applying their own camouflage in the field, but this was often not done for various reasons.

USA halftracks have been used as troop transporters, as well as towing howitzers(like everything else) and fitted with anti aircraft turrets, you get a truck on a 1+ ton frame with better off road capabilities than 4wd, less likely to sink in mud and is more likely to pull itself out, and they were build on top of existing commercial trucks so production was cheap, and design phase was fast. I watch a vid where the museum curator of a military vehicle museum said the half track was one of the easiest vehicles to drive they had. If you could drive commercial trucks at the time you could hop in a halftrack.
