'Quick' recap of the previous events: The story began in the sixteenth century. After Poland, Spain, Denmark, and Britain dismantled the Holy Roman Empire, the last major threat to the invaders was eliminated. The subsequent Ten Years' War saw Spain and Britain inflict significant damage on the Dutch Empire, allowing them to establish a dominant presence in the American colonies, except for Russian territories. Despite the Napoleonic Wars and the subsequent decolonization of America-excluding Russian holdings-the empires remained robust, replacing lost colonies with new territories in Africa. The 19th century was marked by nationalism and relative peace in Europe, except for the Ottoman Empire's dire situation until the 1880s. In 1882, the German Confederation was unified under the Habsburg Dynasty, with its seat in Frankfurt. Resentful of the Empires that had dismantled the Holy Roman Empire and controlled Germany's most valuable regions, Westphalen and Brandenburg, the newly formed German Empire sought revenge. They allied with France, a historical ally eager to retaliate against Spain, their long-standing rival. The Netherlands also joined this coalition, seeking retribution for the Ten Years' War. Additionally, the Persian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and surprisingly the Italian Empire began negotiations to ally. Each harbored grievances against Poland and Britain for their aggressive colonial and expansionist policies. Though these powers would have liked to declare war on Spain, France, Britain, Denmark, Sweden, and Greece, they were constrained by the resources and manpower depleted in previous conflicts with these very Empires. The situation shifted dramatically when the Russian Federation intervened. Recognizing the strategic opportunity, Russia offered support, confident that their advanced modern technology and adept diplomacy could tip the balance of power. Following the abrupt end of a century-long European 'peace' (a term that remains contentious), Poland ignited the conflict by crossing the Shar Mountains on July 10, 1914, breaching the border with the Ottoman Empire. Within less than 15 days, war engulfed all of Europe, with Switzerland being the sole exception. Despite initial successes-such as the rapid capture of Paris, Amsterdam, Orléans, Brest, and Nancy, and the swift overrunning of much of Germany-the tide of the war began to turn. Sweden struggled to contain the Russian advance in Scandinavia, culminating in the fall of Copenhagen on March 10, 1916. Outside of Europe, the conflict spread significantly. In China, the British managed to persuade the country to join their side, only for Russia to counter by convincing Japan to support their cause. This alliance shift led to the fall of Shanghai on September 25, 1915, forcing China to surrender. Although Russia and Italy emerged as prominent forces on their side, their position seemed precarious until Japan intervened, reaching Europe in 1917. Japanese troops bolstered the fronts, reinvigorating the war effort and challenging the great powers. The overextension of the Spanish and British Empires became apparent as they struggled with dwindling manpower. On September 17, 1918, Japanese, French, and Russian forces crossed the Pyrenees, leading to Spain's surrender on January 30, 1919. Warsaw fell on June 6, 1920, forcing Poland to capitulate, and on April 16, 1920, Britain signed the treaty that officially ended the war. The aftermath of the war left the defeated nations in financial ruin, their democratic governments weakened and ineffective. The victors, having achieved their goals, largely stood by as fascism and communism swept through Europe. A similar conflict erupted 15 years later, resulting in even greater financial devastation and further collapse of governments. Fearing another devastating war, the democracies focused on rebuilding, though Britain descended into chaotic anarchy. As time passed, the relationship between Monarchies and Republics deteriorated. Once close allies, Japan and Russia had become fierce adversaries, their mutual enmity growing. This tension eventually sparked a new conflict in 1979, ignited by the Mongolian Ultimatum. Throughout these upheavals, the USA emerged as an economic powerhouse, surpassing all other nations in wealth. Despite its vast financial resources, American political influence remained overshadowed by Russia. With Mongolia, a key American trading partner, now under threat, the global balance of power was once again in flux.
