Chyna not only passed away from an OD, she also died of a broken heart. So sad and heartbreaking the way that she passed away. Even more gutwrenchingly pathetic was that out of all of the D Generation-X members, the only one that attended her funeral was Sean "Xpac" Waltman. R.I.P. Chyna, the wrestling community will forever miss you.....
Not even billy gunn??? I thought them two were the best of friends. I bet if wrestling fans knew of the funeral hundreds would probably would have went
Had the biggest crush on chyna look at her she had the look the body the size she was dominant in and out of the ring with playboy covers being the first woman to enter the men's royal rumble match she also won the intercontinental Championship and the wwf women's Championship she was a true trailblazer and icon RIP ninth wonder of the world gone but never forgotten 🙏🕊❤
I actually passed by her book, which was in a stand in the store I was in. I paused and read a few paragraphs and I could almost hear her words in what was written. There was a soulful sadness to it that I have never forgotten. She was a lovely person through and through.
You see how fickle that is? You gotta bring down others while trying to compliment her? & wonder why suicide is so rampant. Chyna was so awesome & there’s also a ton of awesome strongwoman today
So you compliment Chyna but trash the women now and call them wannabes because they're doing their job? Because they happen to be women who wrestle for the same company Chyna did? Make it make sense.
Chyna vs Jacqueline was such a missed opportunity not going to lie can you imagine having this two powerful women warring over the WWE Women’s Title during 2001. And then maybe even send her with a proper send off by having Jazz be the one to defeat Chyna for the WWE Women’s Title and introduce a new dominant force in the women’s division.
Man we need a women like that. She very genuine loyal trustworthy and loves big. Smh why did have to leave with a broken heart I wish I had the chance to talk to her to change that broken heart. She's so great and always will be.
She just had this charismatic presence. She didn't have to say a word and she instantly had everyone's attention. Kind of a blessing and a curse, really
As little girls, my sisters and I loved Chyna! She was a pioneer for women in the wrestling industry. I feel bad that she was done wrong. Rest in peace Joanie! ♥️😢🙏🕊️
This woman had a kind heart and a kind soul. She was done so beyond dirty, it's insane. But her legacy is all over the Women's Division, you can NEVER deny that.
She also brought it on herself it was reported that she was insanely difficult to work with especially after fighting and winning male championships she definitely had a trailblazing career but at that time she couldn’t go any further.
@@jordanflores5687I don’t know anything about wrestling, because of the fact it’s homoerotic lol but I do know about Chyna! Never seen any of the matches but she was above any other wrestler at that time. So yeah, she made that whole “attitude era”! Despite being buried by the company, many people still remember her. She was awesome, too bad women were not supposed to be better than men at that time, that was her only fault.
@@SunnyDiegoProduction well you admitted to not knowing so I can't blame you for being 100000% wrong how you can form an opinion without knowing anything about wrestling is confusing but ok she didn't make the attitude era sorry and women aren't better than men not in that field
I remember watching this documentary when it came out and crying my eyes out by the time it ended. I wasn’t watching when she was at her peak, but her story is one of the saddest stories in wrestling. She had everything and lost it all. All because she was betrayed by the man she loved. I truly believe she never got over that, and that’s what led to her downfall. What Stephanie and Paul did was really messed up. The least they could have done for her was apologize and gave her the induction she deserved when she was still here.
From the various docs I watched this summer about her, I think Paul was just one of many men that let her down and broke her. First was her father then Paul and those around her that failed her or only furthered her along that destructive path. Even X-Pax said they shouldn't have been together as they were both heavily addicted to drugs at the time they were together. I had thought she was doing well in China (or Japan, can't remember where she was at before coming back to USA) but seems she was spiraling there as well with a s*icide attempt but then that "manager" that seemed more interested in his own agenda instead when she came back to America, only furthered her to her end. She wasn't ready for a comeback but he kept pushing her and still has her ashes that he's making money on (unless he finally relinquished them to her mother).
Jean-Paul Levesque didn’t love her as much as she loved him, bottom line. Furthermore, I think he used her as a stepping stone, knowing all too well that she could draw nuclear heat, and she did. I attended several live shows in 98, and believe me, SHE was the one getting the cheers and the heat, not Triple H
That's Paul for you, he wouldn't ever have been as big of a name had he not used others. Chyna, Shawn,/DX, Stephanie, and Vince all pushed him way further than he'd ever have gone otherwise. He's a good talent and had passion for the business, but that's it, just "good", every other person he ever teamed with was the real big draw, and Steph/Vince was just his ticket to politic his way into title reigns.
Wrong. He was gettibng a heavy push from the office regardless of Chyna. They wer egoing to amke him main event by hook or crook.CHyna was irrelevant to that.
Whats even more horrible was that when Chyna was fired from WWF, the contracts at the time did not allow wrestlers to move over to over companies for at least a couple of years due to wcw vs wwf. So her downward spiral was also led due to her not being able to continue her art and to wrestle. Its so sad. They took her man and her passion of wrestling. RIP
I will never be able to wrap my mind around that someone who is an "Independent Contractor" still have to abide by company rules when the company releases them back into the world..
Idk if you are aware of this, but when she left WWE she went to New Japan, one of the first women wrestlers there. She wrestled Chono, Liger and even Hiroshi Tanahashi. But supposedly X-Pac brought her drugs during that ran and that was that.
@@jayford5533 I am of the belief that HHH pushing women’s wrestling to the moon in WWE and putting over wrestlers like Rhea Ripley is his way of paying tribute to chyna. In a way it’s incredibly sweet 🥹
Wrong. She DETESTED womens wreslting. She saw it as beneath her. She saw it as a demotion. She did NOTHING for womens wrestling because she looked down her nose at it. Try again.
@@chriskay1449 regardless of what she may or may not have thought of women’s wrestling at the time that still doesn’t take away the fact she is probably one of the biggest if not the biggest influence on women’s wrestling of all time. She probably turned her nose at women’s wrestling in the 90s because 1. There practically wasn’t any divison to compete in and 2. No one was on her level at the time besides maybe Alundra Blaze. Who unfortunately was long gone from wwe by the time Chyna got there.
She deserves a stand alone spot in the Hall of Fame. It’s nice to see that she was inducted as part of DX. Maybe that was their way of putting her in. They did her dirty. The most they could do is give her the true recognition she deserves. Without Chyna, would we have someone like Rhea Ripley for example? Ask yourself that. RIP Chyna. A true legend and inspiration to all women.
They use porn as the excuse when they induct Sable, Torrie Wilson etc who’ve all been in playboy and showed tits which is porn. She damn well should be there.
Chyna's story mirrors that of early athletes that broke the color barrier in some ways. Without Chyna, we probably don't have awesome Superstars like Beth Pheonix, Bianca Belair or Rhea Ripley.
Chyna will always be an icon . First woman to enter royal rumble , first women to win the intercontinental championship , first women to enter king of the ring, highest selling playboy , and she really brought a unique talent to women’s wrestling . Back in the 90s women were having bra and panties matches but Chyna was body slamming guys . ❤❤❤RIP Chyna ❤❤
@@bigchees3850 lol yet she was inspiration of plenty of female stars like Beth Phoenix , Rhea Ripley , Kamille , Raquel Rodriguez & even Jade Cargill . So nope she was not even like Nia Jax who always injured every talents nonstop
@tamzidmohsinkhan3333 dude, go look at her track record. Can say she's worse than nia. Literally everyone she worked got hurt nia only injures 90% of her opponents lol
She is a big part of my childhood. I started watching Wrestling in 1997 just before the DX angle begun. She was a major player in the attitude era, she was still likeable when she dropped down to the women’s division. Alas she was removed out from the then WWF so unceremoniously. She deserved better.
@@chlorophyll6154 Triple H betrayed her. The guy is a straight up snake with no loyalty to anyone but himself. God knows how many Wrestler's he screwed over to climb that corporate ladder. If I were a Wrestler in the WWE he'd be the last person I would trust.
@@masonorosco1090 clearly you never watched WWE, you just sympathy with this girl Vice milk on, you're truly disgusting when you don't ever know anything, Chyna ruined her own career, first of all she was stiff and unsafe to work with and the biggest reason during the peak of her career, for some reason she thinks it wise to make a pron video with X Pac, WWE management did a lot of effort to delete all the copies, this was first major things she did during under contract with WWE, still Triple H fault?
She was perfect the way she was. She didn’t need to change anything. I wish she felt the same and it really makes me sad how she was treated. Literally a one in a million.
He was so vile towards Chyna. To her face and behind her back. He tried to get Steph and HHH to slag her off on his show and they both wouldn't go there.
It pisses me off Triple H gets so much praise for starting the "Women's resolution" in wrestling. Forgetting how he blackballed his ex from the business and cheated on her to shack up with the boss's daughter.
LOL he in no way blackballed her. She blackballed herself with her massive drug habit and he wasn't married to her, so he wasn't cheating either. YOu Chyna stans are so far removed from reality it is pure LOL.
From what I've heard the both of them had a very toxic relationship. Forgot who said it, I think it was one of her friends? I mean I understand HHH no longer wanting a part in it but, he should have ended it better than that instead of cheating on her. I can understand wanting out but cheating?
RIP. She was awesome bro. One of the best in the attitude era then she gets betrayed, played and I feel like they humiliated her. She will be missed. Legend always in my book. Hands down.
They waited for her to pass on purpose which is so messed up. They couldn't get over her corn history and the possibility of her doing something like that again.
I've actually never heard of her until now, but this woman was way ahead of her time, absolutely iconic! I'm sorry to hear she got done so dirty by the industry, I hope she is at peace now.
Chyna was awesome! It didn't matter if she was hot or not, masculine or feminine, she came on screen, knew how to wrestle, and had the charisma. We're never gonna get another wrestler like Chyna ever again...... may she rest peacefully
Chyna was always beautiful to me. And when she reconstructed her jaw she looked even more gorgeous. I can see why a woman would want to look more feminine. She was perfect just the way she was. I lost respect for Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. I've never liked either one of them. RIP Chyna. You were a hero to me when I was growing up.
Sucks to see when people get done dirty man, hope she rests easy. This era was a big part of my childhood. Thanks for all the memories and crushing it out there
I met both triple H, and Chyna many years ago. When i was 18 I worked at the airport in Pittsburgh. I asked for a Autograph from Triple H. He wanted nothing to do with me. But Chyna at least did give me one. I don't have it anymore but I do have that memory. Met a few wrestlers when I worked there.
It’s a shame that a beautiful angle with a caring soul like Chyna died miserable and alone with nothing to her name, whereas a heartless bastard like triple h gets it all.
Absolute tragedy, Chyna was my favorite female wrestler. Such a powerful and beautiful wrestler who ran through the competition. By all accounts, an absolute sweetheart outside of the ring. Almost brings me to tears what happened to her.
I was infuriated to hear that not only the WWF attitude stars didn't attend to Chyna's funeral but X Pac Melina and RVD attend this breaks my heart Chyna inspire a lot of women like me to can be strong courageous beautiful fierce WWF 's wonder woman A Amazon such a badass RIP
It wasn't so much a funeral as it was a last money maker for her former manager to make money off of her. There is a reason her close friends and family weren't there. That guy was a total scam artist.
@@ladybearbaiter People replying to you are salty AF, ignore them. The answer to your Q is yes, she is a female aka biological woman. She was on T and other drugs hence the masculine appearances.
Its sad because if she was born 25 years later and only just came to the WWE, she would be getting a complete different reaction than what she got in the 90s. She was questioned openly by interviewers about her physique not being feminime. People saying she was a freak or manly. What Larry king said there wasn't a question it was loaded to belittle her no matter what her reply was. But when you compare her to every other WWE diva there's ever been she's the most impressive and in my eyes beautiful. Nowadays theres many attractive females online who make a lot of money and have a lot of admirers for having the same look that chyna pioneered. Just goes to show how thickle and shallow society is. And how quickly and drastically a certain point of view can completely change. Ultimately she was kept down and condemned by 2 groups of people. Firstly men who felt intimidated by her. Manily weak men who prefer to be able to physically impose themselves on women. They couldn't do that with chyna. and secondly would be women who were jealous of that same fact. Jealous that men couldn't push her around. So instead of praising her for this strength, they would be little her saying she wasnt feminine.
To be fair Chyna was always deep in her feelings where no matter who she dealt with there was no succeeding with her. Like she was more of a goth chick where you can say she won a billion dollars and she'll find a way to blame someone for that. Even Billy Gunn said that Chyna had the presence of someone who looked fun to be around but then will go 180 on you.
Chyna was too good for the wrestling business. She was too nice for it. Sadly, like many other people, we just knew Chyna was never gonna get it together after leaving WWE. I just knew it was all going to end this way for her.
I did to ,I know her Step brother, and I tried to talk to her when she was in Japan, but she was still DEPRESSED over Paul, I'm from Rochester,NY and she was very important to Our City, even though she was from Our Suburbs, she was Our claim, R.I.P, Joanie 😪💔🙏
@@imustgoshopping6189 I know she has her Parents lived on Mt. Hope , Not very far from Nick Tahoe's 👍💯, PS glad you know about Garbage Plates they are awesome 😉
Overdosed and died with a broken heart…all alone in her home. My heart breaks for this woman. She didn't deserve such a troubled life after seemingly being on top of the world at the peak of her career. Hope she is at peace and finally found her paradise.
Loneliness is an awful thing. The world has too much cruelty in it. To the hundreds of millions that are self medicating, I wish you all the peace and love in the world.❤
I actually met Chyna back in a convention sometime in 2015 I believe it was around the time after she got back from Japan and she seemed like she was turning her life around she seemed pretty happy about helping people and other stuff I wonder what happened....I mean she looked well but she's been fighting personal demons for very long time. Although none of us knew her personally so it's hard to say for sure. It's so sad the way it all turned out. RIP
The thing about addiction is that the time period where the individual is doing well (as you mentioned she was) can actually end up being the most dangerous time because a large percentage of drug overdoses occur when addicts are clean and have been doing well for a while and then suddenly relapse after that long period of not using. When they relapse, they take the same amount that they always did in the past which previously was not all that much, but because they've been clean for a while, their tolerance to the drug drops dramatically, so the same amount that used to do be a normal dose ends up killing them.
Why doesn't anyone mention the passing of her father? I got to talk with her the week before she passed away, the day her dad passed away. She was so sad man. All this time I've been thinking that was the final straw for her. I was worried she'd kill herself when she told us her dad passed away.
@@Liverpool5095 I dont think it's that simple althought you do have a point but most of the time it's the CHARACTER that drives the addiction and not the addiction itself. So if a person ''relapses'' then it's likely because they never intended to stop using and considering Chyna's overall character, I could see her pride being the main focal point in her addiction until there was no point of return.
Chyna was the female phenom. Hasn't been any woman like her since. Incredible athlete, and bad ass woman. A true icon. I feel sadness for her. They treated her poorly. Shes all woman baby.
As a little girl watching wrestling, I LOVED Chyna! She was so gorgeous and I think they were just afraid of her being her unapologetic self, but it definitely weighed on her
Chyna was amazing, she deserved much more, both in life and career. She deserved to be treated better by the persons she trusted. I hopre Dark Side of The Ring could do an episode on her or You huys from Vice could do an even longer documentary about her story in order to show everyone who she was and what she had to go through. Thanks Vice for this video!
Chyna was so impressive that she truly transcended the boundary between 'male' wrestler and 'female' wrestler and for a great part of her career she was just Chyna, a wrestler. After her surgeries she was genuinely much more attractive and they pushed her into the women's division where she squashed everyone. This, with the end of her relationship to HHH, and the drama/beef that materialized around that (with Stephanie too), signified the end for Chyna as a character and a wrestling product.
She was an amazing entertainer and a true human being. Unfortunate what happened to her, heartbreaking she was betrayed and lost her livelihood because of an affair. Stephanie McMahon is a disgusting person and I don’t know how she can live with what she’s partially responsible for. It would haunt me forever. Rest in Peace Joanie, you’re sorely missed. ❤
@@SnowWhite717_ then she was not betrayed . She just made out difficult to work with her Jericho was annoyed by her Triple h wanted to be with her but she didn't want kids so he broke up with her Her own sister admitted it
@@chriskay1449bro why are you defending hhh and Stephanie on every single comment? No one agrees with you. Either your a WWE mark or related to the McMahons and your just ignorant
People make out as if she was mad or greedy for that but she did have a very good argument for it and more importantly, was a draw (her issue of Playboy outsold Sable). Even Mick Foley has said this. Chyna was as well known as Stone Cold, The Rock, etc. Not only that but if WWF paid her that, they would have to utilize her to get a ROI. They couldn't dump her in the lackluster women's division at the time. I think that was more important to her than the money, she wanted to be wrestling the guys and at the very least be on the male midcard in the US/IC title scene.
Hhh always gave me an opportunist vibe . I feel he did whatever it took to be on top .. even it means marrying the bosses daughter carrying the hottest wrestlers bags or brown nosing the boss 🤷♂️…
They basically threw Chyna underneath the bus, I personally think it is all crap that after she passed away, then they inducted her with DX reunions on Raw Smackdown anniversary
Chyna was just as monumental for wrestling as The Rock, Stone Cold…the Hulk Hogan’s & such! Chyna quite literally owned the room! she was not only a women’s champ but an iconic champion like figure in general. It’s easy to be a fan of the men who built the industry but there’s never been nor will there ever be another female wrestler of her caliber. She made it easy to be a fan and not for the “puppies” or generalized sex appeal. She was a marvel! & one of my favorite wrestlers of all time.
She would have been fine of if her ego didn't take over. She wanted to wrestle men and make as much as Stone Cold. This makes complete sense. Vince McMahon laughed at her. WWE didn't need her. But now in 2023.... POOR CHINA..... OH POOR BABY. BULLSHIT.
At the end of the day, we are responsible for our own destructive decisions. I do believe that HHH & Stephanie situation dealt her a fatal blow that she could never quite recover from though. It’s unfortunate, I loved seeing her growing up. As a kid she seemed larger than life. It’s crazy that someone who seemed so powerful and strong could be irreparably undone by a bad breakup.
Chyna was awsome...she was NEVER BORING WHEN on the scene...Any promo any DX PROMO when Shawn or HHH are cutting a LONG PROMO IN THE RING they all fed off each other R.I.P Chyna
If you are a old school WWF/WWE fan there is no way in the world you wouldn't know who Chyna was and what she meant to the attitude era and the company. I tuned in every Monday night to watch the rattle snake, Chyna, the rock, HHH, the hardy boyz, the dudly boyz, the undertaker, kane, booker T and the list goes on. It sucks to see such great talent let go because a little love scandal.
I can't believe nobody think to call out Howard Stern for being sexist. She looks more feminine? I mean.... someone who looks like he hasnt bath for years should not have the right to comment on other people look
That’s always how you can tell whether it’s a work or real when someone leaves a wrestling company. In a work, the announcers and talent will badmouth them/talk about them during a show. When it’s real, they’re erased, like they were never there at all.
I really feel for her… I been watching wrestling since a young girl and when I first seen Chyna..my mind was blown…at first I wasn’t sure if I like her or not but she grew on me and she did amazing stuff in the ring… it’s just sad when you hear the other side that we don’t see on camera then really gets you…they did her dirty and they basically kept her out of the Hall Of Fame is a shame…she did so much that she deserves her own spot.
I think when we take a step back and remember that WWE is an entertainment company, and not a competitive sports league, we realize, just like in Hollywood, you're on top of the world one minute and yesterday's news the next. When the company doesn't think you're bringing in the money anymore, or in Chyna's case, the jilted ex-girlfriend of the star now dating the boss's daughter, one wink or nod from the boss and you're erased. Sure she was a legend, but with anything in entertainment, you get fired and the next big thing is just around the corner. The whole thing of whether or not she should've been inducted into the WWE HOF long ago, come on! That HOF is just more entertainment. It's not like being inducted into Canton. From the interpersonal, relational, and moral standpoint, like Vince Russo said on his podcast the day after she died, all she wanted was closure from HHH and Stephanie, but of course they weren't going to give it to her. It hurts their bottom line, their reputation, all of that. As a die hard fan growing up in the Hulkamania days in elementary school and later again in college during the Attitude Era, I see now it's just one big circus that hyped us up, but it took a toll on the performers in terms of physical health, mental health, and life in general. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.
I remember seeing a newspaper article about Chyna and how inspiring and great she was for breaking the glass ceiling in a male dominated world. This was in our local newspaper in Trinidad and Tobago. My country is dot on the world map but Chyna was such mega star that she transcended wrestling into pop culture and was beloved around the world not just the USA.
There is nothing wrong with being 5'9,chistled,and muscular like Chyna. There is also nothing wrong with being 4'11,and fit like Terri Runnels. Chyna's entire message was that women can be whomever they are,and be beautiful.
Chyna was amazing. She was the original muscle mama. Like I think I attained my love for muscular women because of her seeing her when I was young. Really sad how she went
She had lots of mental issues. Xpac and Triple H both said that she was physically abusive during their relationships. She would regularly beat Xpac in front of his kids and even got arrested for it once.
The truth is, you can only look like her if you take performance enhancing drugs. She wasn't like that before. It's the drugs she used that made her look masculine. See the change of her voice? I'm so sad she wasn't able to get a happy ending. I pray for this sweet woman's soul. I hope in the next life she will become happy. God bless your soul Ms. Chyna. I was a fan of yours since I was a 9 yr old kid. Now I'm on my 30's, you are a legacy to us.
Chyna is an absolute legend and what happened to her was tragic. However, this whole narrative that HHH ruined her and the WWE betrayed her is not the full truth. What this documentary didn't cover was the fact that many male wrestlers complained about her lackluster wrestling abilities. She had the size and build to take on the men but still lagged in strength and skill to go toe to toe with the best. So she wasn't the best ring partner. But she was also too big for the women's division. HHH also treated Chyna with absolute respect and was a loving partner. He just fell out of love with her and should have been more honest with her sooner. I understand she was heartbrken. But trying to blame HHH for ruining her career is not the truth.
While it wasn't Triple H fault that she went down a destructive path of addiction he broke Chyna's heart by sleeping with the bosses daughter which showed how low he was willing to go to climb that corporate ladder. It's one of many examples on what kind of a snake he really is and how he'll screw anyone over to get ahead.
And despite all of that karma he still held it together and moved on. Do I agree with what he did? No. Is that the main reason to hate him as a person? Yes. Was Chyna in the right for what she did afterwards? No but people still cope in different ways. Overall,I’m neutral on this whole thing.
What karma? he becamse a top star in the company, made millions, and now owns a piece of a global, multi billion dollar company and runs the entire show. Tell me how he got karma again? LOLOLOL
Not only did she have to put up with being badly mistreated by getting into a personal relationship with HHH, various from WWE etc. but she also had to deal with a step mother and several stepfathers, a car crash on her way to work as a flight attendant, and a whole load of other stuff. RIP Joanie and thanks for the entertainment.
Chyna stood her ground with all the top folks like Austin, Undertaker, The Rock, Mankind, DX and whoever. There was a fit for her within that whole universe. How she is remembered and was treated is very distasteful considering how valuable and larger than life she seemed at the peak of her time there.
