The WWF started improving dramatically by Royal Rumble 1996. With the introduction of Goldust; HHH; and Steve Austin. And the removal of some goofyness. It was finally starting to find its feet again. (Also Razor and Deisel's promos were gold by this point.)
@@Walboro Come to think of it... I have heard Geno and Kevin both call it Bret's Rope, as well as Chris. Only Rocky hasn't. Or at least I haven't heard him.
Look OSW, you don’t know what it’s like - I’m the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And I’m not out of order! You’re out of order! The whole freakin’ system is out of order! You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can’t HANDLE the truth! ‘Cause when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo that was your best friend’s face, you’ll know what to do! Forget it, OSW, it’s Chinatown!
Would you guys ever do a tandem livestream with WorldClassBullshitters? They're huge wrestling marks and I think you guys would have a lot of fun talking shop
So it's three years after Shawn went solo and he's STILL trying to get "I don't think so" over (during the pre-show). Amazing perserverence that will never pay off.
As a part of WWF, Todd was, for the most part, fine. Those of us who remember the almost 30 years of horrendous radio he created are probably tainted by that.
I'd take him in a heartbeat over Michal Cole. We had 70% Todd for NXT In Your House and that was way better. One of the few highlights of the mid 90's slump.
‘Wrestling should be fun, it shouldnt feel like you’re pressured into buying something’ *OOC experience Vietnam-like flashbacks with Virgil and a tenner
@@joshntn37111Started what? Defending their land and freedom? They very thing you Yank cunts place so great an import upon. Now your racist country is eating itself and the world is laughing.
🐴 CONTROVERSIAL BOY STABLE UPDATE: Our tattoo brah Marc mailed me saying we caught on to his trolling 😂 So the boy stable was all for a laugh. He also threatened to get a second tattoo for his real stable, and i said I'd have to ask V1 about THE RULES 😆 Can one person get more tattoos for more boy stable reviews?! Check out his full Jerry Lawler sucking-toes cameo vid here at the Dirty Game Room: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qyi0PwMLXGs.html 👑🦶
27:00 That's actually pretty clever that they just said: "Sega" due to the whole Genesis and Mega Drive shebang. You can easily market the tape to UK and US without double takes. Did not expect this sort of foresight from WWE XD
35:00 Hey didya pop for the NEW LEGACY INC splicey? 😆 Worlds colliding! It's from their Battlegrounds glitches vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q4rsJ6glLjU.html
Just for those who don't speak Currywurst: the German commentator (Günther Zapf) jokingly said to Todd that all the ladies are after him (Todd). Btw. Female Renegade is Kyoko Inoue, one of the top stars of AJW of the 90s. That's why she was put over so strong against Bull.
Oh cool- glad you guys caught the Bull/Kyoko match- it's a really good performance. It very much fits the "AJW style", which is a "GO GO GO" style more based around said short sequences with quick reversals. It's very "Comeback"-based, with no long sequences, which explains the style clash for western audiences. The reason the three girls are crying in the end is because they're the sole active wrestlers from Bull's "Gokumon-To" stable- this is sort of like their "Curtain Call", saying goodbye.
Honestly I think this is the Bull Nakano Arc for me now. Shes so good and she looks fucking awesome. I wish she had more and better opponents to work with in America like there are now. Shes honestly now one of my favorite wrestlers and I never would've even known about her if not for OSW
If you look for some AJW (All Japan Women's Wrestling) with her through the 80's and 90's, you'll find TONS of amazing matches with her and some top tier talent. You don't really need to speak Japanese to appreciate the wrestling, and if you like Bull's stuff, there's even more great wrestling down that rabbit hole.
It looks like he actually quit the WWF as he was also still working as a disc jockey, and it was quite difficult trying to balance the two. I'd imagine that there was a bit of travel involved with the WWF, and given the downward slide of the company in that era it probably felt like a safer decision to go back to being a disc jockey.
He quit. Before he quit, he personally chose Michael Cole as his replacement. Make of that what you will (I imagine Cole is cursing Todd for that to this day lmao)
i actually watched that strategies and secrets vhs back in the day, rented it and the game from blockbuster. Prolly the best weekend of my life so far.
The Sega thing was probably due to the Genesis / Megadrive dual naming thing, although it could be because two Sega consoles had RAW. The 32X had an improved version. What was the improvement you ask? Why, the greatest secret character of all time... Kwang!
I've been watching so much Joshi from the 90s lately and Kyoko is becoming one of my favorites. Mostly because she's fucking great in the ring, but also because she looks like she's having so much fun all the time. Just makes these little expressions sometimes where you can tell she's having an absolute blast doing what she loves. And considering she's still wrestling today, that must be the case
Talking of quick pins in WWE RAW, I can remember being Diesel against Doink and pinning the clown after whipping him into the ropes and catching him with a big boot on the rebound. Only move of the match... and no matter how many times I played it afterwards, I could never repeat it.
Fine job as always lads; I reckon the lady cop talking to Nick Turturro at 1:04:38 is Patricia Tallman, who was a stunt artist and SF actor who played Lyta Alexander on Babylon 5.
I used to absolutely adore "in-universe" VHSes like that videogame guide, so I definitely feel you on not just knee-jerk hating it. Honestly, I'm surprised everyone was into it as they were rather than just phoning it in.
I was just watching the start of this arc (Survivor Series 92) and they were so happy and excited to be reviewing New Gen stuff. Fast forward to Wrestlemania XI and these boys are so DONE with this shit, it's hilarious, the New Gen broke them I think 😂😆.Merry Christmas lads, I look forward to WMXI and the best Christmas gift of all- that you can finally start a new arc!
Bull, Kyoko & Tomoko Watanabe there were in the same stable (Gokumo-to), which slowly split apart. So this is more or less their "last hurrah" in the ring. Basically the DX Curtain Call, but without shattering kayfabe.
@@crappyposts3477 Does the wanking saw have any relation to the wanking claw? Perhaps the wanking saw is what Kurt Angle used to make his wanking claw.
It's shocking how much people seemed to love Todd, but he was/is one of the biggest hacks in New York radio history. On top of that he sandbagged Scott Shannon (the guy who gave him his break in drive time New York radio) and forced him out of his own show. When he finally got his own show, it failed miserably and according to (some) of his staff, he was a nightmare to work with. He would have them get to the station at 4 am and would keep them there until almost 5 pm. Keep in mind, he played 40+ minute of music /hr on a 4 hour radio show.
Excellent video, I'm more than sufficiently pumped to see the Mania review now. If Todd Petengill doesn't qualify for the OSW HOF, he's a top boy contender at the very least. Man's been an absolute workhorse of the new gen arc.
@@DasKame you're right, I think there is room for Mortis in my boys stable :) And idk how this is for the rules of a boy stable, but Mortis and Glacier were feuding. I'll have to consult Jay and the lads about that one.
the reason why the guys are saying sega and not sega genesis might be for this reason: game was released in both north america and europe. in both parts, super nintendo is super nintendo. but europe calls genesis mega drive. probably didn't want to have them reshoot and/or dub over genesis with mega drive (but no idea if the tape ever got a euro release, but doing it that way allowed for an easier conversion if it ever did).
Re-watching now, It's noticeable how much spending time in the New Gen drained everyone. Ending the Lex Express arc everyone sounded upbeat & hopeful about continuing...by the '95 Rumble (OSW 95) that Hope was G-G-O-O-N-N-E-E
The very-young, kayfabe-believing child in me would probably have loved a sketch-show featuring in-character wrestlers. It very much feels like a show at home beside Legends of the Hidden Temple and All That. Come to think of it, it probably was around this time there was a huge boom in kids television and Vince was probably trying his hand with that bandwagon. Adult me can only wtf.
Bret's 2005 is really due for a major upgrade; This match here against Owen, along with other lesser known matches like the first Bob Backlund match, *1995 matches against Jeff Jarrett and Jean Pierre Lafitte, *rarely seen cage matches against Yokuzuna and Shawn, *vintage tag matches against Strike Force, Brain Busters and The Russians, and the entire *1997 run against Vader, Mankind, Patriot, Rock, and Ken Shamrock. 14 matches in a perfect three hour compilation DVD.
This OSW Review premiered during The Great Convergence. Jupiter & Saturn actually aligned when this video aired. *_Coincidence?_* I think not Twas written in the stars, Warrior would be proud. Keep up the good work lads, your efforts are not going unappreciated.
Hey guys, another amazing episode! Some of the best wrestling with some of the worst - a good mixed bag. Have a great New Years Eve, looking forward to 2021
Absolutely. I grew up during this era and even as a kid I knew there was something special whenever Bull and Blayze tore it up. Unfortunately, this was still an era where women's wrestling wasn't taken seriously in the States, and it probably didn't help matters that Bull and Blayze were really the only major players in the 'women's division', such as it were, at the time. That being said, those two probably had the most enormous impact on mainstream women's wrestling since the days of Mae Young, Wendi Richter, The Fabulous Moolah, etc., and I can pretty much guarantee that they inspired generations of women wrestlers, probably even more than the legends who came before them, paving the way for what it is today.
Back when not every single thing on the show was nWo related yet, so you weren't getting sick of them yet. It was more important when the music started.
Early NWO arc could be fun. As there was still plenty of left-over carny nonsense. (Seriously, if the NWO had not happened when it did, WCW were in deep shit creatively) Plus there's the whole fact that the NWO really has aged poorly overall and is nowhere near as cool now as they were back then... >__>
I am so thankful you lads review the joshi wrestling going on in the background of new gen. Kinda sad you are not enjoying Alundra, but I am happy you are loving Bull Nakano. I was fearful that Joshi was going to be limited to just what happened on screen, but Jay went above and beyond to cover the women's division in the world.
That episode of RAW where Nakano faced Alundra was not taped weeks in advance, it took place at the Poughkeepsie, NY tv tapings the night after WM XI, same episode where Sid turned on Shawn. They did tape two episodes for April 10th and 17th after that.
I actually bought the RAW VHS tape as a kid. It was literally the coolest thing and I watched it so many times. But I actually did take some of the weapon and rumble advice. Man that brought me back. I still have the tape lol and game. You need some random vhs tapes from the early 90s hit me up. I have boxes upon boxes of vhs tape tv recordings. Really hope I recorded some ByteThis or LiveWire stuff. Loved that stuff
