This film is unpublished footage taken from a 16 mm reel of Exeter, England around the end of the war and was filmed by an official U.S. Navy photographer. The submarine in the middle of the video is a captured German sub according to the film's label. At the end, there are some shots of destruction from the Exeter Blitz about two years after it happened.

Seen this before several times,it is the camp at countess wear ExEter built by Americans at ExEter Golf Club weir field House then called, the train was the ExEter to Exmouth railway line, views of Cathedral close, another of Theater Royal Longbrook Street now demolished and part view of Sidwell street church bombed in war I think 1942 the Blitz, the camp all gone now a housing Estate but Golf club still going 2023 year, The submarines might be at Plymouth but also could be Exmouth Docks not sure, Good film tough times, R.Stoneman ExEter U.K.👍

Wonderful to see this colour footage. How little the Cathedral Close/yard area has changed, aside from the loss of the Royal Clarence.

Are there any surviving clips of the US Navy base at Dunkeswell Naval Airbase. It was the only US Navy airbase in WW2

I'm actually not sure. The film reels weren't labeled, so I'm hoping some English people can identify places.

Interesting film of St Sidwell's Church. It really was destroyed.
