This is good and I have to point out a detail that I don’t see mentioned often. When you guys fire your rifles, you’re actually firing the rifle like a professional marksman and letting the rifle do it’s job with dignity. No trigger slapping. No getting so excited to work the action that you forget all about the target. There’s good follow through on the trigger, there’s good proper bench resting, there’s a spotter involved, and there’s no blasting the bolt stop racking the bolt back. To me that’s how you know you’re watching someone who actually has business demonstrating. Thank you.

Thank you very much for the kind words and the compliment on the shooting. We take pride in our videos and want to put out the highest quality product we can in an easy to digest manner with good honest information just like we do with our magazines. I will say how I shoot a rifle can change depending upon the action and how smooth it is and how it feels but overall we want to showcase what the rifle is capable of. Thank you again for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

My '43 BNZ marked K98K is one of my favorite rifles from that time period next to my GI bring back type 99.

The K98K is a great rifle for sure and the Type 99 is also an underrated rifle as well, very strong and robust actions on those guys and a simple design. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

I really like my standard K98k, but I’ve given up shooting full power 196 grain loads. 175-180 grain cast bullets at 1700-2000 fps are much more enjoyable through that short, steel-capped stock.

Always a pleasure listening to ol’ Duke! Love to meet him sometime. Is he like Elmer Keith who entertains visitors?

Indeed he is a great guy and a lot of fun and quite humble as well. I don't think he entertains visitors but I now from time to time he can be found at shooting matches and gun shows. Thanks for watching and for the feedback we appreciate it! --Jeremiah

I think you would have done better with the German K98 if the stock had a higher comb so you can get a better spot weld to the stock. Plus German # 1 Reticiles take a bit to get used to. I should know, I had Leupold install a German # 1 in a 6 x 42 Leupold scope that sits on my old much loved Steyer Mannlicher M professional that I bought in 1976. I am also surprised that the triggers were not worked over for good precision shooting. Since Holland and Holland did most of British Enfields for sniper work, I am surprised they didn't take care of that detail. Unless the government ordered them not to in the specifications. The optics of the period were not that good, the Germans had the best optics and they still do to this day along with the Japanese, since a lot of that tech was transferred to their Japanese allies. I would have to say the best sniper rifle of the period belonged to a Nation that was neutral in WW-II thou you could argue that Sweden with the 1894 Swedish Mausers and the 6.5 x 55 cartridge. 4 or 6 power German Scopes I believe. I think the Finns used them, I do know they go for a lot of money if you can find one for sale. I sometimes can't help myself, I have been a far-gone gun guy ever since my father gave me a Marlin 22 Bolt action 22LR and a Mosin Nagant 1891 made in 1938 at Tula Arsenal, Tula, Russia, Soviet Union. I still have that rifle, I was 8. I am 68 now. Since I don't have children, never married. I gave the 22 to a good friend's 8-year-old son on his birthday and two bricks of 22's. Like me, he learned to shoot with that rifle and I am sure that when he has an 8-year-old son he will do the same. Oh, and I still lust for a John Rigby 275 Rigby HV with the green case and all the bells and whistles, they would be happy to make me one, it will just cost the price of a 2023 Toyota Tundra 1794 pickup truck with tax and registration.

You are probably correct, I also think if we would have had more time I could have done better as well those were literally the first shots I have ever fired in a K98K. Sadly we were on a bit of a time crunch to get all the filming in hence the conclusion being so repetitive for these videos in this series. Hopefully one day i'll be able to revisit these rifles and perhaps even run a full load development on some of them. It is very interesting the whole history behind these sniper rifles and their programs and field use and doctrine. I would highly encourage you to check out Mike's book I think you would greatly enjoy reading it. That is a great story about the kid, It is always nice to hear others passing on the passion and joy of firearms. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

LOL! Nice catch!
@HandloaderTV

After the first shot we attempted to adjust the scope but sadly the adjustments did not take and several more rounds had to be fired to get the rifle back on target. Adjusting these old scopes is not always the most reliable when it comes to tracking. Rather than showcase our struggles for time sake we just edited it out once we got the rifle back on target. Good catch for sure and thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

They certainly are good rifles, I wish I had a little more time to do this one justice but we were on a time crunch filming this series. At any rate thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah
