Johhny died on 12th of september 2003, on my 19th birthday. This special was broadcast on Croatian tv few days after recording. I got so drunk in my home watching, my parents went to bed and leave me be, after I explained why he wore black and said to them: "This whole thing is for a poet, a legend, a man in black. And I'm just a poet."
22321---first 4 me ---man u are good-----im 64 today and known that song sine 1969 more of less in the 5th or 6 th grade------few people can fly with his material----you did
Absolutely legendary. People super quiet in the beginning wondering what was going on and at some point in time realized they were witnessing something incredible… and went nuts
Not a cover. This song is old, traditional. It doesn't belong to anyone. It's for anyone to sing. And Wyclef Jean sure does sing it his way. Not a cover. His interpretation. And it's deep. It's original, yet true to the roots.
Give it up for Wyclef Jean. He made this song his. So many others who sang this song, like Johnny Cash, for instance, made this song theirs too. Wyclef Jean put a whole new spin on this song, and it's a whole nother thing, and it's fine.
And to think this song all started because of a 14-year-old boy who killed a 14-year-old girl December 24th 1900 all because she didn't reciprocate his feelings sad State of affairs that is at least there's a good song out of it.
WAY better? How about just different? They are both outstanding and Wyclef did a great job putting his own signature on it without disrespecting JC's version.
Got to call that an Epic FAIL!!! That cat should stick to rapping. He started out good, but screwed the lyrics up. So I ask you, how can it be a tribute song when you change the original lyrics?
Not really. There are several different versions of the song. If your going to make an argument or debate something do your research first. Wyclef was doing a supposed "Tribute", and instead did a "Remake" as he didn't stay true to Johnny Cash's version.
taintedtannis I bet you're fun at parties.😒😒🔫👍👍 Lighten up. It was a great creative take, whatever kind of song. Try to enjoy something. Great job Wyclef. Still love this version.
