Clark Terry was just not a gifted man but also a wonderful and warm person. His music reflected a disciplined and organised person . Even if he was playing with Davey Bailey there was something very special with his solo on "Sandu" a Clifford Brown composition. It is unfortunate that his album with Ernie Wilkins is out of print. On this one, he plays with International Jazz Orchestra with artists across the world but the music reflected a common knowledge and understanding of jazz more particular on "Broadway Joe" This is a composition writting and arranged by Ernie Wilkins. Maybe one day will be lucky to hear it from one of the public channels.

Clark didn't just influence brass players. As a sax player I shared the stage with Clark Terry in Montreaux with my college band. The musical lessons I got from him still resonate with me now. He was not only one of the finest musicians in the world, but he was also a truly wonderful man.

IMHO Clark Terry was one the greatest brass players ever to put a mouthpiece to his lips. Perfect embouchure, gorgeous tone, range, flexibility, soulful improvisation, humor ... Clark lacked nothing in his playing.

He came to my college in the late '70s a few times to give concerts and clinics. Got to see him a few times after that at other colleges and festivals during my career. Everything that everyone on this blog is saying is true. Fantastic trumpet player, fantastic musician, and human being. We're all lucky to have had him in our lives. With respect, PMH

I met Clark in college (1972) and got to sit in a few times with his band. What a wonderful person. Funny, sincere, loved music and he taught me how to circular breathe during a rehearsal. He also taught me about the hole in the plunger mute. Loved that guy and wished I'd spent more time with him. Last time I saw him play was at The Vanguard and even though he was pretty blind he recognized my voice. Damn I miss that guy.

Just as a jazz enthusiast I net Clarke Terry a few times , he always remembered me . He was a very beautiful person.

Clark Terry came to my college, SUNY Potsdam, to perform with our Jazz Ensemble around 1970. He taught me how to circular breath. Great player and person. I remember sitting behind him at the performance and watching the spotlight bring out the water vapor from his bell like little diamonds of sound.
