I had an interaction with the law.... We are headed to the grand canyon and beyond. Website: www.thejax.tv Weekly podcast @steadyatthewheel Instagram: @shumunush
Those Taylor fork lifts are awesome. And Jax, us viewers love you brother. And sometimes you need to focus on you and your health before us. So if you can’t get videos it’s ok. Take care of you first brother. Be safe and thank you for bringing us along even as exhausted as you are.
I drove coast to coast for 19 years and never ran into anything like that, which is a good thing because I'm like that Ron White skit, I have the right to keep my mouth shut, but I didn't have the ability
That was a great example of how a great day can go not so great real quick. In 26yrs of paper logs I’ve never wrote the vin, or barely filled out the pretrip side so I was right with ya in the explanation of your interaction with the officer.
We appreciate all the hard work that goes into your videos. I know exactly how you feel being exhausted. Working 7 days a week 10 hour days from now until at least next Christmas. Worst part is I have so much catching up to do with your videos
Those trucks pretty common here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Those Forklift/crane are awesome, I use them alot to load my trailer with shipping containers. What I don't like about polystyrene blocks I've found is you have to keep pulling down on the straps due to the polystyrene compressing during the trip...lol
In the UK we have Tachographs fitted that record all the trucks movements, at start of shift each driver has there own card with all there details which you insert. You have to show 15 mins of other work before you start your drive so they know you have checked the truck/trailer, then most change to drive as you move the truck. You have a chair mode to show breaks and all speed and mileage is recorded on your card and the chip in the Tacho. It also shows any movement when a card is not inserted which you have to have a reason for. Every 28 days you download the truck and every week the driver card it shows any speed over 60 mph and the trucks have a limiter fitted at 56 mph. You can get fined if you go over 60mph if they are picky also if you go over your drive or work time, and for not taking enough breaks or daily rest. The only job you can do where you could end up in court if you don't keep your speed and records clear.
Sounds like Wyoming! I've had the same riga-ma-row happen to me... VIN in a logbook? What about the guys like us that are in and out of 6 different trucks every week on the farm/ranch/road? Guess we run one for each truck :) haha
Back in 1990 I got pulled over in my lowboy hauling a excavator out of Seattle, cop asked for my license and all I had was a learner cdl I was supposed to have a cdl driver with me but the cop says is this legal and I said would I be hauling a excavator on the freeway if it wasn't, he says OK drive safe. I was dumbfounded, he didn't now the law, lol😅😅 so I know what you're talking about 😅😅
That is one reason I got out of trucking for good. Tired of DOT officers reaming you over nothing and taking your hard earned money for the state or government that sometimes your even working for; hauling their stuff. But one thing I learned was to be smarter then them and I know what they should know even when they don't so I can use their own laws against them. Come on Jacks there is no such thing as an arrow dynamic CABOVER PERIOD~!~ Ever~!~
Love the beginning in fast forward, reminds me of a Canadian trucker in Vancouver that moves oil rig stuff Timelapse Trucker. It's y'all moving goods and actually- everything!!! Truckers are #1 💯
26 years in this business and I still can’t get a straight answer from on D. O. T. To the other lol I don’t know if they even know whats correct Guess we’ll just keep on trucking. Be safe keep the shinny side up brother
Aww 🥰 love the intro and the cliff hanger fade out at the end Rest easy and thank you for been humble and just being you ❤❤ 😂 doing the all nighter for golf 🤣 oh man …Love it 😊 safe travels till we meet up again on the tube
Just watched this with my husband. 1ST time I've watched you. LOVED You! Sounds like you had a heck of a time with dot! Just subscribed to your channel, can't wait to watch more.
Jax, as much as I love going trucking with you, you must put your health and well-being first! Haeli and the five need you more than we do, so if you’re too beat down to do a video we will understand and just look forward to seeing you when you’re more up to it! That Wyoming HPO is nuts! Not only did we never put our VIN# on our log books, I’ve never even heard of such a thing! I had 4 states on the top of my list for worst states to truck in and guess what, Wyoming was one of them! Anxiously awaiting news of #5! We get to learn the sex of my new upcoming, #4, great grandchild today. I have 3 great grandsons so hoping this one is a girl! Be well and stay safe young man! Godspeed. ❤️🙏
I tell ya Jackson,I've been trucking for close to thirty years in a few different kinds of big rigs and I don't think I've ever seen more than 6 miles to the gallon. The truck I drive now is a 2021 Freightliner with a Detroit in it and she's getting 5.2 right now. I guess I'm a bit of a lead foot. Lol
I will never understand why golf takes precedence over working??. A phone call can change a tee time. That is very selfish. You should not have had to kill yourself so he could make his TEE TIME! No thanks. You are the best Jax! The world needs more men like you.
Hello from Miles City. One thing about you Jax is that you keep it 100%. Blue2 is very cool. When I had my truck and doing paper logs,I had to list pre-trip, mileage through each state, on duty not driving when fueling, and post trip, but never a vin number just truck number. There is a song and I think you may have sang a little of it lol, called "The Highway Patrol" perfect for this video. Anyways stay safe and continue keeping it real. PEACE.
The 9800 international and the Peterbilt 372 aka football helmet cabovers at the time was the most fuel efficient trucks at the era before they died off which is sad . But I love all your trucks
I've only ever used the UNIT# of my tractor/trailer. Fuel permit was never my issue because IFTA. 2016 Mack CH613 PINNACLE Lease tractor. Constantly got stopped in Fort Morgan, CO.
When I drove OTR for 5 yrs, I once went through a road construction area in your situation with the chicken coop in the zone with no cones / no signs for directions to get to it. There for they are technically closed. I ran on paper & never did put down the miles to fuel stop , just when you stopped to shutdown for your 10hr brk. ,9.4 for running empty is pretty darn good. Just imagine what you would get if you did a tune up, check your fuel pump pressure, check the turbo out to see if the bearings are getting play, how black the gains are on the exhaust side & so on.
Sounds like it was about as good of a stop as possible. Anytime you get away from a stop with just warnings is a good day. I don't truck, but they were doing a drug sting on I70 in Kansas and just passing through in our car with my little utility trailer made me nervous they would find something to get me on.
Love the cabover. Yup you have to play the game when the law has you on the side of the road . My brother seen one of his trucks stopped by the motor carrier officer so he stopped in his pickup to see what's up . The young officer got a little smart with him . By the time my brother got done teaching him about trucks and truck law all he wanted to do is get back in his Tahoe and leave . He reminded him that he works for the tax payers of our state and he wasn't going anywhere until my brother was done with him .😂
Liked the video a lot! Family friends had a farm just north of Bear Butte, Sold their cream in Newell. Song I think your band could kill would be (2) James McMurtry tunes, "Lights of Cheyenne" and "South Dakota"
I'm only 1min 30 seconds in and I feel like I'm watching the intro to an action movie! 😁👍 This is your gopro? Where did you mount it? OK, ten seconds later and I see your reflection! 😂 I really enjoy the cab view shots 😊
Sorry I missed this video when it first came out...my father passed away and this have been upside down for me. Love ya bud 👍✌️🙏🙏 I did get to see the past couple videos on the steady at the wheel podcast. Kinda bothers me to miss when you post. I'm a very loyal person.
I use to pull a 38 foot Frameless End Dump… Hauling hazardous waste out of Greybull, Wyoming… and they the Highway Patrol didn’t like us because in New Mexico There’s No law on safety protectors on the back axle of the trailer… and they said the law went into effect in 1953 and there the only state that honor’s it
The DOT told me if he caught Me hauling out there again without the Safety Bumpers on the Axel that he would lock Me up and tow My Company Truck… Bullshit I say
Take care of yourself brother. You are a great guy. Is this the third round of toilets we have watched you haul. Great job with the content but always put yourself and you family before our wants.
You had me dying laughing at the story with highway patrol. In my opinion I feel like all law enforcement needs to be properly trained on DOT. Otherwise, they should have to call in and get someone out there that knows the laws.
I always figure it’s better to play stupid then get someone’s pants in a bunch. With the vin I always put the truck number in there. Most the new guys have no idea now to even read a paper log
This video had me so frustrated lol not at you😂 I swear, I've met THAT trooper in WY. You are correct, dudes been around elogs TOOOOO long. If you have IFTA why do you need permits in WY?
I am dying here laughing about your encounter with Wyomings finest! Seems like in 37 years nothing has changed. Not Wyoming. Not the truck drivers. And not the I know, but I will keep my mouth shut so I can get out of here! LOL Yes, I wrote my seriel # on my log book. XXXXXXGL. Do you know how many times they told me that was an incomplete seriel number and I had to explain to them that the truck was a Glider, hence the GL? Rapid City POE decided I wasn't being truthful and actually walked out to the truck, climbed up on the step, so he could visually inspect the door jam for the seriel number. And there it was XXXXXXGL. As I was merging back on the interstate I wiped the sweat from my forehead. Ol boy didn't ask one question about where is the co-driver I was logging. Nor did he ask where the passenger seat was for the truck. If he had asked I would tell him the truth. It rattles too much so I took it out. Good times. Thanks for the memories!
Yeah ...clearly he wasn't up to speed on paper logs. All those "warnings" (like he's doing you a favor) hurts the CSA score (your insurance) just as bad as a ticket.
I have NEVER put a vin on those logs. I've put the truck number on it at most. meanwhile with elogs they just dont seem interested the second after it says how many hours remaining..
Just keep it safe. Videos can wait and so can we. I'll never give out about our Garda or rsa here in Ireland 🇮🇪 when I heard your story. What an ass . Just keep it safe and we'll catch you later
Wyoming is just so "special" with their illegal Ports of Entry. Remember the days when they gave a windshield sticker with a horse on it to show that they had seen your fuel permit. Also witnessed them requiring to be faxed to them all 36 pages of a Landstar lease to prove that your equipment was actually leased to Landstar. You are required to carry a copy of your lease agreement when operating as a leased owner-operator.
Oh yeah I know where you are talking about. I have been up here 12 years now and haven't been in there I have never had a load that delivered to the state of Wyoming when I went through there so I didn't need to go in.
That trooper would have a coronary here in Texas with all our insanely poor condition trucks and trailers on the road. We have a bunch of truckers who drive absolute wrecks and somehow stay on the road.
Yeah those forks might take a chunk of concrete off or the other way and have to much down pressure and tear your aluminum rub rail up! 20 years pulling flatbeds here. Always have to keep a eye on them fork lift drivers! LoL
I’d have had a hell of a time keeping my mouth shut when the cop mentioned the miles lol. Yes, the elog keeps track of them mile by mile but it’s plugged into the dang ECM lol. It’s not realistic to write down the miles on paper logs EVERY single time you stop. I’m surprised he didn’t try to tell you you’re supposed to sign your logs BEFORE you start moving in order to verify you’ve acknowledged the logs exist, or some made up garbage lol. I’ll say tho, those warnings are worse than citations. You receive the same points but can’t fight it. The dumbest FMCSA rule ever. Makes no sense.
You just need a truck identification in that box of your log. Usually a truck #, or can be license plate#, or as the officer said a vin. That officer must've been pretty new to the scene.
